Hey guys, I'm a long time gameex user but due to a move I had to put my media center PC in storage and pretty much fell off the map for about 3 years. Finally the day has come when I've been able to get my media center all set up again. Its been so long I feel like I have to relearn almost everything I already spent endless hours setting up. The nice thing is before I packed up the media center I was able to get it set up pretty complete for my standards with over 35+ console, handheld & arcade emulators all with complete ROM libraries. I even set up all the assets w/ video snaps, box art ect... With that said I am currently running XBMC version 13.0 and gameex version 1.0.0.0 I would not mind staying on this version as I already know everything is working great. But now I see Tom was awesome enough to make a xbmc plugin I also use xbmc and would love to use this plugin so I'm tempted to upgrade to a newer version of gameex like 13.26 so I can use the xbmc plugin but also don't want to risk something going wrong with the update or some of my emulators becoming incompatible as it's been years since my gameex has updated? Do you guys think I could have any issues upgrading or am I just being paranoid? Also if any of you guys are using xbmc with the gameex plugin and can let me know how it works I would really appreciate it? Good to have gameex up and running again! Thanks guys

Well first the easy question ... The GameEx plugin for XBMC is great. I've never had a problem with it. It's not terribly fancy being that it simply lets you launch GameEx directly from XBMC and then return to XBMC after exiting. It certainly fills a niche though and for that it's awesome.

So wow ... that's a pretty old version of GameEx you're running. I would highly recommend making the update, especially if you're in a position where you're relearning the configuration anyway. The trouble with running such an old version of GameEx is that there are very few people who would be effective in troubleshooting assistance should you encounter an issue. And for better or worse I'm guessing that not very many people can answer the question of how installing such a drastic update will effect your settings. Tom may be able to answer this more effectively, but yeah I would proceed with some degree of caution here. If it were possible to perform the upgrade in a test environment first that would likely be ideal.

Thanks for the reply guys. I knew it would be a risky upgrade being such a drastic change. I think I will hold off for a bit to see if Tom has any advise. If I do decide to eventually try to upgrade do you think creating a recovery point and doing a system restore back if there is a problem would work?

Recovery from a restore point is not the same as a backup and will not restore GameEx completely to the previous settings. I recommend a complete backup as there is no way we can provide you with an installation file that far back version-wise.

+1 to everything said so far. If it eases your mind at all, know that there are many experienced members here that are willing to share their wisdom to those in need of it. If you hit a snag, no matter how small or seemingly trivial just drop in and we'll be glad to help.

I would always advise to keep up to date with GameEx. Tom and crew are forever adding fresh and new features! Adultery alone has released a mind blowing set of plugins recently. Let alone the features to GE core since your last update! You really need to have the latest to experience it to its fullest :)

Also, you want to be geared up with knowledge when Evolution lands don't you? ;)

You guys are absolutely right I don't want to miss out on all the new features and the new Evolution I'm sure will be awesome. I have no doubts about getting help on these forums as you guys have been life savers on more than one occasion. So right now the game plan will be to clone both drive on the HTPC then use those drives to experiment with the upgraded and mess around with the new features. This way if things take a turn for the worst I can just revert back to the original drives.

Best advice/plan of action ever! :) And to anyone else who has a more recent version - do that then just update ;) Backing up is a good thing!
