[RESOLVED] mame game list vs emulator ( mame) game list

Hi all,

My Mame system I built 5 years ago died a horrible death ( converted Ultimate arcade2 machine).

Harddrive died so now im rebuilding with new PC from scratch and I forget everything I learned in the past.

My system is up and running ( thanks to tylenol and caffine ), but when I go under the main menu item MAME and go to all games it only shows 13. I tried update list but it didn't work.

I have about 140. I finally found them when I go under EMULATED GAMES ( since i enabled Mame as an emulator in setup ) and [arcade] Arcade ( Mame ), all my games show up.

How do I get all my rom games to show up under the main MAME menu item ? I wanted a cleaner easier look since I only use Gameex for mame arcade games ( and its easier for the kids ).

I had this set up correctly on my old system, but I can't seem to get it now.

I have checked through set options and gameex.inn, but I must be missing something.

The last option of the integrated MAME menu is Update List. Did you click on that? It will take some time to run.

In the Setup Wizard> MAME Settings> Advanced MAME Settings try these settings:

Allow Imperfect Games = Yes

Verify ROMS = No

Only Existing Roms = Yes

No Clones = I want Clones

Then launchGameEx go to Mame and click Update List. As Draco mentioned it may take some time.

Awesome ! worked like a charm.

My only frustration is that I must have tried that at least 5 times.

The only thing I had to change in my settings was the 'Only Existing Roms = Yes'

Plus, twice it froze on me when creating 'verify.dat' ( I think that was the file ).

While I have this thread open, now that my MAME list is complete, I assume I can change my settings so Emulated Games is not displayed in the menus ( for less options for the kids ).

That should be fine yes. Alternatively, if you want complete control on what is available in your menu's and thus boiling GameEx down to a kid friendly environment you may consider using Custom Menu's

Just a note / question.

When I went into gamex.ini and set :

[Emulator_1]

Enabled=False

The emulator option was removed from the menu as I wished, but all the games disappeared under the MAME menu.

I updated list and they came back.

All is well now, but any idea why they disappeared?
