Alright i dont know where to start with this

I have done 2 computers running gameex now and on occations the computer completly crashes

It seems to happen only when gameex is running and it usually happens when going down the list of games

I dont believe it happened before but my bright idea was with .NET 2.0 as its new

Both are running a clean install of XP SP2 completly patched up and only gameex is running

as i said most of the time it happens just scrolling down the list of games, crashes and when i reboot it says windows had a serious error

Im not pointing fingers or anything but has anyone had something similar, i can get a screen shot of the event viewer if you like

Thanks

Neil

hang on, thats it? i mean i have to backtrack the latest version of .NET because gameex has a problem with it

im a paying customer, and the best help i can get is uninstall the standard patch from microsoft? (when i say standard, i mean one that gets downloaded in windows update)

Hold on theres no need to get a tude, why not be patient to see if you get other suggestions, or simply ask for other suggestions, without all the I'm paid up bollocks. If you want a refund for GameEx Ill give it to you with pleasure, but be pleasant otherwise please. This person was taking time out of his day to help you, even if it was not what you wanted.

I think what the user was getting at was, see if uninstalling .net 2.0 and installing 1.1 helps. OK GameEx should work with 2.0, but if its not I need to know, and doing the suggestion is the way to find out. In addition I find it highly unlikely (but not impossible )that the GameEx code directly is causing this problem. It could be your drivers, codecs, or spyware etc, and no one else has reported this problem. Believe me people would shout very loudly on this forum if it was a big issue.

Comprende Amigo? ;)

Tom.

EDIT: I am not 100% sure on this, but I am fairly certain GameEx will not use .net framework 2.0 it will only use 1.1 or 1.0. Therefore if 1.1 is not installed it will run on 1.0 even if 2.0 is installed. Its a confusing situation that MS have created. .net framework 2.0 is not an update more of a completley new version. Its like comparing a windows service pack to a brand new version of windows.

Look at the GameEx log file to see which versions you have installed. Your'll also notice one does not upgrade and replace another, as Im saying above.

Just FYI:

I'm running on .net 2.0, and I have not noticed any issues that were not present on 1.1

I have never had a crash while scrolling through lists of games...

.NET 2.0 has a number of issues still. If you dont need it (which as a home user you almost certainly won't) then just uninstall it and stick with 1.1. Which works a treat.

.NET is supposed to be clever enough to select which version it needs to run the right application.... but it isnt! It creates numerous errors, look under system in even viewer for PerfLib errors.

Ditch it.. and be happy.

im sorry, it deserves the money and if you look at my post i didnt specifically blame gameex, although this machine is clean...windows (with updates, mame32 and gameex thats is and it seems to happen when scrolling through games

yes, it could be a driver issue, although its happening on both machines with totally different hardware

what information can i provide you to see its its gameex or something else...

will the event log be enough?

The GameEx log would be helpful, and I'm curious to know the lists that are crashing, are they playing videos at all, and if so what codecs do you have installed? Is this a situation where GameEx has been running for days, or does it just happen quickly after a new session?

ill grap the gameex log when i get home and post it, one machine it doesnt happen that often on the other about 2 times a day (it gets used alot) so they dont have to be running for days

its purely the games list, i have gameex pretty locked down

What I mean is for your games in The lists and the snapshots for your games, are you using videos for the snaps such as the ones from emumovies?

That's a relief to me.

In which case, please uninstall .net 2.0 and install 1.1 Then post your findings.

Cheers.

My PC just rebooted and I got the windows has recovered error. I've never seen windows do this before. The pc was not running GameEx, the pc just rebooted when I removed a bluetooh device in control panel. It says it records the info to the event log, so please check that out and post what's in there. Its not running .net framework 2.0. Although was rebuilt two days a go and has the "Latest Windows" patches. It has a fully RTM and licensed install of MCE 2005 on it.

I get: System error:

Error code 000000c2, parameter1 00000007, parameter2 00000cd4, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 84e1e554.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Not very helpfull!

This sounds to me like a driver/hardware issue to me. The box that crashed here is on its last legs, and has a faulty on board sound, as well as about 8 USB devices plugged into it!

I've had PC's reboot without warning, my guess is badly written drivers to be the main cause the problem. I got it quite a bit when I was writing WebCamSnap, sometimes plugging in my cheap ass webcam would restart the machine. When you reboot without a shutdown you'll get the "windows has recovered from a serious error" thing. Then it seems to chug away for quite a while I think it flushes the disk cache or something, but runs fine after that. I've been watching alot of videos by M$ employee's and they seem to attribute alot of issues on bad programming practices by 3rd party developers. In Vista they are bringing alot of drivers out of kernal mode and into user mode which will bring alot more stability to Vista.

I personally would stick with the known good 1.1. Why create issues for yourself if you don't have to?!?
