Maybe I'm the only one, but I can't figure out how to use the theme editor. Hate to sound like such an idiot, but is there a tutorial in the future?

Thanks,

I would guess the answer to this would be yes. Right now Tom is working on implementing some more of the Theme Editor features into GameEx which should be good news for a few people on these forums. Right now it's a bit limited it what it can do, but it's something that will gradually get better. I'm also hoping users will give feedback and requests so we can add them in.

When more people begin to make skins and learn how to use it there may be some user contributions for tutorials but if not I will probably end up writing one. It might also be cool to setup a section on Tom's site that has skins to upload and download and tutorials all in one area.

It also depends on the popularity of skinning in GameEx, right now I havn't seen much being created. Maybe people are having too many problems using it. But right now I can only help with specific questions as I recieve them on the forum. I havn't seen many posts regarding problems with using it so I assume either people arn't using it, are waiting for better support in GameEx, or have no interest in making themes. Maybe it's not as simple as that, but I will probably nock up a tute in the near future anyway.

I am in the process of making a theme, the editor is a great start. Yes ,its a little limited with what you can do but with some creativity you can get great results. My theme is very specific for my arcade but I will still upload if ya want. ;)

I am having fun with it so thanks for your hard work. :D

Emugamer, using the theme editor is kind of like using a template for a web page. If you have photoshop you can make much better backdrops than what you can do in mspaint. Its pretty simple once you get started.

Yeah, it's the getting started part that's got me puzzled. After an hour of trying to figure it out, I gave up. But I have ideas! Lot's of them!

Looking forward to a tut :D

I'm having problems just getting the editor to start. I select it, then instantaniously hear the Windows "system failure" sound, and nothing opens. I have the newest release of GameEx.

Just the sound? No error message?

Do you have .net framework 1.1 installed. I'm guessing that's the issue.

EDIT: ie you only have 1.0 installed?

Oops I didn't have it compiling for framework 1.0 compatibility.. should be fixed next release.

Please let us know how it works out!

Try the latest version (1.4) attached compiled for both 1.0 and 1.1 frameworks. Be warned though, this version is not currently supported in GameEx yet. The image and info has been separated, but GamEx will not work with it yet. But I thought you may as well get a head start in building your theme.
