Hello All,

Started configuring/set up of GameEx on my work PC just to get familiar with the interface and the mapping. Got GameEx to Launch and just put 1 rom into the Rom folder just to see if it would work. It was a tested rom working outside of GameEx. However each time I launch gameex it freezes at Gameex is updating the Mame Game list screen and will not get past 25%....Any ideas?? Below is my paths

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

I had a quick scan at your log there (it was a very quick scan) and as far as i can see there is nothing setup - everything is invalid and TBH it's not a good way to test out GameEx at all. I'm not sure what you intended to test out with such a blank system, and would also query where you put the singular rom, and if GameEx is even configured to look for it in the right place.

That being said, i don't think GE will even attempt to update the MAME list if you didn't configure something. In all honesty i would test it on a machine that is populated already with emulators and roms first, to get a true idea of what GameEx's purpose is :)

For the most part you will want to setup Mame using 'Mame Settings' in the setup wizard, not as an emulator. The setup wizard has a search feature that will help you find the correct section.

Thanks to the both of you, with alittle more patience on my part I was able to get Mame up and running properly in GameEx and it found my roms as well. Now I would like to clean up and configure to my liking. I would first like to strip Gameex Down just just the emulation part of things: I just want MAME and a few other emulators and that is it.....So the less options the better. I was thinking something the just scrolls through the Game System logo and that is it and then once you select that it launches into that particular game systems menu---any thoughts on themes or direction with that??? Also how do I incorporate the EMuVideos into the setup as well, I have an account there but does it automatically do it or does it need to be enabled somehow in setup?

For the first question, you may want to look at one of the other 'Other Versions' in the start menu. Perhaps GameEx Lite (Game Launcher Mode). If that isn't what you want, you can take a look at the Custom Menu feature.

thanks guys...I will play around with the themes but I can't seem to get the Video Snaps working. I believe I have the path correct in the setup wizard and I downloaded the MP4's directly from EMUMOVIES website so I'm not sure what the issue is. Also I downloaded Nestopia and I can get GameEx to reconginze the roms and when I go to play them it just loops back to the menu screen???

Hi Mame8080!

I'm guessing the fact that video snaps aren't playing is related to a codec issue. Do you have any custom codecs installed, or are you running with Windows defaults? Sometimes you may run into an issue in which videos will play fine outside of GameEx, but not within the frontend. That's where a codec pack can be of great assistance. Several of us on the forums use (and recommend) the Shark Codec Pack. The author of the Shark Codecs has gone to great lengths to insure that they install and moist importantly uninstall cleanly. It's definitely worth a shot to get those videos running! Be aware that if you're running on a 64 bit system that you'll need to install both the 32 bit codecs and the 64 bit codecs in that order.

When it comes to troubleshooting emulator issues, we request that you post some information about your setup. In this case I'd recommend posting a copy of your emulator config for Nestopia. That way we can get a much better picture of what's happening, rather than playing a game of 20 Questions to determine possible causes. The How to Ask For Help thread contains instructions on how to access the requested files. Also please pay close attention to the section entitled Troubleshooting with "Run Last Game", as I suspect that following those instructions would reveal a great deal of information about the nature of your Nestopia problem.

The problem with a config is that we don't know if your paths / emulator.exe are correct, or what your rom filter should be. Troubleshoot using runitgame.bat, or by using the debug option in your config.

I'll work on the other emulators. Side bar question, do the mame video snaps need to be in AVI format because I'm dowloading them from EMUMOVIES and they are MP4's???

GameEx supports mp4 as long as you have the proper codecs installed on your machine.

Like how do you mean check? Did you install one? Can you see mp4 movies on your machine outside of GameEx?

As Draco pointed out, we need the whole log. Also, post your runitgame.bat contents as was asked for earlier. Help us help you... Read the how to ask for help thread or we're gonna get nowhere fast asking the same questions over abd over. ;)

I think this will be solved by installing the correct codecs. I know there is a stigma behind codec packs, but the majority of us swear by Shark007's pack, and believe me that we don't recommend anything unless it has proven it's worth, and many many of us have installed them with zero conflicts and perfect results everytime. It's literally the 1st thing i do after a fresh OS install these days - they are that good. to quote nullPointer:

Sometimes you may run into an issue in which videos will play fine outside of GameEx, but not within the frontend. That's where a codec pack can be of great assistance. Several of us on the forums use (and recommend) the Shark Codec Pack. The author of the Shark Codecs has gone to great lengths to insure that they install and most importantly uninstall cleanly. It's definitely worth a shot to get those videos running! Be aware that if you're running on a 64 bit system that you'll need to install both the 32 bit codecs and the 64 bit codecs in that order.


EDIT - If it's just MAME not showing vids you need to set the correct path:
