Hi Guys,

new user :)

I just purchased or donated whatever to gameEX as i love the ease of it and such, however i seem to be running into a issue with my video snaps for the sega genesis (all my other video snaps, mame, model 2 etc... are running fine)

attached is my gameex.ini and log.txt

I have verified the locations etc.. and all the snaps work fine when watched via media player etc... can anyone shed some light on where i am going wrong please?

thanks in advance :)

Hey evertonian7uk and welcome to the forums! Your path looks good for the snaps. What format are the videos you are trying to preview? Also, does your artwork match the rom name?

Hi Mate,

the videos are in .AVI format, I have no artwork in the snaps folder, is that what you mean?

i also just ran into another issue, i changed the skin for Game EX and now it will not load, attached is the error log :(

Can you revert back to the previous theme so we can address the problem you are having with the videos? Then, if still having an issue with the theme changes, submit as a new thread. By addressing the issues separately, it will eliminate some confusion for you as well as those lending assistance. Thanks and welcome to the GameEx forums!

You can select the default-default theme via the Setup Wizard (loads as a separate program and included with GameEx. Click the radio button for Search, the next arrow and type Theme, Search and then Next arrow again. You should be able to exit out at this point and start GameEx.

Copy youre gameex.,ini file to a safe location. Try downloading and installing over your current and see if that remedies it. If not, then you will need to slick the enter contents of your gameex folder, however, you will still have the copy of your gameex.ini file to copy back, preserving your emulator and image paths.

ok making headway now, i have my installation back up and running, however i am still having issues with the genesis vids and i believe its because the vids do not have the same names as the roms for example:

Rom name: ALIENSOL.smd

VID NAME: Alien Soldier (U).mp4

any ideas on how i can mass fix these?? they were downloaded from emumovies and i purchased the DVD on ebay..... now i think this is a bad thing?

my2cents: Use either the Artwork Downloader that comes with GameEx and/or use the built in downloader that you can activate in the GameEx wizard itself, either way they both use Emumovies and will name your artwork accordingly. I repeat both services use Emumovies anyway.

/my2cents

EDIT: I re-read and see that you bought some vids off ebay, as long as the sale was kosher, here is my advice: find an app called Skinny Match on these forums, it will rename your artwork (vids) to match your roms :)

I dont believe it!

I loaded everything back up and got it sweet, then went into theme style again and changed it to Alpha Blue 2011

the thing has crashed AGAIN with the same error as above, WTH!!

another full re-install? this sucks big time.

**Edit**

there is a problem with the theme Alpha Blue 2011 i took the contents of another theme and put it in the Alpha folder and it loaded fine, might want to look into that as a bug guys :)

It is a great app, but for some reason all the iteration names (FatMatch, SkinnyMatch, PerfectMAtch) remind me of online dating sites. :P

HAHA! ^_^

Thanks for the heads-up! Does it happen with any others that you have noticed? Or just Alpha Blue?

seems to be only alpha blue.

so i joined the emuvids site today, paid the $60 and downloaded all there genesis vids and they still arent showing up in my gameEX front end.

starting to get a little frustrated, i chose gameEX over hyperspin because the reviews said this was better, i have mame working perfect, snes is nearly perfect but sega is showing any of my clips at all.

is there any tuts on how to use this perfect match program for vids maybe? i cannot get vids or snaps to show in sega.

And it is better. Not everything is "out of the box" working without a little input and configuration. If you can give us an example of a ROM name and corresponding image name from your recent download, as well as provide us with a copy of your emulator config, we may be able to help you sort it out! Have patience! You are almost there!

thanks mate, when i go into the game optiosn for example if i choose to find game by publisher etc... all the videos work, if i go in and choose 1 - 2 players games all the videos work.

I wonder if there is a problem with my game list, because if i choose games by year for example in the sega menu i get 1990 - 1995 but inside each option there is only maybe 5 or 6 games, is there a way to update my sega games list??

were do i get the emulator config from mate?

Based on the ROM name you posted, it appears that your set is using a non-standard naming convention. PerfectMatch is a great tool, but it utilizes DATs and XML files to rename your artwork files. This means that it sort of assumes that your ROMs are already utilizing standard naming.

I'd actually consider killing two birds with one stone and renaming your ROMs to match your videos (which do conform to standard naming). PerfectMatch could handle this, but it would probably make more sense to do it with a ROM auditing tool. In a nutshell these tools will compare your ROMs against a known ROM dump, and rename them accordingly. You'll want to back up your data before you do this!

For new(ish) users I tend to recommend ROMCenter. It’s a great tool to have in your arsenal. Here are a couple of tutorials to help get you started with ROMCenter:

Romcenter 3 tutorial
ROMCenter Wiki

Another great tool to be aware of is the venerable ClrMamePro. ClrMamePro is not nearly as user friendly as ROMCenter, but it’s got a lot more history behind it, and often times you’ll see the grizzled old emulation veterans using CMP over ROMCenter.

Here’s the complete guide to using ClrMamePro.

Good luck man. There are several ways to accomplish what you want to do, but I think the above is a pretty good option.

I would recommend just using the automatic downloader that comes with GameEx.

Start -> GameEx -> Download Artwork and Videos

Its free since you have a purchased EmuMovies account and the license with GameEx. Once it's loaded up, put in the login credentials you created when you registered with EmuMovies. Then all you have to do is tell it where your ROMs are located, and then choose from the dropdown list the artwork you want to get (Screenshots, Titles, Box Art, Cartridge Art, Videos, etc). It will automatically rename the video upon downloading to match the ROM that you have. Once its all done, you just need to go into the GameEx Setup Wizard and point the emulator config to the new path the downloaded created (or move the downloaded files to the path you already have configured).

If that doesn't work, you MIGHT just need to go through and do a manual rename of your videos. PerfectMatch (SkinnyMatch etc) will work to a degree, but I think it's more hassle than needs to be.

Ultimately what I'm afraid you're going to end up needing to do is what nullPointer was suggesting (using RomCenter). Your ROMs aren't in a standard naming format, and they're probably already too hard to easily identify what the games are supposed to be. Using RomCenter and the appropriate .DAT will rename your ROMs to a more readable format that is standardized and guaranteed to match with what EmuMovies uses.
