I set the whole table in the manager. Start the table, it works, but the DMD disappears. Press F3 and the DMD now appears. I can fix this? How?
Note: I'm using B2S backglass. Can someone help me solve this problem?
Thank you.

This issue should have been resolved for some others that reported it post version 1.56. Please provide copies of your pinballx.ini and log.txt files whenever reporting a problem so that the author (and often other members) can assist you quicker with any issues you may be having with your setup. If you are running a version that is not current, I heartily recommend upgrading your installation first to see if that remedies your issue. Thank you.

Hi,

I too have an issue with ver 1.70 where the dmd display sits in the background of my 2nd display and I get it to finally display by going through the Alt-Tab key strokes till it comes up.

I would really like to know a suggestion to fix this.

Does this only happen when starting a table with PinballX?

Could you paste a screenshot of your windows display settings?

The Playfield should be #1 and the Backglass #2 in windows settings

Also the Backglass monitor should be placed on the right side of the Playfield monitor (also in windows settings, not in your cab ;-) )

Edit: Oh, just forgot: Do you have a 2 screen or 3 screen setup?

If i set the PF up in PX as #1 and the BG as #2 it switches my screens.

2 Monitor setup. primary - left side PF secondary right side BG

This only happens in PX mate, on its own it works perfectly in VisPin.

just trying to post a pic of the screen res

I just found an ahk script at a different forum which waits for the "hglass1" application and sends it to the background.

Well, I don't know if links to another forum are allowed (probably not), so I uploaded it to my dropbox

https://www.dropbox.com/s/q6g55go3onm369d/VpmToFront.rar

The exe file is the compiled script. If you don't want to use that exe, install ahk and compile it yourself (you'll fin the ahk file in the archive).

Just put the exe in your startup folder and your problems should be gone - hopefully...

I know you said it works outside of PBX, but I'm wondering if it's an issue with the old VPMAME and PBX? Do you know what version you are running, and is it CAB or NON-CAB? I'm running the new SAM compiled VPMAME with PinDMDv2 support (r3497 v1.2). I just prepped a desktop version of my cab setup to troubleshoot/test and noticed some strange issues with the DMD. Once I upgraded to a newer version the problems disappeared.

This might break things for others but please try the attached.

Also Capp I see from your log you have the PX DMD Window enabled and on the same monitor as the back glass, although you say you have a 2 monitor setup.

Also people, please ensure you post your logs and settings along with OS version. I appreciate you reporting issues so others can benefit from the fix but don't go about it half assed please.

Also I hope someday we can move on from XP and with all that about being it recommended to use. I personally recommend windows 8 or newer.

Posted

At least Vista as a minimal OS requirement. Win 7 and 8 are still just advanced iterations of the same core and generally, if a machine will run Vista, it can handle 7 & 8.

Posted

I am not going to force it on folks just yet but other than the cost of the OS there is little to stop the average pin cab from being upgraded. The main thing that has been dropped throughout the newer revisions of windows is video card support and that is not generally an issue for anyone running a pincab or who has a PC used for any kind of emulation. Future Pinball works fine on windows 8 and other pinball software is still in active development so there is no real reason other than the cost of the OS not to upgrade. PinballX and pretty much everything else runs better on Windows 8/8.1 in my experience. Certainly PinballX does anyway and there is a huge performance boost in the front end from it running on Windows 7.

I know there are guides out there that recommend running XP for Pinball but in my opinion they are in serious need of an update and when PinballX and other pinball software gets more online features you don't want to be running an unpatched version of windows come April.

Posted

A conversation we have had a few times. XP is a great OS, but it is losing support from MS in April as you noted and has been losing support from hardware manufacturers for a while now. Programming any application to be backwards compatible across several OS iterations in the past tends to bloat the code and the cost of maintaining it in money and time.

Posted

Yes it can take time and there is an active issue with PinballX on some XP setups. I spent a long time trying to fix it and broke a load of other stuff doing so. I still couldn't resolve it. Other than that its not been an issue for PinballX or GameEx. A lot more time was spent getting things to work on newer versions of windows but that could well change.

sry havent got back sooner, but have been committed to building the cab

"PX DMD Window enabled and on the same monitor as the back glass" seemed to be the issue. Changed that setting , now all is good, thanks guys for the help.
