i would like to back up the file but what is the file name?

Backup your "DATA" folder and everything need to save is saved.

By the way, just to let you know, the MAME game list and MAME favorites is a lot less likely to get corrupted if you you do a hard shutdown etc. I made an update a few versions ago, and the list is only saved when a favorite is added or removed on exiting GameEx and not everytime GameEx exits.
