hey peeps

Unfortunately Ive been too busy over the past few months to post here - let alone play games on the awesome Gamex- but I'm back and trust youve all been well :)

Coupla questions since Ive been out of the loop:

1) Cant recall where in GameEx to find the current version and wondered what the latest update includes (I zip up the installed GameEx folder as backup in case anything breaks on update - that works right?)?

2) Are there any better new themes? lean 1080 sized ones with big screenshots? I tried to build one once and although I am more than comfortable with the photoshop, i found theme generation confusing and tedious - is it any easier now?

3) Anyone using GameEx to launch old DOS games? I had a search here but couldnt find how to set things up. Any hints?

thanks! and its good to be back

Hello snarls, and welcome back!

1) I usually open GameEx.ini and search for "Version=" (without quotes).

2) If you check the GameEx homepage, Themes section, you'll find the latest entries. Beside that, Tom and Headkaze are working on a complete rewrite of the GameEx's graphic engine, but no ETA at the moment.

3) Simply put, I dunno! :)

Thanks - looking forward to the rewrite - I'd even pay for an upgrade for that :)

3) DOSbox. :)

i started using D-Fend Reloaded as a front end to DOSbox , but I'm having trouble getting the joysticks to work and map to keys to play the dos games. I'm using wireless xbox controllers that work with all my other emus - is there a trick to getting D-Fend/DOSbox to recognize them?

Did you try using xpadder?

DOSBox is tricky setting up with XPadder, ill tell you. Having to map out each game to your 360 controller (when most only used keyboard back then) will be tidious. For that reason alone i have only a handful of my favorite DOS games, all of which i use just the keyboard for (wireless of course).

thanks for the xpadder tip everyone - I'm currently using the JoyIDs utility (so I can get 8 xbox wireless controllers working with Saturn Bomberman) will Xpadder conflict with that? or with the Logiech software as I also have 2 more wireless F170 gamepads in the mix too. I'm hesitant to try anything else as I dont want to break anything that took awhile to set up...?

thanks celly - this is a bit of a bummer since I'm running GameEx on an htpc and the only keyboard on the couch I'm using is this one:

and though it's ok to type in a forum with, it's not very good to play duke nukem with ;)

i was hoping D-Fend Reloaded had something like other emus have which let you save gamepad profiles by pressing keys on the pad and assigning them with a GUI interface - guess it will be a slow setup to get everything going for dosbox...
