UGH frustrated with trackball issues?

I have a cabinet that I have been trouble shooting the track ball for months now. It works just fine as a mouse on the desktop and fine inside GameEX to select games but as soon as i pull up a game like golden tee golf the trackball seems to not work at all. I have been all over the internet and all over forums to find a solution and nothing has seemed to fix the issue!!! I have tried the tab and settings route and it doesn't seem to read my trackball! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you add it to the mame command line?

i am kind of new to this concept so i am not really savvy as to how to do it and where to input it. sorry if there is a tutorial as to where to find the right spot i would like to look! i have looked through the crtrl file and couldn't find a spot or maybe i missed it.

In the setup wizard, under MAME options, add -mouse in the command line options, I think it's right under the mame exe setting.
