Just curious when we create a custom menu and I create a new menu and assign a logo image that image becomes Image1 now what happens with image2? Image2 is just blank and I want to have a videos play from the items that are under that menu item. Am I missing something here or when you create a new menu you can only have a logo assigned to it and image2 just doesn't display any image or videos.

mmmh, I dont know it exactly, but i think you have for every emulator two screens. emulator and emulator selected. One of these screens have the behaviour you have described, but the other screen doesnt have a logo (you can choose from) at all, so that image 1 and 2 is showing the stuff where you pointed it in the setup-wizard.

I also would like to have more control for these fields. For example if you have changed your view to show Titles instead of names, one of these fields is showing Titles too, which is useless, because why you would show the same thing like Titles twice?

Firstly can i say what a great front-end and thanks to the author...

I have a similar problem, i'm displaying a custom list for say 10 systems, i have a video playing in the first image which shows various ingame footage of games for that system, and is called 'Atari 2600.flv' for example, in the same directory i have an image 'Atari 2600.png' and i want the image 2 to display this image... whatever i try i can't get it to work, sounds like a similar problem to you... am i missing something simple fella's?

GameEx will always prioritize Movies vs. Images. That means if GameEx find a movie with the same name, it will use the movie instead of the image. To solve your problem, it is only neccessary to change the name of the movie, but remember that your movie will probably never be shown then. Try this and let us know, if this resolved your problem.

u-man thanks for the reply,

i've enclosed a snap of what i have temporarily...

the menu we're looking at here is the start menu, in simple mode,

the idea being scroll up and down the systems select screen and an image of the system (SNES)(image2) is displayed and a compilation video (SNES)(image1) showing underneath of the selected systems games... all good... in theory...

i've setup for each system

image snap path = snaps-ingame

title snap path = snap-title

with this set up, on the system select screen we get the system (SNES) video displayed correctly below a randomly selected (SNES) ingame snapshot obviously not what i want...

i tried a new directory called snaps-gameex, and pointed image snap path to it, added the SNES.png it displayed nothing, added any other png image to the same directory and it will randomly select one of the 2 and display it.. (i'm guessing this is a bug but not a problem as it will at least display the system image..., above the video of the system (SNES)... all good...

now obviously my images don't display correctly in the selected systems games list, as image snap path is now pointing to a directory with only 2 images in and none of them correspond to the name of any of the games....

i'm sure i've explained this whole setup like i'm a complete cabbage, but hopefully u get what i'm saying...

any help appreciated...

mak

Sorry you weren't able to set this up as you want, but I wouldn't go so far as to call you a cabbage. Nice theme btw. Did you create it?

Posted

Yes i did, i've had a head-start over most to be fair as i worked as a computer graphic artist in the 80's and 90's so it's pretty easy to knock things together... i have the menus in the same style as i have my cabs...

i have 2 arcade machines, a goliath cab and a taito field goal cocktail, both converted to mame cabs...

i like the menus to be clean and clear for my own personal tastes, i've been using mala for about 3-4 years, but it was kinda sluggish which seems bizarre as i have fast machines, i tried hyperspin over the last couple of months, but it's way too graphical and garish for me, and even in the simple modes i couldn't get it to display the games list just how i want them...

then i found gameex about a month ago, got it absolutely perfect, except for the start menu... shame, but i'll have to live without displaying the videos on the system select.. not a big deal...

i've enclosed the marquee i'm using on the goliath, nice and clean... hahahaha... ;)

cheers

i am not sure, with what you mean with "displaying videos on the system select", but you can display system-videos if you put them in the Logo folder of your theme folder. you need to give them the same name as the corresponding logo.png file.... i.e. 2600.avi vs. 2600.png.

you can download system-movies at emumovies.com in the download section. you will find a system-movie for nearly every system. put this into your Logo folder in your them-folder and when you setup a emulator in the setup-wizard, go to the emulator setup- section and under "Logo", choose your system movie.

"Ok but now my logo doesnt show more..... :( " ... here you need a trick. you take your logo-picture and integrate it in your theme-background. if you do this for each system, you can use the pictures afterwards in the theme-editor, by choosing the right back- or foreground for the selected emulator.

worth a try, i did it that way.

downside is, you create a lot of images, which look nearly the same, with the only difference in showing the logo.... who cares ;).
