hansolo77 Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I like Donkey Kong, but I suck at the arcade version. I've never been able to get to the 2nd stage. On my old Atari 800, I made it to stage 4 once. Quote
Luigimaker Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 By stage do you mean completing the barrel part or completing the first 2 levels? Quote
hansolo77 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Well, I'm not sure what the 2nd stage is in the arcade version because I've never made it that far lol. I'm referring to whatever comes next after getting to the top of the screen on the barrels screen and (not exactly) rescuing the princess. Quote
Mame Offender Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 My Saturday morning game of Donkey Kong: 143,600! ....which is far shy of my highest. That is one of the many things that make this get so special. One game you could be meandering in Brian Kuh territory, which would be 400 to 500,ooo. Your next game, you will be under 100k! Unless you are a pro(Wes Copeland, Billy M, Steve W, etc.) score consistency will never be there!! Looking forward to July Gotm. MO Quote
hansolo77 Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 I was gonna add this to the high score board. Then I thought I'd bash you a bit for the screenshot.. Then I realized the score you already have posted is 300k, so this was just for fun. Still, that's a hell of a good score. I hate that I suck at arcade games so much. It's still fun to participate though! July GOTM coming soon! Quote
Luigimaker Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Wow look at how close I was, I once thought this was impossible kill me Quote
hansolo77 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Donkey Kong is so unforgiving. There's supposed to a pattern you can watch for and makes getting scores easy, but I've never been able to do it. Updated OP Quote
Luigimaker Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Yes final- god damn it so close to 6th Quote
hansolo77 Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 VERY close. Maybe next time! Updated OP, DB, RSS Quote
Mame Offender Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 I got 209500 this morning. I thought it was worth a mention. MO 1 Quote

The unpredictability of the foes really keeps you on your feet. The programmer of Donkey Kong went above and beyond other "pattern based" games. Almost all elements happen randomly. The only way you surpass Brian Kuh territory is to practice and play. A lot. Because there is no set patterns in this brilliant masterpiece. Sharpen up your timing and reaction time and you might have a chance at a really high score. MO 1 Quote

Mame Offender Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 As promised. Doesn't help my position, but it's been a while since I hit 200k..... Quote
hansolo77 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Still a lot better than I can do. I'd take that score myself. Quote
Mame Offender Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 It doesn't move me on the boards, but I feel I have to mention it. I started my day with a 200k run. 204,000 L = 07 I was expecting more, but I am used to failure when it comes to this gritty classic... 1 Quote
hansolo77 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 That's still a pretty good score. I can't even hive the #10 spot. Quote
Mame Offender Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 What a game!! I'll never be bored of this game.... 329,900 Quote
hansolo77 Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Hate you.. I still can't make it to the 2nd (or was it 3rd) stage. I was way better with my Atari 800 version, but it probably used different algorithms. Thanks for trying to keep us alive! Updated OP, DB, RSS Quote
