Hey guys,

I've been all over this forum tonight as well as a few others looking for a solution to this problem. The error message I'm getting is:

unhandled exception while initing image reader

I'm using the latest version of nullDC v1.04 r136 I believe. Everything was working fine in Maximus Arcade. I Didn't get this error until trying to load my disc images within GameEx after switching my setup over from Maximus. However, I don't believe the problem is with GameEx because I get the error running the emu outside of GameEx as well.

Attached is my nullDC config. Any idea's on how to fix this? DirectX is up to date as well as my C++

Anyone else have this emu working in GameEx?

Thanks

A copy of your gameex.ini and log.txt files please. Also, need to know if you are running any 3rd party plugins when you get the error mentioned and, if so, is the complete error message more like “Unhandled exeption while initing image reader plugin by drk Raziel & Gigaherz (April 11 2012) plugin" ?

A little more detail may go a long way as just switching from one frontend to another should not break it to where it does not work in GameEx and outside of GameEx. Does it work still under Maximus or did you upgrade your version of nullDC after switching FEs? If still working under Maximus are there any plugins within Maximus that are required to make it work?

Also, since you are new to the forums, you would benefit from the topic 'How to Ask for Help'. You can find that topic by clicking on my signature. I would troubleshoot using the 'runitgame.bat' method.

Yes, that is the exact error message. I haven't updated nullDC as I was already using the latest version of the emu. I've already removed Maximus Arcade from my cab, but I didn't use any third party plug-ins while running the emulator under MA, but as I said it ran fine under MA. The only thing I used was an AutoHotKey script to boot the emu into Full Screen mode upon launch. That has been removed as well. I notice that if I try and set my nullDC config to LoadDefaultImage=1, I get the error both in and out of GameEx. I've updated my C++ and directX again just to be sure. Didn't help.

I've always had an error when launching nulldc with the option LoadDefaultImage=1 (it crashes). I think It is required to load an image with the command line, so leave it at 1.

Everything else looks very similar to my configs. I would just avoid the apostrophe in a folder name (C:\Program Files\GameEx\Roms\Sega Dreamcast\Dreamcast ISO's). Other than that i dont see anything strange.

But don't I need the nullDC config to say LoadDefaultImage=1 in order for GameEx to load the game? Otherwise it just hangs there...?? I'd really like to get this working.

Ok guys, I've tried different things. It's obviously something I'm doing wrong within my configuration... I must be the only one who hasn't figured out how to get this emulator working within my Game Ex setup. Below are the updated config files and my runitgame.bat

Just to note, when I change my Image Reader settings in my nullDC config to "1" I get the error.... if I leave it at it's default setting of "0" I can run games outside of Game Ex.

Hi Riffman81!

You've got an error in your nullDC command line as configured in GameEx. You've got an extra "1" in there which will definitely cause problems for you.

emu_11_command=nullDC_Win32_Release-NoTrace.exe -config ImageReader:DefaultImage=1"[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

As a point of comparison here's the command line I'm using for nullDC

emu_24_command=nullDC_Win32_Release-NoTrace.exe -config ImageReader:DefaultImage="[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

Setting LoadDefaultImage=1 (and Emulator.AutoStart=1) in your nullDC.cfg are necessary steps to run nullDC from the command line I'm afraid. When testing outside of GameEx you'll want to attempt to run nullDC from the command line if possible as that will most closely duplicate the necessary steps for running the emulator within GameEx. Runitgame.bat can help immensely in that regard. You can tweak runitgame.bat and attempt to rerun the emulator as often as you like. If you add a pause command to runitgame.bat (as advised in the How to Ask For Help thread) is there any sort of error message output?

Thanks for the responce nullPointer. I put that "1" in my command line because I believe I read that it had to be there... I believe I saw that posted in another thread here when setting up nullDC. I'll reset everything and post back, following the recomendations you posted above. Are those the only two things I need to change in my nullDC config? I believe all my disc images are .cdi will this matter or is there a setting I need to change? nullDC ran fin under Maximus Arcade, didn't require any changes to the nullDC config... I'll look and see what commandline MA was using, although I doubt it'll help.

Consider this resolved. I was able to get the emu running. Not sure what was wrong, but when I did a fresh install of the emu. It started right up with no errors. Thanks for all your help guys!
