- GameEx 5.75

  • Lots of little fixes and
tweaks to things that I wont mention, but its
always a good idea to get the latest version of
    GameEx.
  • Enhancements in this version:
  • New Karaoke Jukebox for
    registered users!
  • Configuration application now
loads and runs much much quicker.
  • New functionality in
Configuration application to import and export
emulator configurations to a file, or import
included emulator configurations. I hope people
like this feature, it should help newbies and
    people sharing configurations.

Hi Tom, the Karaoke function dosn't seem to work for me. It's saying "no media found". I definately have it pointing to the right folder.

Could you see if you have any Karaoke Dat files in the data directory and post them? You have both the .cdg's and mp3'3 in the folder yes?

Yes, I have both mp3's and cdg's.

Yep your absolutely right. Seems like recent versions of the install have been missing the tag reading DLL.

Obviously I thought it was fine because I had the DLL. Doh!

This explains the other jukebox issues now too.

I'm upping 5.76 now.

Cheers for helping me figure it out, as I know if it aint working for you I've deffinitly screwed up.

The 5.75 download does not seem to work at this moment, the website is all ok otherwise.

Hi Tom, tested version 5.76 and now the list shows, but when I select a song nothing happens. It's supposed to show the graphics/text for the song in full screen right?

BTW I don't think I'll be using this feature, I prefer using my method with wmpfull because:

1. The built in method takes ages to display the list of songs

2. I have lots of songs but none of them seem to have mp3 tags so it makes the categories useless

It works on a queue mechanism, you have to either go into the playlist or select start player. I will be making a few improvements to it. Alhough it does seem most Karaoke stuff does not have tags for some reason.. When you say ages, how long?

It takes about 15 seconds to show the list. I assume it's loading each tag every time you go in there. Perhaps you could add an option "use tags" or "dont use categories" so it just loads the list without reading the mp3 tags. Also, it should play a song when you select it, from memory when people "do" karaoke the next song is usualy chosen while the current one is playing rather than a preset playlist. I would expect people would choose a song from the list just before they "sing" it. But I am by no means a karaoke expert (thankfully).

The config app can no longer be seen through a VNC session. All I see is a black screen - it works fine when viewing on the actual monitor. VNC also has trouble displaying the Windows tooltray bubbles - perhaps your new method of displaying the config app is similar. I'm using UltraVNC.

Ill check it out but its odd, all its doing is showing a window as a dialog.

Are you using the latest version of UltraVNc?

Have you tried Remote Desktop, GameEx should be compatible with that now and I only peronally use UltraVNC when remote desktop is not an option, mainly on my low res arcade cab. Ill check it out though see if it works for me.

It should cache the tags, so it must be a bug or something else slowing it down, ill check it out. In my experience of Karaoke at a venue the Karaoke guy queues up songs then has a beer or chats with the punters. Although I am going to add a one click option also, so that should sort that out. Its a bit diffificult to queue a song while ones playing at least for an app designed for a remote or game controls like gameex.

I appreciate the feedback.

Yeah, it's weird. I left out a critical bit of information in my first post. The top-level menus of the config app display fine. I can click on next page and previous page and they work fine, but as soon as I click on one of the buttons to enter a configuration page it all goes black. If I hover the mouse in the correct locations the tooltips still popup describing the option that the mouse is hovering over. If I right-click on the config app icon in the taskbar and click close, it returns to the top-level menu.

Yes, I'm using the latest stable release of UltraVNC (1.01).

I'll give Remote Desktop a try tonight.

Thanks

wicked! karaoke!!! did you get this idea from my little config that i uploaded Tom??? :-D

Yes partly and Headkaze, and theres demand for it. Apart from that call me a loser if you like, but I actually like Karaoke, although am a little gravly ;)

I think Americans do it best at least in my experience, where I am its just a piss take, and for singing when pissed. It is considered a bit sad I know, but i thinks its fun if you dont take yourself seriously that is.

Ahh... good old karaoke Tom. Americans do it well, but I have to say that I have had my fair share of fun in the UK.

Search for karaoke to see pics of me

I also have karaoked in china, which was a total experience.

If I havent gotten enough karaoke, in my last year in college I developed an online karaoke machine that will sync up lyrics to any MP3. Its quite interesting. A little broken nowadays on the sync part, but it worked when we demoed it to people in industry.

I tried Remote Desktop and it doesn't look like it's going to work for me since it doesn't support multiple monitors.

Well, I tried UltraVNC again and now it's working  - virtually nothing has changed since it wasn't working (except for enabling and disabling Remote Desktop).

Sorry about the false bug report.

well im in Australia, and i can definatley say, karaoke is just a pisstake on blokes and sheilas who cant sing when their pissed as maggots. Hence why i took steps to make sure it was included in the Drunkade!! project!
