Hi, I'm trying to upgrade to the newest version of GameEx which includes new support for Steam. During the installation process it asked me if I wanted to download and install a Steam "wrapper" (I think that was the word). Unfortunately, my arcade computer is not connected to the internet and doing so would be a big hassle. Can I download and install the needed Steam files any other way?

I skipped the download step and installation finished fine. Maybe I don't need those files because now when I launch GameEx I noticed that there is an option under Emulated Games for Steam, but it just says there are no games detected. Also, in the GameEx setup there is a page for Steam setup. I entered my username and password there. But that brings me to another question, does the Steam integration work if I am running Steam in "offline" mode? I understand I wouldn't get the videos or screenshots while offline and that is okay, I just want to be able to launch the games.

So I'm just not sure if the problem of no games appearing in GameEx under Steam is a problem with not downloading those files during installation or if I'm just setting it up wrong. To be clear, I do have games downloaded and installed in Steam and I have tried to run GameEx both with Steam running in the background and not running. Thanks.

Slightly off topic, but something I just though of: People are often asked to post their setup log in order to help troubleshoot. I hope that the Steam username and password is not part of this file. Is that correct?

It should be encrypted and not show. I am not sure if you will be able to do much without being able to connect online. The wrappers are helpful for some games so it may be of benefit to you.

Ok well thanks. I guess I'll just have to wait until the next time I get enough time/motivation to move the computer out of the cabinet temporarily.

Out of curiosity, have you considered hooking that bad boy up to a wireless adapter? You wouldn't need to leave it plugged in all the time if you chose not to, but I bet it would sure make your life easier when you needed a quick network connection. Just a thought.

Or, if wireless is an issue due to location, ethernet over powerline adapters? I use one to connect to my blue ray player in the living room and it works great. Not quite as fast as direct ethernet but at least a little better than wireless G speeds.

Some powerline adapters will run faster than wireless N at its best depending on what you buy and the cabling in your place. I've had good experiences with them. There really good these days.

I was skeptical at first, but now convinced. It is definitely more secure than wireless in some ways. The speeds were much better when both adapters were on the same electrical circuit. Since it has to jump from one to another in the current configuration it has slowed a little. Still a great idea.

I plan to give it a wireless adapter once I upgrade the one I'm using on my day-to-day desktop to Wireless-N. Actually, I hope to wire my upstairs with Ethernet, but I've also looked into the powerline adapters too if my other idea falls through. So right now I will either have to roll the cabinet 30 feet to connect via wired or just pull the PC out and hook it up to my TV which also has a LAN drop.
