mame starts but won't load rom

please help,i start a mame game and i see that it starts to load a rom,shows percentage of the loading rom,then blank screen,then back to game ex,mame works fine when i start it outside of the game ex front end,any suggestions? thanks Tom

So welcome to the GameEx forums! In order that we might efficiently address your issue I would ask that you post a copy of your GameEx.ini and a copy of your log immediately after having experienced your error. Here are the instructions on how to access that information. In the meantime, what version of MAME are you using? Are you running 'vanilla MAME' or something like MameUI? Have you verified that your ROM set matches your version of MAME?

That information will help us to determine the nature of your problem.

thanks for trying to help,but i need a simpler response,like is it a video setting or some other setting i could try,cause mame works outside of the front end,the mame version is the one download from game ex just a few months ago.and nazi's are bad ,Rommel was'nt really a nazi ,he was killed by the nazis because his name was metioned in the july 44 bomb plot on hitler.

Without the requested files, you may get a simple response that is wrong. Please submit a copy of your log.txt and gameex.ini file. You can attach the copies in your response by clicking on "Use Full Editor" and "Choose Files" under the "Attach Files" option. You can browse directly to the files to upload/attach.

Providing the requested information will help us provide what is hopefully a simple response. Otherwise we start taking shots in the dark or go with a shotgun approach in which we throw out a bunch of potential solutions. Either way will likely fail to do much good for you. Once we have a look at your log and GameEx.ini we can suggest some targeted approaches.

Troubleshoot with the runitgame.bat file as instructed by those same instructions and you'll see the error code that may be causing it. May be just a simple command-line switch that your version of mame doesn't like.

IIf it helps - I had this same problem - the game worked in MAME but not when started from GAMEX. Turned out that for some games - the startup options were not correct (Advance MAME Settings in GAMEEX configuration). For the games I had problems with - I simple deleted the default setting and left nothing there.
