Theme wont load

The Theme contest ends very soon, so I tried to create an own theme.

I started Theme Editor - New Theme - Source: Wood - custom resolution: 1920x1080

I just replaced the Background and the size and placment of some Elements in the start-Template.

I saved and tried in GameEx - but it wont start!

Please help!

Edit: Nevermind. I chose another source and now it works. Hope I get it finished soon.

BTW: How do I get rid of unwanted Objects e.g. weather?

You will find that in the Edit>Options under the second tab I believe to enable/disable various features within the theme.

omg..... I searched the Menus a thousand times but i never clicked options.....

May I ask another question?

There are plenty of white pixels appearing in most of the console-pictures (only in black regions). Those white areas are not shown in any other program, only in GameEx.

Is there an easy way to get rid of this?

You may want to post some examples (the actual image and a screen capture of the image as displayed in GameEx, please). Depending on the source, some images may not be as clean as others. Seems odd that you are seeing image artifacts via GameEx only.

The pixels seem to be transparent (I coloured the background black as a workaround for this).

There is another problem with the font color (Title, Selection, List Num and Menu have another color than the List itself.

Unfortunately I cant post a screenshot cause...I dont know how.....

I only get a black screen when pressing "print screen" for screenshot.

Google for a program called Greenshot (open source image capture program). Very easy to use, free. You will have to run GameEx in windowed mode to make the capture. Also, do you have Enable Alpha Channel checked under the Options>Settings tab?

The "Enable Alpha Channel" did the trick, no white pixels anymore!

Only 2 things:

1) The Font color of the List is white (as it should be), but all other Font colors are silver?!

2) Cant take snapshots cause the Theme wont load in windowed mode...

It will load in windowed mode - when in full screen, if you click in the far upper-right corner, it should scale down to a window view. You may need to resize the window. As for the font colors being off, I have had that occur before as well, but then disappear with no intervention after opening and closing GameEx or resaving the theme a few times. Keep in mind that the current Theme Editor and GameEx's rendering routines will eventually be replaced and much more robust.

Unfortunately GameEx switches to a default Theme when switching in windowed mode....

Maybe cause the Theme Size is 1920x1080 (which is the max resolution of the LCD)?

In Setup Wizard > Display Settings, make sure that Don't switch resolution is enabled.

Do me a favor, please. In Theme Editor, start a new theme and use your theme as the source. You will need to give it a name different than the source. Also, select Version 4 theme in the version options (as opposed to Version 2 or Automatic). Next, save the theme and then change the theme in Setup Wizard to this new theme, click the next arrow until you get to the confirmation page, then exit Setup Wizard. Finally, load GameEx and see if the same error occurs and report back.

Did what you said - same errors :-(

Here is a screenshot (well, sort of...) showing 2 problems:

1) The silver Font

2) The missing "unselected" bar in the list after GameEx loads. The unselected Bars appear after a keypress.

I think I´ll find a workaround for those issues (or accept them)....

BUT: Can I contribute to the contest without screenshots?

OK, I have loaded your theme up and see what you are saying about the "silver" text when white is selected. First off, with the brightness of your theme in a hi-def setting, white is not going to show good at all. I changed it to a dark grey or charcoal color and it contrasts much better at 1080p.

Also, the Impact font is very tiresome on the eyes and I do not recommend. I have provided for you in the file attached the amended theme.ini file along with a folder containing the Segoe UI fonts. Install them to your machine and provide them with your theme when you are finished and upload them. I selected the Segoe UI Bold for the changes I made to recommend to you. Much better on the eyes when using a hi-def theme and at a distance.

You may want to also look into updating your video card drivers and confirm you have the resolution in your display settings for your monitor. I saw the unselected bars just fine, in Windowed mode, no revision back to Default-Default mode. To be honest, I had none of the difficulties or errors you presented thus far other than the white text showing as "silver."

Maybe someone else can look at your log.txt file at the beginning of the thread. You may also want to present a copy of your gameex.ini file so that can be reviewed as well.

Hi there,

I think the silver font you mention is/was a feature that Tom may have been trying out and still remains - it will always show a gradient font for game info etc when selecting PURE WHITE for your font (FFFFFF) so if you really want white for your font change the color to something just off - try FCFCFC.

This should remove the gradient (silver) font and make all white and nobody will know its not "pure brilliant white" (well except for everyone reading this lol)

Well, the color of the Font was only a test. The white Font is burning holes in your eyes, as Draco mentioned.

Now its time to finish the Theme...

@Draco: Thanks for the input. So the "Window-mode-Issue" is a Hardware thing (Got the latest divers).

This is not the first problem I have with my ATI Graphics. Maybe its time to buy a new one(nVidia).

It could be if updating the driver doesn't fix it for you. I had no problems with your theme in its present state other than what I mentioned initially.

OK, my Theme is finished (finally...!).

But, guess what - I am still not able to take screenshots because the Theme wont load in window mode.

What I found out about this Issue:

It seems to be a Hardware issue. The Theme wont load in Window mode on my Cab and on my Laptop (Same error, see log.txt in first post).

If I decrease the resolution in the Theme.ini the Theme loads in Window mode - but the Objects in the Theme are pretty messed up (clear, cause its a 1920x1080 Theme).

If I set the resolution of the Theme to 1600x1080 and below, the Theme loads on my Laptop in window mode (still the error on my cab).

If I set it to 1200x1080 and below, the Theme loads in window-mode on my Cab too....
