Custom menu and marquees (Space Invaders / Maximum Arcade Theme)

Hi everybody!

I have the following questions:

1) I've created a custom menu using GameEx Custom Menus.

My startscreen consists of submenu's like Arcade, Console etc...

My Arcade menu conistst of only the submenu MAME right now. I was wondering if I select the submenu MAME I can let GameEx show a custom Marquee-picture and video?

Right now I only get a marquee and video when I select a Mame-game but I would also like GameEx to show a marquee and video when I'm in the startmenu and select the submenu Arcade or Console for example.

2) I'm trying out the nice Space Invaders Theme.

When Mame is selected in the menu (see attached picture; see post #2) I would like GameEx to show a marquee picture instead of a video in the buttom right screen (see arrow in picture; see post #2).

I'd be very glad if somebody could tell me how I have to adjust the theme.ini or gameexe.ini to achieve this.

Does anyone have any idea how I can accomplish this?

In Setup Wizard, simply point all paths to where you have your marquee images stored except for your snaps path - you will want to keep it pointing to your static and video snaps.

I've attached a picture of my MAME paths. Could you explain what I should do / how I should set up my paths? ...feel kind of like a newbie; which I am

When I have selected a Mame-game I would still like to have the possibility of GameEx showing a picture of the marquee, flyer, cabinet etc... Is this still possible with your solution?

If you are wanting to show marquees only from the list view for MAME, then my suggestion will work. If you are wanting to see all the rest, there is no way to do this in GameEx. If you make the changes I suggested, all that would show at the game level would be the marquees. So, that being said, if you want to see everything, then you will have to live with seeing marquees, cabs, video snaps, 3D cabs at the list level. My guess is that putting these in the custom art path would still result in them showing on the MAME list view.

That is something found under the advance emulator setup. When using the Setup Wizard, you can use Search to find the terms/items we discuss. Good tool to become acquainted with!

To Draco (or somebody else),

is it possible for GameEx to not show "Image2" with this theme (or any theme in general) ?

So I would like GameEx to not show a video in the buttom right screen (see attached picture).

Hope to hear from you how I can achieve this. I've been trying to delete Image2-object in Theme editor but I couldn't delete it. I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong....

In the theme editor, adjust the x or y axis for image 2 to 2000, then image 2 won't show in the theme

It is not possible via the Theme Editor or modifying the theme.ini.

If you wanted a fixed marquee/image you could edit the theme with an image editing program like GIMP, Paintshop Pro etc, and insert the marquee/image you want.

I've attached a little mockup, I'm not saying that this is what you mean, but it's certainly possible, with the above method

Thanks again KRC. I now understand i have to change the fixed backgroundpicture of the theme in the bottom right section like you have shown by adding a custom text and make the image2-object 'invisible' by changing the x/y variable.

This is a solution i can accept. I still find it no too flexible that gameex cannot always show a marquee in the image2-object. A marquee which changes per game in the gamelist-menu and for example shows a fixed marquee in the menus prior to the gamelist-menu (for example start menu or submenu prior to gamelist-menu).

Maybe something for future...?

(More) flexible solution for GameEx to show marquee-pictures and videos in different menus

When I started using GameEx my main point was classic arcade games / Mame.

I began searching fo a nice theme and found one in the "Maximum Arcade theme" (see attached picture)

GameEx only shows a marquee-picture (in the marquee section of the cab) when I select a Mame-game in the "Game-list Menu". I would also like GameEx to show a custom marquee (and video) when I'm in the startmenu or any other submenu prior to the "Game-list Menu". Instead of showing a (custom) marquee-picture in these menus GameEx shows a video in the marque-section of the cab. Very strange and frustrating!

The marquee section of the cab is the "image2-object" of this theme and at this point it's not possible to set a custom marquee in the menus prior to the "Game-list Menu". It's also not possible for GameEx to show a custom video at these menus.

Because it's absolutely no option (for me) showing a video in the marquee section of the cab I had to choose to NOT use marquee-pictures as "image2-object". My temporary solution: I made the image2-object 'invisible' by changing the x/y variable" and changed the fixed backgroundpicture of the theme in the marquee section of the cab to show a default marquee-picture in every menu of GameEx.
