[RESOLVED] Mame showing roms I don't have?

Alright I am lost here and there probably is a simple fix that I just dont see.

So I have installed both MAME and MAME32 and when I open up GameEx it shows me like 11,000+ roms. I only have like maybe 15 in the rom directory. Why is this? Is there a way that I can just show the roms that I actually have installed on the machine?

Thanks in advance,

I ticked that option but it still shows 11000+ games. Is there some sort of list or dat file in game ex that holds old rom info? I deleted a bunch of time on the hard drive and only wasted a few. I selected only exsisting roms and I updated the list but it still shows them all.

Any Ideas?

Oh... I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling gameex

Thanks ProCon! That does provide some very good information for troubleshooting purposes. Hey one other thing - would you mind attempting to run one of the non-existent ROMs (one that you know is not part of your collection), and post your runitgame.bat after having done so? I'm curious to see what happens there.

Additionally it might be helpful to follow step 4B in the How to Ask For Help and follow these instructions to view the console output (this may provide a helpful error message):

One way to troubleshoot a problem is to add the word "Pause" at the end of the Runitgame.bat file. When Windows asks "Do you want to save the changes..." Click on "Save". Next, double click on the "Run Last Game" Icon in the Start Menu. This will send the commands again, but the command window will remain open. It may show an error that will help you to understand what is wrong.

Thanks ProCon!

This is getting really bad. I tried doing runitgame.bat thing that you have listed. I add "Pause" to the end of the bat and after i click save and enter gameex it goes right back to the way it way before i edited it. Is there an easier way to do this?

You can start by changing these items in your setup:

USeAdvanceMame=False

OnlyWorking=True

VerifyRoms=True

Don't forget to update your list.

Tempest, I tried what you stated and it didn't seem to change.

Last night I even uninstalled game ex, went into the registry and deleted all of those entries and well. I have no idea where this program is getting this information. Now when I open MAME it only shows like the dozen games I put in the rom folder.

Ideas?

OK this makes sense to me.

Um, this does not. Wasn't the goal to only show the dozen-plus games you had in the ROM folder? Now that it is fixed, isn't it working now as expected? Or is this some twist of Helsinki Syndrome where you are now sympathizing with the 11000+ non-existent ROMs that initially captured your attention and miss their ghostly existence? Color me confuzzled regarding. :blink:

Oops sorry guys. What I meant to say was that the 11000+ roms are still showing in the Game Ex menu, but when I open just the MAME program without Game Ex it shows only the dozen or so.

That is why I went and uninstalled Game Ex, I assumed seeming how MAME just showed the few I had in there that, that program was fine. For some reason i cannot get GameEX to show just the dozen games.

I should have been more clear :-\

Thanks! Was a little lost there. Can you provide a copy of your log.txt file in addition to a new copy of your gameex.ini file (post Tempest-recommended changes)? You can upload them directly to the thread instead of copy/paste. Thanks!

11:28:11.1 11/24/2012: GameEx: Version 11.52: Starting Log

It looks like you’re running a very outdated version of GameEx. In order to help you effectively troubleshoot your issue I would request that you upgrade to the most recent version of GameEx (currently version 12.91). The problem you’re experiencing may have already been addressed and fixed in a more recent version of GameEx. It will be extremely difficult to track down the root cause of your issue if it’s already been corrected in the current version of GameEx.

Thank you! :)

Thank you so much for all your help guys.

Glad to hear everything worked out for you ProCon! Don’t feel bad about the oversight. It can be easy to fall behind a couple versions in GameEx. Tom is constantly enhancing and improving GameEx to be the best darn frontend out there. That’s why he’s the Hardest Working Man in Emulation™! :lol:
