Hi, newbie here, is anyway to know the roms i have that will work with specific version of mame/mameui? any software that will help me do that?

Hi criveman! There are indeed tools available which will help you determine whether the version of your ROM set matches your version of MAME (this process is known as auditing your ROMs, and accordingly the tools typically fall under the umbrella of ROM auditing software).

For new(ish) users I tend to recommend ROMCenter. It’s a great tool to have in your arsenal. Here are a couple of tutorials to help get you started with ROMCenter:

ROMCenter Wiki

Another great tool to be aware of is the venerable ClrMamePro. ClrMamePro is not nearly as user friendly as ROMCenter, but it’s got a lot more history behind it, and often times you’ll see the grizzled old emulation veterans using CMP over ROMCenter.

Here’s the complete guide to using ClrMamePro.

Hey, for the record, I think the problem you reported here may in fact be related to an issue in which your ROM version doesn't match your version of MAME (purely an educated guess, but the symptoms sure seem to fit).

Let us know how you get on with this, and feel free to report back if you run into any problems.

Hi , im MAMEUI I have a total of 19000+ roms, of those only 8000+ are working ROMS, how do I configure GameEX to see only the working ROMS?

Ahh... Did you read it?

1. Post Your Config:

If you have your emulator running, but can't get it to run from GameEx, then tell us specifically what the problem is, and post your emulator config by doing the following:

Go to: Start Menu > Program Files > GameEx > Setup Wizard

Click "Next Page" , until you see the Emulator Selection screen. If you are using the Setup Wizard in Custom navigation mode, make sure you've selected the Emulator Selection check box on the Custom Select screen, prior to navigating.

In the center of the screen you will see a button matching the one seen in the image below (it's the bottom most button). That's the Export Emulator(s)button. Highlight the emulator you'd like to export in the left hand panel, click the Export Emulator(s) button, and save the file.

Go to the file that you just saved, (you do know where you saved it to, right? tongue.gif ), and double-click on it.

If Windows wants to know what program to use to open the file, Choose "Select a Program From a List of Installed Programs" Choose "Notepad"from the list. (You may want to make sure that "Use This Program Everytime" is checked.)

Copy and paste the text from Notepad into your next post, by using the keys:

Ctrl + "A" (select all)

Ctrl + "C" (copy)

Ctrl + "V" (paste)

2. Post Your GameEx.ini

If you are having a problem with Mame, Daphne, or someother "built-in" feature of Gameex, we may want to take a look at your GameEx.ini, which can be found in this folder: C:\GameEx\CONFIG\

3. Post your Log

IF GameEx "Crashes", There is an error log that may help you find out why. To view it, Go to: Start Menu > Program Files > GameEx > Utilities> Log File

Take a look towards the bottom, and see if it shows an error:

Quote

07:35:29.6 11/7/2008: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup

07:35:29.6 11/7/2008: Launching and not waiting: "C:\Marqueemaker\GameExScript.exe"

07:35:29.7 11/7/2008: --**--

07:35:29.7 11/7/2008: Error: File not found.

See how it says that it can't find "C:\Marqueemaker\GameExScript.exe"?

If it's all Greek to you, (Or whatever language is foreign to you tongue.gif ),

Copy and paste the text from Notepad into your next post, by using the keys:

Ctrl + "A" (select all)

Ctrl + "C" (copy)

Ctrl + "V" (paste)

@criveman - I have taken the liberty (again) of merging your topics as they are likely all interrelated to getting your MAME experience working through GameEx. I will caution you about opening too many threads for the same thing to avoid confusion and frustration for you and the users/staff assisting you.

That being said, please be prepared to do some homework and learn to use the tools that nullpointer directed you. Also, you may have a gazillion MAME ROMs in your possession, but GameEx is going to filter out mechanical and pinball ROMS as they are not arcade games proper and you will find quite a few of these in the newer MAME sets.

Please provide the config files and log files as have been requested. There may be no easy fix until you ensure that your ROMs are properly matching the version of MAME you are running and we have the requested files.
