Maybe I was looking at the wrong log. I saw another one above where it detected steam. Perhaps the issue is there. I am not sure what you mean by loading addons. Is that a message on the screen?

It cycles through loading different things at the bottom of the screen, and it freezes when it reaches "ADDONS". I guess you would call it the status bar.

OK, that sounds like a folder it is scanning. The process is when it is loading and caching emulators. It may just be gameex arcade or steam its trying to load if you have no emus setup.

I was thinking it was possibly STEAM but i could not find an option to totally disable it. Do i just leave the settings blank on the steam config screen? I have a huuuuge steam account, with 100's of games, so perhaps it is Steam causing the problem. I'm still slowly adding options to my working install here and still so far so good, including STEAM.

It might be steam causing the issue. To test if that is the case you could "temporarily" try renaming the steam folder. You will have to make sure no apps are active in the folder. If that's it I will help further if you don't mind giving up some time.

I will put as much time as required into this, I rely on games-ex to run my cab and it not working is not an option :)

Will post on results ASAP, a little harder to get to my main machine now its past 9pm, i dont want to wake people up !

finally getting somewhere, i renamed the STEAM FOLDER on main machine and now it does not hang. I re-enabled GAMEBASE and GAMEEX ARCADE so there was something at least in the EMULATORS section. everything ran fine.

i might uninstall steam, and its entire library, i have a pretty quick internet connection to reload everything overnight. At least it will get rid of another possibility of a corrupt steam folder. I will post on results tomorrow.

Thanks for your continued help Tom.

Confirmed problem to be dodgy Steam folder, seems to be working now on both machines without issue. Sorry to cause a fuss!

Thanks to everyone who helped.
