Updating your games or game images? We need a little more information, please! Copies of your gameex.ini and log.txt file may be in order. Thanks!

To be honest mine does that almost every time as well. It isn't going through your ROMS, it is loading the databases into memory. This will happen every time you start GameEx. My understanding is that it will do this less often in an "always on" scenario, such as an arcade cab setup.

Yeah, like Drac said, it happens at startup. Only at startup. I don't notice it on my cab which is always on. :)

I agree that it is a tad annoying, and probably more so to those that have 101 emulators setup. Better to load them upfront and get them out of the way.

What annoys me most about this is that you load GameEx and it waits until you browse to an emulator before it loads all the databases.

Quite often I turn my arcade on as I walk past to grab a drink, then come back to play something. It would be better if there was an option to load all these upfront at start up, that way by the time I come back to the arcade it will be all ready to play.

I have found a solution, though it may well be a bug so I'm scared to mention it in case Tom fixes it :)

In 'Enable/Disable Features' I turned on 'Quick Startup Resume', it's supposed to:

"Upon restarting GameEx quickly resume to the last used menu and skip the intro animation and sound."

I use custom menus and always exit via the main menu so 'Quick Resume' always opens on the main menu for me but the big advantage is that it loads all the databases on startup.

This is much more desirable in my opinion but I can understand why other may not want to waste time loading the databases upfront as they may be using GameEx to play films or something else but maybe it could be added as an option

When I enable Quick Resume, it will return me to the last menu I had accessed before I exited I haven't noticed one way or the other if it reloaded the dbs or not. It has been argued for both to either only load the db when the system is selected from the menu or load all at the beginning or selecting an emu. I would prefer it to load the db for the system I am selecting instead of all systems, personally.

A while back I had argued this point as well. I agree with Draco that having it load the db on access of the specified emulator would be preferrable, however I can also see the need for it to load up all db's at once so as to allow it to recognize identical games from other systems. The db loading is somewhat faster than it used to be though, since changing the format. It's really just something we'll have to live with until something better comes along. I mean, if you're THAT annoyed by it, you can always chose to not use the db's.

For me I'd definitely rather have the loading rather than not have the databases, The database are what I love most about GameEx and I agree to get the 'Other System' option the need to be loaded all at once, I just think this should happen as soon a GameEx is loaded maybe even on a background thread so it's not noticed. The progress bar would only appear if you tried to access an emulator before all the databases had finished loading.

I agree with you, Stu. While the ROMs and all are cool, some of the factoids from the data really help with the remembering of a bygone time.

That's not a bad idea, except there's already some threading going on anyways. Too many threads will bring lag. :)

You could easily not have the db at all. It'll speed up the process but of course you lose the info for each game. I let er ride and load it all. It only annoys me only when i am showing my cabinet off to someone and i have to explain what it is doing.
