Hi Guys,

I have custom bezels, in the media/bezelv2 folder (mame.png) etc and I can't get them to work in games (always black).

Turned on in options, but has never worked. any pointers? (Im happy to have the same bezel for all games

cheers

I think they go in the MEDIA folder and not the Bezelv2 folder.

The correct path is \GameEx\MEDIA\BEZELV2 and you have to name the bezel mame.png for it to show. If you want to rotate the images that show, you can use a program by Tempest called The Randomizer to do so.

hello, may be you need to look at your "mame.ini" file (look for it, in your MAME installation folder) for the following lines:

#

# CORE ARTWORK OPTIONS

#

artwork_crop 1

use_backdrops 1

use_overlays 1

use_bezels 1

use_cpanels 1

use_marquees 1

if you dont have it, you will need to add them. this way you enable artwork to show up in MAME, because you need to enable artwork in MAME too (not only in GameEx).

Not being able to see your mame.ini file, gonna guess that you may not have told MAME in your setup options the file path to your bezels. Can you confirm this?

where your "mame.ini" file is, depends what MAME you have installed. the original MAME, has its "mame.ini" in the installation folder of MAME. the MAME UI version have its "mame.ini" in the ini-folder of the installation folder of MAME UI. its not possible, that you dont have a "mame.ini" file (its a tiny file, approx. 7kb big). you can open this file with a text-editor and check the if the lines mentioned are inside, if not add them and save the "mame.ini" file. or just post your "mame.ini" content here.

Humor me and put a copy in the MEDIA folder, and make sure your bezel.lay file is in the BEZELv2 folder. I have my bezel in both folders but I'm fairly sure the one you're using goes in the MEDIA folder.

ok, still having issues,

Still no mame.ini, no mameui installed... simply gameex and mame 146

(I have however found [Arcade] Arcade (MAME).ini (only file found when doing a full hdd search on mame.ini) which I assume is the file in question since gameex is controlling it?

Also tried putting the mame.png in the media folder. Clearly its the ini file thats the issue here I just can't find it :(

Are you using the command line version or mame32 or mame64 (GUI versions in 32-bit or 64-bit flavors respectively)?

A GameEx log would be a good thing.

I am using the mame 32 command line (called from gameex)

I will post a log in about 8 hours when I get home from work :)

Thankyou all so far for staying with me

15:47:52.7 5/01/2002: MAME Path is: C:\Emulators\Mame32

15:47:52.7 5/01/2002: Cannot Find MAME Path: MAME Disabled may be the issue :P

still wierd that games run etc..

ill check it out once im home, wife remote support is limited :)

Its because you have MAME set up as an emulator (emulator 1 to be exact) instead of taking advantage of integrated MAME support that GameEx provides.

You need to start there... you're missing out on lots of great features.

Open Setup Wizard, go to MAME Options, and set the options. You may also want to do some tweaking in Advanced MAME Settings.

opkies, set it up under mame (not emulators, duh me)

anmyways

now artwork etc works, I thnk..... I can view the games and launch (shows controls) then loads to 100% and dumps me back to gameex)

latest log attached

EDIT****

above fixed, somwhere between my desktop and the arcade machine I went from 146 to 145, updated and working.

artwork still works..

pending bezel confirmation...i like my chances
