KRC Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Got back from a night out this morning to find out that my house had been broken into. Im well pissed off after my stuff has only just been replaced after a small flood. The thing that tickes me is they only took the laptop, jewellery and some cash. They left all the consoles,pc and all the games, it's like they knew what they were looking for :@Anyway I thought I would let you know incase im absent for a short while Quote
Draco1962 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Damn it, dude! Sorry to hear that! Have you had any friends or acquaintances that seemed to take unusual notice of your surroundings? Hopefully it won't sideline you for too long and you are able to recover some of your stuff. Quote
KRC Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 I've asked around but nobody heard or saw anything, we had the police round this morning and they said they came over the rear fence as the fence was tilting, tbh though alot has happened in the past few weeks. A murder 2 minutes from my door,a hit and run on an old lady near my road, a mad gunman on the loose up the street. For some reason alot of robbery's have happened aswell, I think it's because crime rate is basically zero people are bringing trouble here.Called the insurance and they are sorting it all, lets hope they get the the a******s Quote
nullPointer Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 That really sucks KRC. I’m sorry to hear about that. I really hope they nail the burglar. Please keep us posted on any developments. Quote
headkaze Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Sorry to hear that KRC. I hope that nail the bastards that did it too. Quote
Adultery Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Oh wow man... I know how it feels. Kinda like someone completely invaded your space. Material goods aside, I hope you can recover from the feeling a burglary leaves. Sorry KRC. Quote
fRequEnCy Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Bummer! Sorry to hear that. That's one of the worst things to happen. You always end up feeling so violated. I now make sure do all I can with security to avoid that. What's even worse is that you say they knew what exactly to go for which can mean it's sometimes someone that you know. Quote
hansolo77 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 It is the absolute worst feeling in the world. When we had our fire, we were broken into and stuff was stolen before we had a chance to get stuff out that was salvagable. Cops were supposed to be keeping a 24-hour watch on the place, but they musta been having a donut/coffee break. Stole my TV and PS2, and looked through a bunch of old 1980's Playboys I had in my room. I wasn't so upset about what they stole; the TV was broke and the PS2 probably didn't work anymore, but just knowing that somebody was in there that shouldn't be when the Cops were supposed to be looking out is the worst thing about it. I, too, hope they catch your crooks but fear it's something that will probably just be forgetten. Quote
Adultery Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 No offense meant Han, but when you have one officer for every 5k+ people it's hard to keep an eye on everything. Not that it makes it OK. Quote
thurmansevolution Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Sorry to hear about that KRC....I hope that they find those b@#tards quick and they will be proscuted to the fullest extent of the law!I work in an investigative kinda field, and from what it sounds like (based on the items they took), it seems like they are more intersted in selling it rather than keeping it, so I would start looking through pawn shops, ebay, craigslist...any kind of store or listing that sells used items. My older brother had his apartment broken into several years ago, and the guy who broke in took the computer he built, some cash, and a few valuable items. The cops came and did their jobs, but after doing a little snooping around in the local pawn shops here, we found the items that were stolen and traced it back to my brother's neighbor. Lol, oddly enough, a week before he broke in, he asked my brother if he could help him get a job.Another thing you could try (and I only heard about this...never really tested it), is that you can contact microsoft and give them information on your laptop, and if it connects to the internet, they can come close to pinpointing the exact location of where the connection is.I hope any of this helps, and if you ever need my help, please let me know! Tom Speirs Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Sorry to hear that and I feel for you buddy. Quote
ehuonder Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Sorry to hear this KRC. I been there a couple of times before, and agree that the invasion of your space is terrible. Good luck! Quote
KRC Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Thanks for the kind words guys, still no recovery on any items yet, but the Mrs said that the laptop has some sort of tracking on it, it was a free option when she bought it from Dell.Luckily I backed everything up on a USB flash, so nothing was lost.Invasion of privacy is a b***h . KRC Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 LOJACK!Yeah, so Dell do get things right from time to time. Quote
Draco1962 Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Only if it was properly configured with the contact info and registration post-purchase and the thief attempts to connect to the web. Hopefully that is the case. They can then identify where they are (approximately) and shut down access to the PC. Quote
KRC Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 It was all configured correctly thank god, insurance are requesting for a replacement laptop at the moment as my insurance policy says immediate replacement new for old if stolen. Hopefully have it the beginning of next week. Quote
nullPointer Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 That’s great to hear KRC. I’m glad your insurance company is working with you in a positive way. Quote
hansolo77 Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Insurance is the one thing we DIDN'T have during our fire. Our neighbors did, and they were able to replace everything electronic within a week at no cost. Myself on the other hand needed to re-buy everything over the last couple years one thing at a time. I argued with Dad and his new wife (the landlord) about the need for getting insurance just incase, but they argue they can't afford it, and thus here we are again hoping every day that nothing happens. Krakerman Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Sorry to hear that man. Hopefully they can catch the thieves. I'm a little late getting all my news lately since my PC has been down but that is nothing compared to what you are going thru. Quote
celly Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Ouch! Oh man sorry to hear about the break in. Glad nobody was hurt or anything like that. Computers and tangable objects can be replaced, loved ones, not so much. Keep your head up, if the cops dont find the intruders, Karma usually catches up to them sooner or later. Quote
KRC Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 Lets hope they do get caught and sent down, maybe someone with a footlong can give them the balls deep treatment Quote
