Tom Speirs Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Of the olympics opening ceremony?Curious if my American friends understood the story side of it? It was very British. And we invented the WWW it seems 1 Quote
nullPointer Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Unfortunately I think most of the US is on a time delay for the Opening Ceremony broadcast (at least I am). I'm going to click over for the start here in about 10 minutes (although I may have to view it in increments, as I'm on duty for dinner preparation tonight). Stupid time delay!Much respect to Sir Tim though! And now the sun never sets on that empire either! Quote
Tom Speirs Posted July 28, 2012 Author Posted July 28, 2012 Well, I tell you it was absolutely fantastic so if anyone was not sure whether to watch it defnitly do. We are talking the queen doing a parachute jump. Seriously.. People are going to want it on DVD. Quote
Adultery Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I'm DVRing it, gonna check it out after work.I frickin love the Olympics! My wife was asking how we were gonna keep up with Big Brother After Dark since our TV is gonna be locked on it! Quote
nullPointer Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Don't know if Tempest is watching or not, but apparently Kenneth Branagh just gave him a shout out ... Quote
Tom Speirs Posted July 28, 2012 Author Posted July 28, 2012 I couldnt think why and I just figured it out. It was tape delayed in the US because it was commercial free for all in the UK. It will probably be twice as long over there. Quote
Tom Speirs Posted July 28, 2012 Author Posted July 28, 2012 Don't know if Tempest is watching or not, but apparently Kenneth Branagh just gave him a shout out ... Not that that bit was supposed to be, but the bloggers on that site totally missed the humor of the other stuff. Come on, it wasnt ridiculous, it was funny Quote
nullPointer Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Here's the scene:British Musical Legacy. I'm pumped. The Who - checkStones - checkBeatles - checkZeppelin - checkThe Specials - Right On! Didn't see that comingOpening riffs of - Pretty Vacant - The Pistols - Now we're talking!.. And cut to commercial.Fuck. NBC. Seriously Not that that bit was supposed to be, but the bloggers on that site totally missed the humor of the other stuff. Come on, it wasnt ridiculous, it was funny Yeah didn't think the blog was that sharp either. It was the only site I found referencing Branagh's reading! Quote
Draco1962 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I think I am going to have to "Tivo" the games myself. There are constant commercial interruptions and watching the video clips courtesy of NBC (Not British Chaps) are rife with them and are piss-poor edits with nasty cuts. At least I can FF through the commercials when I record on DVR. Quote
Adultery Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I gotta ask... You guys are proud enough of that idiot from The Prodigy to play Firestarter? LMFAOOO!Thank God for the DVR! No commercials for this guy!A side note: It was a cool ceremony but Japan blew my mind! Quote
nullPointer Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Final Tally: 8.5It mostly hit on all the right notes. Points awarded for Rowan Atkinson, J.K. Rowling, Daniel Craig, all the athletes, and the Royal Family (naturally).Points Deducted for robbing me of the Sex Pistols (for shame NBC! I bet you took The Clash away too), and not one tip of the hat to Doctor Who (C'mon it's almost the 50th anniversary!).All in all, nicely played everyone, well done! Quote
KRC Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Didn't really get chance to watch it as my Mrs had big brother on :@Only saw Malawi and Luxembourg get introduced.I'll probably watch most of it through highlights as the kids take over the TV during the day Quote
Tempest Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Don't know if Tempest is watching or not, but apparently Kenneth Branagh just gave him a shout out ... One of these days I'm going to find a teapot big enough to fit in and take a picture of myself. Quote
celly Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Missed the whole thing. Worked all freakin day and into the evening, didn't get home until 0430 AND I'm the only guy in the world right now who doesn't have a DVR. To be honest, I enjoy winter oylmpic for the hockey than the summer oympics. Quote
Draco1962 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 OK, now can we stuff the Tempest in the teapot? Quote
Tom Speirs Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 By the way I am liking all the new avatars and signatures that have suddenly appeared for everyone. Is there anything going on I don't know about !? Quote
Tempest Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 KRC made them for us. He also made one for you in the very first post. Quote
Tom Speirs Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 Awesome. Just as well we promoted him Glad to see you around a bit more Mat. Quote
Tempest Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Thanks, I also think that answering Tom's question may be the first real support that I have been able to give. The important thing is that I have been able to do here what I have always been good at... De-railing topics! Quote
thurmansevolution Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I watched the first quarter and the last half (pretty much everything besides the athletes marching out...that was during my drive home from work lol) ...I was quite impressed with it - it was much better than Bejing in my opinion. I also heard that it was the costliest opening ceramony in olympic history! :0You Britians have a way of spending money lolThe best part that I liked was when they played Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" during the fireworks finale. Also, does anyone know how they rigged the seats for the LED displays? ...I thought the way they did it was really impressive! Quote
hansolo77 Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I just watched it, finally, last night. My favorite parts were Rowan Atkinson (of course), Daniel Craig/James Bond, Kenneth Branagh's reading from Shakespear, and the cauldron lighting. J.K. Rowling was a nice touch, but not overly impressive, as was the case with David Beckham. The stage/crowd lighting was pretty cool too. Can't really see the 'costs' unless it was all from research/development of technology and the rent of the celebrities. Quote
