@helpman: You can disable it on a per emulator basis, or by adding [NOINFO] to the emulators command line.

@drac: As long as Windows recognizes it as a display (and it does usually) this plugin will work on it.

@ Adultery: I can't seem to get it to work on my single screen setup From what I understood I have to run GameEx in windowed mode and place a checkmark in the plugin manager to use the Game Info plugin. I've done both...

Could you please help me out ?

I got the message I'm not permitted to upload this file. So I've copy / pasted my log.

I think I see the problem > I seem to have Game Data plugin 1.1.7 installed. I thought the hi-score update was installed together with the latest GameEx build which I've installed. Do I have to download your update manually ? EDIT: I've tried to update manually to 1.1.8. My log is still showing version 1.1.7 ?

Yes the new version isn't in GameEx yet. You can get it from the downloads tab at the top of the forum.

It's crashing on the dialog form it seems, try the new version for sure and if it happens again, reup your log.

Hi Adultery,

I've downloaded version 1.1.8 and copied the files to the plugin > game info folder

Unfortunately I still don't get any footer with info about our Hi-Score Competition and the version still seems to 1.1.7 ? . Here's my game info log: (I've also attached other config files)

It's as I thought. Would be a cool thing to see on a cab (or could even be adapted for an additional HTPC display I'm sure).

Nope it's crashing in the event timer... Do you use an ambiance file or does your music load up right away when you launch gameex?

Edit: I see by your ini you launch the juke on startup, so this is a bug in the plugin. I'll add a delay to the juke display to fix this problem when I get home.

I don't use an Ambiance file. I don't know where to check if my music loads right away when GameEx is launched....

Give this one a try, see if it works.This will at least take care of the issue with the Event Timer.

I'd be lying if I said I can't see why your update isn't working, has to be some problem with the extraction of the file. The log should be in debug mode and would look more like this:

Can you do a search for Game Info Plugin.dll and make sure you're not installing it in multiple locations or something? (Maybe you have a GameEx > PLUGINS > PLUGINS directory structure going on or something?) The ZIP gets extracted to the GameEx directory, not the Game Info one. So it will look like this:

Can you also see if you have Debug Mode selected in the configuration? It's under MORE... >> Debug Mode (make sure it's checked)
If you're still having trouble the debug mode is much more thorough, and I'll be able to diagnose things faster.

I've tried your solution and there is progress Not a 100% fix though...

I extracted the content of the GameInfo.zip to GameEx > Plugins

I initially made the mistake of extracting these files to GameEx > Plugins > Game Info ....It was kind of late yesterday Sorry for that.

Game Info Plugin.dll is not installed in multiple locations. I've checked this and I've selected the Debug Mode.

Results so far:

my GameInfo log tells me I've updated Game Info to version 1.1.8 . See first spoiler below. I've also added my GameEx.ini and log.

GameEx however doesn't show me the GameInfo footer. I start GameEx in windowed mode. When I start a game it's however fullscreen. When I press ALT+ENTER and switch back to a "windowed" game-mode I don't see any Game Info footer.

EDIT: when using the Game Info Plugin I quite often encounter the problem of GameEx not starting up at all. It "hangs" during the "Loading Please wait message". I've attached my GameEx log [see log(2) ] and Game Info log (see second spoiler) after I encountered this problem. It looks like GameEx has an issue loading Game Info. Maybe a time delay issue ....?

If youre using a single monitor setup you need to change the 2's to 1's in the config screen there.

From what I read in post #1 I understand there are two main views which should rotate every 5 minutes. The first should display things like Game Title Snap, Game Name, System name, developer, category etc. The second should display things like game snap, last played data and description.

After selecting a game the hi-score table screen and footer are shown. After about sixty seconds it disappears and doesn't switch to another view.

Questions:

1. what should I do to also get the plugin to show above things like game snap, game name, last played data etc. ?

2. is it possible with a key combo to let the plugin show the hi-score table screen and footer whenever you want ? Or maybe even a key combo to switch the main views ?

This may be an unfortunate side effect of a single monitor. There is indeed a key combo to show and hide the footer, and I will hook up the high score viewer in a similar fashion.

If you're not running your emulator in a window this won't push the banner over top of it, it only sets itself as topmost when it initially launches the viewer. In a two monitor setup this is not an issue unless your emu our game runs full screen on both screens. It's generally not nice to brute force the topmost setting if you don't have to.

Did you try changing the threes to twos in the general column? There may be a bug in monitor specific settings. At least so I can see the result, please try that as the default.

Yup and sometime after saving the monitor number I went back to config the plugin and the number changed itself back to 0.

Dude! Loving this! Seriously considering getting small lcd below my monitor to display game controls etc. Couple of q's though:

1. ON your video - there's a bit where it shows Sonic and Zelda game info. Can GameInfo be configured to show custom background for each game? at the moment, just see the desktop with the gameinfo bar at the bottom, unless I press Shift+space, then get the control panel image.

2. Is there any way to set the control panel image to come up automatically, rather then having to press shift+space? I would like to boot the game and then the CP layout come up auto.

3. Also, be nice if could set it to cycle through a number of images - say set title, artwork, marquee paths and CP etc for each game on each emulator

I'm doing final cuts this w/e so... hole for small lcd or not... hmmmm

That's just the theme I used for that moment. You can customize the theme however you like, but it was created to match your GameEx (or in my case, the cab's) theme. The theme doesn't change based on the game unfortunately, but the skinning engine is customizable to the pretty much last degree with the exception of a few small icons.
That's a great request. I actually have code in there for a zeroTimer to leave the temporary banners up if you set the timer to zero via the configuration. I see for whatever reason I never hooked that in though... Probably just spaced it. I can add an option to launch the CP on the game's start-up while I customize the timer to srt your own value, no problem. I'm kind of embarrassed I didn't think of that myself. Oh well.
I'll add these options in a future release. I try to keep my users happy if the request is reasonable, so if you have any other suggestions I'd like to hear them.
The reason I only use the title and snap is because of the plugin system (these are the only ones Tom gives me paths for). Not a big deal though, I have a pretty serious back-end that can snag the actual GameEx INI's config based on the emulator number, shouldn't be a huge deal to hook in that feature. I need to decide more on how to give that customization to the user in a manner that doesn't get too complicated. Maybe I'll do an entry in the settings to override the snap and title path manually... I really don't know how to approach this and keep it tight if you know what I mean. I'll think about it more though.

I'm kind of worried about the size of the LCD more than the fact you want to add one. That banner's gonna look pretty scrunched depending on the resolution of the monitor you wanna use... If you do decide to go for it (and I hope you do, my monitor in the CP of my cabinet is the main reason I made this plugin and I absolutely love how it looks), I'll do what I can (within reason) to accommodate your setup... If you could do it I would love to see a video of it in action just for my personal jollies.

So, you can create a custom theme, which can alter the whole screen - not just the banner at the bottom? i.e. hid the desktop?

Good news on the rest. Presently early stages of the idea - looking at 5-7" lcd displays > another sourcing exercise!! Would hope this size should handle the info - looking VGA size 800x600

No the banner only occupies a small section on the bottom. I run GameExtender behind that. You can set a background for your CP, but if you wanted to hook in a specific image in full screen behind the Game Info stuff, GameExtender is native and it's the way to go no doubt. The title screen snaps behind the banners in the video are being run by GameExtender... This is more made to add to what Tom already has as opposed to replacing it.
