Games don't work anymore?

OK,

I had all of my games working properly but with an old MAme version (from 2000 actually).

I updated to the latest version and now none of them work.

Is there a way to make them work again or do I need to use an older version? I had problems with the older version when using gameex...

There is a program called clrmame that updates your existing roms to the current version of MAME. I tried using it once and ended up screwing em all up and reinstalling them, but that's just me. I just use whichever version of MAME my roms were made for at the time.

none of them is != (not equal to) some of them.

It is much easier to troubleshoot problems if you know for sure if it's all or just some. The roms do change from version to version, but it won't usually break EVERY game, just some of them.

As with all frontend troubleshooting TRY MAME FROM THE COMMAND LINE FIRST!

If it doesn't work at command line, it most definitely won't work in the frontend. And the command line will usually spit back some error indicating the problem, which is often masked by frontends.
