I was experimenting with a couple of themes and now GameEx on my laptop wont boot. GameEx on my laptop is for making themes/logos.

You could try deleting the .mdb files in the data folder then doing a manual install over the top. You will lose any favorites, movie and last played data. They may be corrupt. Assuming nothing else has changed on the machine.

I'll give it a try and report back here once I've tried it.

I had no luck with deleting those .mdb files and manual install, So I completely uninstalled GameEx on my laptop and tried to reinstall GameEx 12.68 from the site and now just before the install its asking me to install mdac 2.8 so i press continue to install, it installs a 5mb file and nothing happens after that, Ive tried several times to install and have had no luck. Now GameEx wont install at all.

Its a good job that its on my laptop and not on my pc where everything is stored.

Edit* Ive tried installing MDAC 2.8 from microsoft and thats not installing either so maybe its a computer issue, but I really dont know what could be causing it.

Edit 2* Ive just tried to install 2 other programs not related to GameEx and they installed fine hmmmmmmmmm

MDAC is now DAC and integrated in the Windows 7 OS, so installing MDAC is not going to help you. You may need to dig into Event Viewer to see if anything stands out. There is obviously something going on with the laptop that is interfering with the Data Access Components for Windows 7.

Not having the laptop in front of me, I can only guess at best. Have you tried a System Restore to a date prior to the issue occurring? If that does nto resolve the issue, then something in the Win 7 install is corrupt and may require that you reinstall your image from the OWM backup disk. Not optimum and not the advice I would normally like to give.

I had to do a sytem recovery to factory settings because other odd things started happening aswell, It was a virus that interfered with several windows components. All is working good now but when I made a backup with the Dell backup utility it never saved some of my folders even though I told it to, I lost all my original Grey KRC Icons and a few themes I was working on. :(

That sucks, sorry to hear that KRC. :(

I've been lucky, never had to do a factory reset on a computer in a loooong time. But I know how it can be,.

Having worked in IT for a while, I have only 3 words to say to avoid most PC-related misery - back-up, Back-Up, BACK-UP!

@Adultery,

It wasn't the loss of the icons that annoyed me it was the effort of searching for each individual system logo in either .SVG or a high grade .PNG format.

@Draco1962

I was abit of a fool though because I recently had a reminder on the laptop to create backup disks. lol. As I never did them this is my punishment.

Experience is the best teacher - and I have to admit I have suffered from not listening in class a few times myself. OK to mark this issue resolved, despite your loss?
