Hey Guys,

Loving the front end however there is one thing that is driving me up the wall.

I have moved from Mamewah front end to this one.

And in Mamewah it would display the correct name of the roms for example.

Mamewah - Aliens vs predator

Gameex AVPe01

Is there away this can be fixed or changed ?

Thanks all :D

Your setting it up wrong. :)

MAME has its own settings, apart from emulators.

Posted

kool mind giving me a hind has to where i can find that setting?

is it in the docs/config.txt ?

Also i heard there was a way to make mame support dual core cpus, is this by default or an option to enable 2 threads?

Posted

Whoa slow down buddy! Lol!

Your initial post is for a GameEx setting. Your second question is a MAME setting.

You need to set up MAME in GameEx first. Try running GameEx's configuration wizard and getting MAME set up.

Posted

Okay thanks, so i have gone into the setup and i am guessing i need to link it to a database,

However i can not see a mame db in there, how can i find the correct database for the latest version of mame?

And where do i put it to be able to select it from a drop down list?

Posted

Like I said MAME has its own section apart from the emulators. None of that is necessary.

Posted

could you be a little more descriptive ?

You said i had not set mame up correctly in Gameex, so i go to set it up there it asks for a database file to show the names of the roms.

Then you say its in mame?

Can you tell me where i should be going please?

To me i believe i need a DB file so Gameex can say well avp = Alien vs Predator and so on

for example,

You need to be in

setupwizard.exe

custom\emulationsetup\ Select DB yes Select DB ?

get your DB for mame 0.146 from X and put it in C:\gameex\data\emulators\

then select it from drop down

When I installed GameEx, it was my first front end and is still my only front end. I never had this issue, as they have always shown the way they should. This may be tedious, but maybe do a complete new install of gameex or reset to defaults. If you go to configurations in the Menus options.. it's the same spot as theme picker. Select the advanced portion and then hit the right green arrow until you go to setup MAME. There are options in that menu to select where information pulls from, ie your files address. You may want to monkey around in there. You may be pulling from a weird file or something.

So its come to stone throwing because you can't run SetupWizard.exe and find the "MAME OPTIONS" category? Really?

Were here to help you, but I'm not your free IT guy who reads every section line by line for you because you're unwilling to since you paid $20. I can't believe you sit on your computer and blame the software for not making it easy enough when there's a literal ass load of documentation on GameEx.com and a search box on the forum.

Perhaps you're right about wasting your $20.

I'm not gonna do it for you. Read the options. Hint: its the one that says MAME.

wow Mate, that was a very poor reaction.

I changed every line every value and your help was someone short for the beginning with no direction what so ever.

I went from the start to the end read all the documentation.

That was the reaction i would expect to get out of one of my kids.

Perhaps my $20 can go towards you learning some manners.

I simply em-plied i would go back to mamewah as i had no issues with it and it worked perfectly.

I wont bother returning to this thread to read whatever smart Alic reply you come up with.

Im sorry that i somehow offended you.

Wish Gameex all the best

I am not sure, because I don't fully no the system. I don't believe Adultery receives any of your $20. I think they just try to help in their free time if you have questions. I have barely any posts on here, but I've had the program for about 6 months. It's the first and only front end I've had. I have no complaints about GameEx and my only questions have really been in regards to MAME itself. To me it sounds like you are having a rom filtering issue. You may have some files from MAMEWAH in your actually MAME folder which are conflicting with GameEx. I would say maybe go even further than my last suggestion. You may want to delete MAME, MAMEWAH and GameEx entirely. I would do an unistall and then look through your directory for other files assoc. with the stuff. This is crazy and tedious, but GameEx would be worth it to me knowing what I know about it. I really think you are just having a filtering issue with the roms or have bad dumps. I've had some work in MAME++ but not GameEx.. this was because GameEx uses MAME, not MAME++. MAME++ is a nice tool to verify roms though, because you can audit them right in the list and it tells you what you need to make it work. There are also rom renaming tools out there, which is addressed in the FAQ section. I have no affiliation with GameEx, but I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I love the thing and I'm sure Tom and others have put a lot of time and effort into the thing. I have a lifetime update membership and consider it valuable. Hope you can make it work.

Hi epicfatigue

I hope you do actually come back around and give GameEx a chance, it truly is the best frontend out there in terms of ease of configuration.

Regarding any advice received ... well we all have an off day sometimes. Our Mods and Admins around here work tirelessly to insure questions are addressed in a prompt and helpful manner ... but they're human too. Catching someone on an off day or at the wrong moment can make all the difference in the world. Some of us also feel a bit protective about GameEx; particularly those like Adultery who put in a lot of time and effort around here. So saying that GameEx is a waste of money will likely invoke a visceral reaction, or read as trolling to a lot of folks around here.

Any hoo, let's rewind. There's a section in the setup wizard called 'MAME Settings' Please note that this is a whole different section than 'Emulator Settings'. You'll want to set up MAME through the proper section (i.e. the MAME section)

Note that ROM names in MAME can be derived from the executable itself (this is how a ROM auditing program like clrmamepro can determine the 'normal' name of a ROM without a database). As far as I know that's also what GameEx uses for the purposes of displaying ROM names, no database necessary. GameEx will build a MAME database when you rebuild your game list, but that database is more related to game categories and descriptions than it is specifically to ROM Names (metadata if you will).

So let us know if you have MAME setup through the MAME section or as a standard emulator (don't do the latter unless you have some very specific needs, and really know what you're doing). If you have done that, then please refer to the how to ask for help post for further instructions to help us troubleshoot your issue. Specifically we'll probably ask to take a look at your GameEx log and your GameEx config (GameEx.ini).

Thanks, and uh ... welcome to the forums. ;)

NP, you brought a happy ray of shun shine to this thread! Yay!

All joking aside, don't give up epicfatigue as once the smoke clears an its up and running properly, you'll see that $20 bux was a steal. More like YOUR ripping Tom and gang off, not the other way around. Now post us an .ini and lets get past this.

Much love Adultery.

Having an off day? More like sick of getting repeatedly kicked in the nuts! Um....

It really pisses me off when someone claims they've been "ripped off" because they are expecting things to be done yesterday, even though they bought it today. If he looked in there line by line as he "claims" then he would have seen the 20+ settings for MAME in the section called "MAME SETTINGS". Does no one even bother to read? We have a whole section dedicated to initial setup! How about Google? Obviously it's not gonna set itself up, but the OP didn't even try, and then claimed the "waste of money". It sucks.

I get that not everyone is as computer savvy, but I'm over people trying to get results by bashing the hard work we do to evoke a response from someone who donates their time for free.

/me over it

Yeah sorry man, I didn't mean to offend or come off as patronizing there. I had a buddy that died earlier this week in a motorcycle wreck, which is neither here nor there, but I'm definitely having one of those days where you realize life is too damn short for petty confrontation ... particularly over something like an emulator frontend. (and yeah ... I know ... cue the violins and heartfelt epiphany overture right? ...)

Guess I'm the one who's having an off day.

Posted

LOL! That wasn't aimed at you NP. If something I said back there actually *hit* you, it's because my aim was off. :(

I was ranting over the OP, not over your defense of him/her or your explanation of my anger at him/her. I'm sorry to hear about your friend... and you're probably right about life being too short. I guess for me I just feel like the work we do isn't appreciated.. Especially when someone like this stomps in waving their $20 around like they just bought 50% share of Microsoft demanding results. Most aren't like that, mind you, and I was cool until that BS backhanded comment about wasted money (which I do take personally by the way).

Again, my bad. The brunt of my post was supposed to go to the OP. I knew right away what you were doing when you posted and I do appreciate your trying to "smooth things over" as it were. I suppose I do over-react sometimes, but it just really "grinds my gears" that people expect that tiny little $20 to be some sort of magical "arcade in a box" where they don't need to put in any sort of work and get mad when they find out they do. It's this damn "gimmie" generation that is making it less fun to help others everyday.

Now, where's my guitar at?

Hey everyone,

First off i logged on here today to apologise for my actions as i was having a terrible day and that’s no ones fault but my own. (most of this stemmed from me drilling into my cabinet and driving the drill right through the arcade monitor)

The last thing i was expecting to see what the help and the apologetic comments received as i deserved none of them.

And from what i read i see how much of a tight knitted and friendly community this really is.

I want to firstly apologise to Adultery, i understand that you would be doing this 24/7 with little or no thanks and for me to give it to you like that and insult something you pride yourself in; and regard so highly, i wouldn’t expect you to react any other way.

Nullpointer, thankyou for your advice i will go back and reinstall and reread the user guide once again and if i am having issues still i will post and make sure i provide the steps i have taken and give all relevant information so i can receive a more descriptive answer.

MNM21 Thankyou for braking the ice.

Just biased on the intentions from everyone here and the help i received even still after being a complete wanker i am going to donate again as you clearly are a awesome group of people who are passionate about this build and are trying to make it better for everyone.

Once again sorry to all those i offended

Well, you did't offend me at all.. I might have been dropping f bombs galore had I put a drill through my 32" LCD!!!! That sucks! I have a funny story though. I found an old coin door on craigslist for my cab. I wanted to get it in just right, so I was using a spade bit to drill out the corner holes for the insert spot. I was then planning on using a jig saw from hole to hole for the square part of the hole i needed. However, I was completely stupid and was holding the drill with one hand and drilling while it was up, rather than laying it down for a stronger angle. Well, the drill somehow caught in the MDF and spun my hand and wrist around. I broke my 4th metacarpal and couldn't use my hand for 6 weeks.

But, one good thing did come of it. My wife coined the name for my cabinet. She thought up Metacarpal Madness. I thought it fit perfectly. As it has meaning to me and you use your metcarpals to play too!! haha. Anyways, I had www.gameongrafix.com do a custom marquee for me. He put "Metacarpal Madness" as an overlay on the 90 in 1 marquee. It looks awesome and turned a sore spot into a good thing. You just need to take a step back and look at the positives. Now you have an excuse to go out and buy a new monitor??

Posted

sad thing is it wasnt an LCD is was a arcade monitor not only did i brake it but i copped the shock of a life time, cant say i felt right all day.

Sorry to hear about ya hand. i wotn be getting a lcd i will get another arcade tube however they cost more then lcds over here in Autsralia.

:(

Still having trouble with this mame list thing however i will try absolutly everything before i add back to this post.

Hi,

We are happy to help you before you burn out trying everything. We are not a read the ffing manual kind of place. If your still having trouble post the log file but just to clarify setting up MAME is different then setting up emulators in GameEx. GameEx has specific MAME support for one reason among others because of your initial issue with game names.
