This may have been discussed before but I can't find anything relevant by searching.

I've got mame installed on a network drive and am trying to set up GameEx to access it.

if I map a drive to it, Mame doesn't show up in the main menu of GameEx. If I specify a UNC path to the share Mame shows up but it can't update the game list.

I can see it's running mame.exe -listxml > \\fountain\mame\listinfo.dat but that file ends up being zero bytes.

I've tried running the command myself to generate the file but as soon as GameEx runs it obliterates it.

Any ideas? Or is it simply not possible to run Mame from the network?

Thanks

Phil

Mame executable and .supported files have to be located/run on your local machine. ROMS, snaps, etc. can be located on the network mapped drive (and probably UNC path).

Thanks - that seems works. Mame on the local drive - everything else (roms, chds, flyers, cabs etc) on the network.

Is it necessary to have all emulators on the local drive or is this a specific mame limitation?

I believe that almost all emulators will require a local instance for each machine. Not any way around it I'm afraid.

Correct, it is a limitation of the emulator. You (Tom) had updated GameEx to take advantage of UNC paths when supported a while back.
