Questions about DOSBox

Could anyone help me out with some questions I have about DOSBox?

I am playing Tie Fighter on DOSBox and I have an issue with the esc key.

In Tie Fighter if you hit the esc key you can check out your achievements and medals and stuff like that.

However, if you hit esc in DOSBox it will exit out of whatever game you are running in it.

Is there any way that I can basically hit esc so that Tie Fighter recognises it, but not DOSBox?

(and if so, could you make the instructions as simple as possible, I am brand new at DOS and programming)

FYI:

I have DOSBox version 0.74

I have both Tie Fighter and Tie Fighter CD Version. I use the non-cd version but wouldn't mind using the other.

I've tried reassigning the key to different keys, and have attempted (but probably failed) to change the programming of the Killswitch or something like that. Nothing I've tried has worked and its getting frustrating.

Oh and another much less urgent and most likely easier question:

I am trying to reassign the plus key to Page Up, but when i go to hit the key to reassign it, i cant hit + without hitting a shift button. any solution? (the plus key on the numpad doesn't work)

Do you have another keyboard with a working + key on the numpad? Otherwise, my guess is that you would need to manually edit whatever configuration/.ini file is created by whatever program you are using to program keys.
