Gameex cant see menus on Arcade monitor but games work fine ?

Sorry for third post in as many days.

I've tried my best just got stuck now.

If anyone wants any help on arcade machines more than willing to share my experience !!

MY Setup:

I have bought a license now as got this all working on my pc, yipee !

Got a slight teasing issue on getting it working on my arcade monitor.

I have a amd 3.0 shuttle pc with a ati9200 card in it.

I have now tried to plug this into my arcade machine using a j-pac with my 15K monitor.

Catalyst 6.5 worked a treat and gameex forces the resolution I need.

I set gameex to use arcade VGA in the advanced settings before I moved it to the j-pac. So on my lcd tv was all working fine.

I copied the shortcut to gameex (MAME ONLY) into start programmes startup. So all i have to do is turn the pc on via remote control.

MY PROBLEM

Then the nightmare comes..... as soon as the pc goes past the windows XP screen. The whole screen distorts lines colours dots everywhere. The screen is absolutely unreadable like its the wrong resolution.

I pressed the player 1 a number of times and in the background it must be working its way through the menu system, that I cannot see ! When it hit a mame game it played it fine all controls working. I pressed the tab key and could select another game but on loading just more corruption, even one I know works. I reckon that is cause its using mame rather than gameex to send the settings.

I found in the gameex guide that you can alter the display settings for gameex itself.

Display Settings

Here you can set various display settings of GameEx.

Don't switch resolution

Don't change the resolution and use the current windows resolution. If set the next two settings will be ignored.

X Resolution / Y Resolution

The Resolution to display GameEx in. Most resolutions are supported. If a Y resolution of 479 or below GameEx automatically goes into ArcadeMode and displays smaller text and is less graphical. For ArcadeVGA set this to 640 x 288.

I managed to boot the xp pc up in vga mode and with the lovely split screen on a 14inch monitor, managed to fight my way into gameex setup wizard. I set

"Set resolution below" and set X&Y to what it says above. Rebooted the pc but all still distorted.I then changed X to 640 and y to 480 and still the same resolution issue.

I just cant see the menus of gameex.

I have it set to arcade VGA theme.

Please help !

It is obvious the games are not necessarily working fine, much less the views at the OS level. As I noted before, in order to help you, you are going to need to review the "How to ask for help" link and provide us with more information, such as the gameex.ini file and probably the log.txt file. You may want to review the link here and start by addressing getting your image issues working right in XP first, your emulator(s) second, then GameEx.

Ok I'll try and boot in vga mode and copy files to usb stick.

To me it looks like the gameex splash screens and menus default to 31K but at at high resolution my 15K monitor cannot display.

I can set j-pac to 31 but it only does low level resolutions.

My monitor needs 15K

I've played a couple of games fine just cant see the actual menus.

I have also set display settings to SIMPLE within gameex display settings hoping it would work but no luck yet.

As I said I'll see if I can get those files off in the morning.

Thanks

I tried lots of different things and all versions of mame I tried mame , Mame32 and MameUI did the same. But then ....... MAMEUIFX worked fine and ran altered beast apart from when launched via GAMEEX. This proved it was a configuration issue, rather than a monitor or catalyst issue. After some messing about this is the solution ....

This is what I did to resolve it.....

Deleted Mame.ini

Then went into DOS and typed "MAME -CREATECONFIG"

Then edited any setting in the mame.ini to how it is explained on

I ran mame outside of Gameex and ran fine for altered beast and rtype. Robocop the screen presented was really small though ?

I started gameex and told it to launch Mame and then just a black screen ?

I went into the Gameex and found settings for the Arcade VGA Card and instead of saying Yes I have one, I said NO in case there was a conflict.

Gameex ran fine and loaded the games fine, yipee.

I then decided to try and fix robocop resolution by running AVRES

However after doing that Robocop was still only in a small part of the screen and Rtype would no longer work monitor would not handle the resolution.

I will delete the associated files and put it back to how it was, I can live without robocop being full screen !
