MAME - Blurred menu screen

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem when I play mame. The games and emulator work fine but when I try to pull up the menu tab its super blurry to understand. How do I fix this?? Im using mame ui32

You may need to give us more information, like the theme you are using, your screen resolution, your type of display - PC monitor, television, arcade monitor, etc.

Okay well Im using a lcd tv as my monitor.. The theme Im using is a regular theme that gameex had already on their config.

If you are running this on an LCD TV, 1024 x768 is likely not the native resolution and there may be refresh rate issues as well.. Have you tried one of the other themes that might allow for use on a higher resolution?

I tried to change the theme and same thing is happening... how to I change the refresh rate?? Im using hdmi .. Im going to try to copy the image so you know what the problem really is. Basically when you are already playing a game and you press the tab button a menu pops up, thats what is all blurry.

Do you have your MAME setup to use the same resolution as your desktop? It sounds like MAME is setup at a really low resolution. By default, MAME should automatically match your desktop resolution. If you are using a version of MAME that has a UI, go into Options>Default Game Options. Click on the SCREEN tab. Make sure the option listed under Screen is set to AUTO, and Resolution Size and Refresh are both set to Auto. If you have Screen set to something else, like \\.\DISPLAY1, then the other options become available on size/refresh. They might be set to something funky.

Also, If you're using an LCD Tv, check your manual and see what the native (default) resolution is for the TV. For me, it's 1920x1080 (1080p). So I have my desktop resolution set to that also. MAME automatically (via those auto settings) matches that. So if/when I have to hit TAB to bring up the menu, everything is crystal clear.

Unless the blurring is taking place when playing a MAME game through GameEx, then this is not a GameEx issue, it is with your resolution settings on your set blurring the menus in MAME. You need to go through the MAME options as noted by hansolo777 and also your video resolution settings in Windows to properly configure the display on your set.
