EMS TOPGUN III

Hello to all

I've just received my brand new lightgun TOPGUN III amazing after intalling driver a bit hard to do in fact I encounter 2 unsolved issues.

1- I can't find to make it works within mame games. It works only within model 2 emulator.

2- the included mapkeys software can't find the gun but it works.

If any of you have encounter same issues please tell me how to get it right.

As far as in MAME, the following switches come to mind:

-[no]mouse

Controls whether or not MAME makes use of mouse controllers. When

this is enabled, you will likely be unable to use your mouse for other

purposes until you exit or pause the game. The default is OFF

(-nomouse).

-[no]lightgun / -[no]gun

Controls whether or not MAME makes use of lightgun controllers.

Note that most lightguns map to the mouse, so using -lightgun and

-mouse together may produce strange results. The default is OFF

(-nolightgun).

I would toy with these switches. I can't give an exact answer as I don't use this hardware myself.

Let us know how you get on, as i been looking at getting the TOPGUN III also for my arcade cab

but also looking for a bit of feedback first before i jump in and buy one.

where can I find the file for enabling or disabling mouse or gun ?

I've spent à couple of hours looking on the net and I still have no idea about to make it works within Mame shooter games.

My mouse is runing in these games I can see that gun1 or mouse is setup on the configuration map for player 1 but noway the gun can't operate.

Are you testing while loading a game from within GameEx? If so you may want to get it working well within MAME first.

To note I use Windows 7 pro 64 and initial version of mame the version that you download from gameEx.

You can add the switches to command line or you can create a config file and edit the switches there. To create a config from command-line, you simply use the following:

mame.exe -cc

mame.exe being the executable. Could be a number of things depending the the type of mame build that's being used.

To answer you Draco I've tested the Gun both launching only Mame and within GameEx.

Same issue Gun not recognize as a mouse.

So just after you will find my feedback concerning EMS TOPGUN III.

1- to install driver you have to use à soft to allow windows 7 driver signature.

2- I can't find how to make the key map software to work but no way the is recognized as well.

3- to use the gun within Mame you have first add the prompt -nomousse -lightgun in order to disable mousse and enabling the gun.

4- just after you have to setup X & Y way in Mame setup menue, first find the line press Enter and move the gun pointing screen from left to right for X and from botom for Y. You can also setup other gun remote as well.

5- I didn't find any way to calibrate the gun.

6- so the gun itself bad plastic very light assembling not realy tought stuff on off remote perfectible works. After several try to fine tuned calibration procedure the gun is still bad on each corner of the screen.

7- games. Some are not do bad : model 2 virtua cop for ex but most of mame schooter are unplayable due to bad calibration.

My conclusion not a real good choice but do we have the choice !!

I'm still looking for good games so if anyone could make advices especialy NeoGeo or CPS 1/2 or modell2.
