Weird Lines? - Gardner Arcade Monitor / Original Ultimarc ArcadeVGA Card

I have a question please:

1: On the attached screen-shot image you’ll please notice these weird sets of horizontal lines which runs in the video down the right side of the menu. I have circled the suspect area - you can’t miss it.

This didn’t just start happening, it’s been this way ever since I could remember, but after seeing a few other MAME cabinets recently I now realize or believe this isn’t normal. I have a real arcade monitor (Gardner), using the original Ultimarc ArcadeVGA card running Windows XP.

This seems to happen on all and every theme I try unrelated to the resolution I pick. Are you familiar with this, and do you know how to fix or adjust those annoying lines out?

Thanks,

Reuben

Does this occur when you run MAME outside of GameEx as well? As I haven't an arcade monitor or arcade VGA card I can't really help much, but if it is occuring outside of GameEx as well, then I would have to say it is possibly a video sync issue. It might be good to know the resolution and refresh rate you are using. Also, you may want to take a look at this article at the Retroblast site.

Thanks for the link -- I have seen that article before.

This only happens within GameEx. I *do not* see those lines in any other programs or any of the MAME games.

This looks like a software video card issue. Ive seen issues with the older ArcadeVGA cards like this before. Its an issue with the card or driver. You have not posted your log but I think you may be running an old version of GameEx which uses directdraw and not direct3d. That does not help matters.

Thanks Tom. I am running the latest version of GameEx (12.45?). What would you suggest I do to resolve this issue? Buy a newer Ultimarc ArcadeVGA card, look for different drivers? Do you want to see the log? Anything to point me in a right direction?

I dont really have any suggestions. Like I said I have seen glitches like this with the old ArcadeVGA cards a while back but didnt have a fix and that was when GameEx was running under DirectDraw. It does look like an issue with the card or driver to me. It might be worth contacting Andy @ Ultimarc. Can't suggest much else other than the obvious.

Fair enough, and thanks for your help. I already contacted Andy to see what he has to offer. I appreciate your help and wish you a healthy and happy new year!
