I want to use Mame 36 as a seperate emulator in GameEx. I have it set up as its own emulator but when I run it, it goes to a lack screen for abit and then back to GameEx. Could someone look at my commandline and tell me what i'm doing wrong. I have tried both the dos and windows version. Both run outside of Gameex.

mame "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

Thanks

Starbuck - did you resolve the issue? If so, please share your resolution as there may be others that have this same issue. Thanks!

It's either a command line problem (which should be resolved with the suggestions above) or it's an incompatible rom/emulator version. If it works outside GameEx, it's obviously the former.

Had to use the windows version and it works with that. Could not get dos version to work. Still don't know how to get the roms names to read as they do when you use mame with the setup wizard. Thought I might use a map file but I need to find one for Mame 36.

commandline that works

mame32.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

will fine tune for joystick etc. as needed

You can use the Arcade database if you don't want to build your own map file. Either way will work, but if you want to see the details (history, etc) then you will want to use the database.

I have a second instance of MAME that I use for rotary joystick games. Although the current version of MAME is supposed to support these, I have not yet tinkered enough to use that setup. Instead, I use MAMEAnalog+ since it has been modified to specifically address the rotary joystick.

I have the second emulator setup to use the MAME database and what I see in the list gives me pretty much what I want, but it's not perfect. Since I have my roms filtered to only show the one best instance, the database is not complete. I did not filter my rotary game list yet (cause I'm too lazy I guess), so I have 3 versions of Ikari Warriors among other titles. As a result, I see "Ikari Warriors", "ikariw", "ikarius" (or something like that...MAWS is down, so I don't know the other rom names). What I need to do is simply eliminate the rotary games that are duplicates and I'll be set.
