The new MESS 144 will not work with the existing map files in GameEX. Has anyone experienced this and if so have you found a solution.

Why would the MAP files be a factor unless the name of your roms have changed?

No mess works fine now with my rom sets. But if I use a map file or change the color as Tom suggested, they won't run under mess. Remove the color or map file and they run fine.

Yes if you use a map file or add the color code the name changes.

Ahhh ok. So the color code is creating issues. I have not personally tried that feature so will have to do some testing. First, a few questions.......How did you create the map file with the color code? Manually or using Map File Magician? Also, what does the name get changed to when a color is included in the map file? Can you give an example? This will help Tom fix if there's a bug. Thank you!

As I'm only using a few roms for each emulator, it was easiler to do them manually. Played with Map Magician and if you want to make a complete new map file, that may be the way to go. Changing just a few manually is alot easier (Map file attached) used a map file from GameEX. When you change a color as in the attached map file it puts them at the top of your rom list regardless of the name. Would like them to stay in the alpha order of the map file. Just adding the color won't let ness run the rom.The name doesn't change.

Reading the latest MESS Docs, MESS references their XML files in the hash directory of MESS. Could this be the problem with the map files. Mess'ssnaming convections seems to be somewhat different then GameEX, no-intro etc.

If I only read the rom directory, MESS runs the game with no problem, Using the database works fine with mess.

So mess won't run the games that are not highlighted when a map file contains highlights?

GameEx won't run a game if you reference a map file wheather it is highlighted or not. MESS 144 makes current map files useless. Other emulators i've tried like Mednafen will run from a map file. But only ones that are not highlighted.
