logik1
I have just left my newly biult machine alone for 20 minutes and the game screensaver kicked in.Thing is, I couldnt exit by pressing any buttons... I'm running off a JPac with no mouse or regular keyboard.Game video was playing on a loop with a snippet about the game at the bottom of the screen. I have yet to recreate this but thought I would post here first to see if this is a known problem?GameEx was updated this morning.
Tom Speirs
Sometimes when a MAME game is first loaded GameEx is busy doing stuff like trying to skip nag screens so the key presses dont kick in straight away. Turning off the bypass disclaimer setting will help.
Adultery
No need for it if you do a custom compile anyhow.

Adultery
What I mean to say is since you use a custom compile turn that feature (bypass disclaimer) off and see if it helps since you won't need it and it probably defaulted to "true" when it was added. My compile forces directinput instead of using rawinput so the new bypass prob doesn't work on mine and I didn't see this happen.
Tom Speirs
It may also be the 5 key (credit) was pressed which tells the screensaver not to exit so you can play the game.

I beleive that I just left it on one of the GameEx menus.
logik1
The plot thickens... I've had the machine playing some movies for my daughter today and the screen saver has kicked in 3 times. 2 of these were reset crashes (pressing joystick left to exit with a JPac) and the third gave me an error log.Possibly related to playing movies, can't be 100% sure but I have definetaly not loaded any games at all today. Also, no coins have been entered either.Error log is attached. logik1
What's the dilly with your log? I can't read that. Could you put a txt up?I can read it perfectly fine? Might be the size of your web browser. Its basically crashing trying to render a DirectX 3D sprite... Maybe you need to download the attachment and view it in an external viewer?I can get the text when this machine is next hooked up to a network, providing its still there? Does it get overwritten?I saw this crash three times in a row and never since then!

Tom Speirs
Im going to need the log in text and gameex.ini to troubleshoot this. What codecs do you have installed? That could be the issue.
Draco1962
I know it isn't always convenient but you are going to need to find a way to port over your log.txt and gameex.ini files as we cannot see everything clearly in a photo image that we need to diagnose what is going on. I would recommend investing in an inexpensive thumb drive and you might reconsider not having any kind of connectivity within your network so that you can remote into your system or setup a KVM. I've picked up a wifi card for this machine so will setup remote desktop asap.

logik1
All that aside we often need the whole log and the GameEx.ini to do any kind of accurate troubleshooting. Sure thing, I've just seen a machine reset crash when pressing an input during the screen saver, I emmediately retrieved the logs but they are not showing anything speicial. log and config attached. However, from fresh boot after retrieving these GameEx booted, started playing a random movie and then, after approx 2 minutes it has crashed with a log. I beleive this is when the Mame screen saver would have kicked in?Perhaps this crash is related to the screensaver kicking in when its playing the initial random movie, when I say movie, I dont mean a Mame preview, I mean an actual Movie from the multimedia directory.I'm using the Shark codec pack.screensavercrashes.zip

Draco1962
You may want to reinstall the latest version of DirectX and see if that resolves the issue. If this does not resolve it, since you are loading random movies from your video library, can you try changing that setting to load only from the ROMs and not the videos to see if that works without error? Draco1962
Well with some luck maybe we can kill two birds with one stone! Or at least better identify where the problem is originating.
logik1
Chaps, with all the problems I've had I simply decided to write my own frontend and media player. This way I can only moan at myself when it goes wrong.Sorry for any hissy fits and good luck with GameEx.Link to WIP video :
