My XPSP3 box crapped out, so I built a new Win7Pro box and reinstalled GameEx (12.15 fresh download), now I'm running into a problem.

On executing GameEx (registered version) I get a black screen, and that's it. The mouse cursor is still active, but it's just a black screen. taskmgr shows GameEx running, and I have to kill off the process to get out of the black screen. Switching themes just for giggles has no effect, verified my config files to make sure all the new paths were correct. I get the same issue if I execute GameEx in windowed mode. There is nothing at all in the log that points to a problem, the last entry in the log is 'Loading last used Game List' and it stops there.

I'm at a loss and the search feature on the forum is not exactly being helpful right now...

So I guess I should provide a little more detail...

I keep all of my gaming software/steam/vpinmame on an independent drive, let's call it e:\

When the XP box crashed I simply yanked e:\ from the XPSP3 box and dropped it into the new Win7Pro box.

GameEx had been working fine under e:\GameEx on the XPSP3 box, so when I reinstalled GameEx I told it to use the existing e:\GameEx folder on that drive. All of my configuration data was intact when I walked through the GameEx SetupWiz. I verified all the paths were correct and double checked things with the 'verify' tool, no issues found.

I just did a fresh install into e:\ but into a directory called e:\GameExII\

Running quickly through the basic config to set things up I was able to launch GameEx out of the GameExII directory just fine.

So something in the original \GameEx\ directory is hanging the executable but failing to generate log data... probably buried deep in a config file somewhere.

Any ideas/clues?

Is any of the data working outside of GameEx that is on the drive you pulled out of the XP system? Can you fire up an emulator and play a game is what I'm asking.

Better still can you post the log and your gameex.ini?

The emulators work fine, mame, vpin, daphnie... At this point it's moot because I mistakenly overwrote my gamex.ini with a default copy and all of my old config has been blown out. I get to spend another couple days setting everything up from scratch again, lovely.

Edit: I was able to 'undelete' the original config and replicated the problem...

I'll post my config and the log

Also, I would make sure you have the .net framework installed, and you may want to take this time to get your shark007 codecs installed as well (if you are using 64-bit Win 7, you will need to download and install the x64 codec pack in addition to the 32-bit).

What's the difference between GameEx and GameExlite? Because GameExlite will fire up with no issues...

Not sure. It's probably a striped down version if GameEx. Not sure if it's even supported anymore, I'd have to ask Tom to know for sure.

Your Gameex doesn't even run properly at stock settings (I mean on a fresh ini)?
