I was looking through the forums today and 2 questions popped into my head, that I didn't know how to fix or create.

Question 1

Someone posted on the site a topic about 3D box art. Well, my questions is about 3D CABINETS. I noticed that they are just PNG files. How are the 3D cabinets made from just PNG files? is there a program so that I can create my own?

Question 2

When I load a ROM to play, I get some error messages like "the ROM is not 100% accurate" or "the ROM/CHD dump is not correct" and "sound/rom info". My question is: How do I get those errors to NOT show? I did notice that there was a setting in GameEx the if set to true they wont show. I have that set to TRUE and they still show. Is there another setting somewhere that I am missing?

Thanks for the help.

#1: You sure these are png files? I thought they were .x files? Or maybe the model is .x and the images it uses are PNG?

#2: Your ROM set probably doesn't match your MAME version, or you need to compile your own version of MAME to skip the disclaimers.

I think that there is some confusion about the 3D box art that was started when someone mentioned seeing something on Hyperspin. They have a thread where someone is taking png files and "animating" them in a 3D viewable swf (Flash) format. This should not be confused with the 3D cab .x files that are derived from converted Google Sketchup files. The cabinet files that are commonly found throughout the interwebs are just 2D images.

Questions #1 -- AH Crap!! Now I have to learn how to compile my own version of MAME. Thanks for the lead.

Question #2 -- I see now. When I went into my cabinets3d folder, I see the PNG files. There was also one hidden file that ends in .x. I didnt see that last time. How are those cabinets made? I have 4 3d cabinets (somehow) that are dkong, puckman, smashtv, and tempest. Is there anyway for me to make those to add more, like mslug or sf2?

#1: Head over to headsoft.com.au and grab MameCompiler 64 by our very own Headkaze. Theres a write up there too on how to do it. It doesn't get easier than that! :)

#2: theres a sticky in the forum and a zip you can download with a bunch more. Don't forget to update your game list when youre done adding them!

Are these boxes in flv? They could easily be converted to work if they are... :D

awesome!!! I am heading there right now to get the download. Im glad its easy, im not the sharpest tool in the shed for sure.

I will search around for the zip 3dcabinets. Thats awesome that someone took the time to make them. Im sure it was no easy task. My many thanks to the person that took the time to produce them.

Hello! You can find them here. Within GameEx site. :)

As long as I can understand, it's not an heavy task once you create a 3D model. The hard part comes when you have to apply every image to that model...

You guys rock!!! So Helpful. Thanks I will check it out.

I am actually compiling my own MAME now. HEADKAZE is a genius, his program is insanely simple.

Just thought of a question on compiling, lets say patch u7 comes out. I grab the diff and go click apply patch. Do I have to compile mame again after applying the patch? I know newb question, but I have never compiled before today.

Yeah you have to recompile. Esentially, the patches are updates to the root base. They're not like patches in the sense of being able to download it and update it. They have to be applied pre-compile.
