I hate to make my first post here a dumb one but such is the way of things. I'm setting up a new system with a fresh win7 install. Brand new registered ver of GameEx with nothing else installed. When I try to play just the games included (DK, PacMan, etc.) it acts like it's going to start then the screen goes dark for a sec and then comes back to the GameEx interface. I set up the downloaded MAME emulator and added some roms as per the very helpful instruction video and the games show up just fine but when I try to run them it does the same thing. No error message or anything, just a a dark screen for a second and back to the GameEx interface. I'm intending on hooking this up to an IPac2 and putting it in a cabinet but that's not nescessary to play, correct? I mean I should be able to just play with the keyboard if I so desire.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums! Something must be wrong with the command-line. Best way is to troubleshoot on your own as it will be a faster turn around. Follow step 4B in the How to ask for Help pinned topic. This will show the command-line window and will show useful info on what's wrong. If it's something that is confusing then please post the outcome of the window after following that step.

Sounds good. I'm at work right now so as tonight I'll give that a go. Just so I'm clear, Donkey Kong is built in to GameEx so if that's my test game for 'B. Troubleshooting with "Run Last Game"' then I should expect to see something in there about GameEx, correct?

There are no games built into GameEx. What you are referring to is a video and not an actual game. You may want to load up Setup Wizard and check your ROM paths within the MAME settings. It is sounding like you do not have your paths set to the actual ROM folder.
