Ok, So, After many months.... weeks.... days.... hours.... of putting my Mame/GameEx cab together with much stress and head scratching, I finally got her up and running and moved into my house on sunday, gave her some nice little lighting mods and chequer kick plates, stood back and gave myself a pat on the back. I have had a total of around 3 hours of enjoyment playing the games I played as a kid, smiling every second! And around 30 mins ago.... Bang!!!!! The monitor shat itself! As you can imagine, i am somewhat... Er.. PI##ED OFF!

Please share my pain and get me through this tough time.

The good news is, my friend has saved me a nice muti frequency monitor F.O.C! So I should be up and running in a week or so.

Counting down the days.

Ouch - I do feel your pain and I don't even have a cab yet. Hopefully the new monitor will exceed the expectations for the one it will replace!

Don't feel bad man. I've had many incidents including (but not limited to):

Power supply failure.

Fried mobo.

Dead RAM.

OS issues.

Add to that the occasional missed measurement and sloppy cut. Eventually things get repaired and the cycle starts over again. :)

It really is a labor of love.

Oh and lol at the topic title! No matter how hard or soft a kick in the nuts is, it hurts about the same. :D

Not to mention that every man in a five block radius feels it too!

Same here.I need a lcd\led monitor badly,im using a old crt now,and since it cant match the resolution of my 42" led im constantly switching from duplicate these displays to show only on desktop 1.

its really a pain in the @ss!

also I would much rather be punched\kicked in the nuts rather then getting a light tap in them.a light tap hurts so much more for some reason... :P

Oh dear. I take it this is only the begining? Ah well. Its already worth it.

As for the the "light nut tap" It always seems to be the one on the right that gets it for some reason.....

Sorry for going off topic :P

Good news! Its alive!!!! My Captain Birdseye lookalike friend has come up trumps! I got a phone call late friday from him, to say, 'meet me at the lockup at 1pm saturday, and I will sort you out with a monitor'. I was very happy. So, I met him at the lockup and he let me loose in the arcade parts bin! It was like buried tresure! I came away with a multi frequency monitor with removable touch screen panel, with the choice of others if this one breaks, a couple of new marquees, a track ball, and wait for it..... A fully working Virtua Striker cab and a Point Blank Shooter cab, also fully working i think. All for.... wait for it...... £20!!!!!!

He just wanted a little pocket cash for the monitor and said I could have the cabs as they were going in the scrap bin! I am going back to see what else i can save from the arcade graveyard. Oh and I should be getting an original 1978 THE INVADERS cab too. It needs some repairs, so Captain birdseye is gonna have a look.

How lucky am I?????? B)

Thats awesome! I get my parts from a guy that does the same thing.... They supply arcade and vending machines to the Wisconsin Dells (which is like a mini Vegas with indoor water parks and themed hotels). The company he works for scraps them also... They buy full kits for their games and have no need for the old ones.

Its awesome that theyre so willing to give! I've been trying to get him to part with a juke that plays 45s for my 80s collection. :)

It sounds like a massive company! My arcade dude just supplies local pubs and clubs. No mini Vegas' around here! They are a 3 man band. 80's tunes are the best.

Just offer him your wife for a night in exchange for the juke! ;)

Lol! He knows my wife so he'd probably pass. They also do all our food service equipment at our gas station. :)

Man you guys are lucky. I don't know anybody like that around here. We just got our legalized gambling this year, and they're building our first state casino right down the road from me. Can't wait to go in and play. Would be cool I if I could get in on where they dispose of old fruit machines and video slots.

To answer that:

Worth whatever it costs! Lol!

I wonder what a cab would cost to ship to Florida? Probably cheaper to find one locally would be my guess.

I could sail it across the pond.

I was browsing my local Craigslist, and there's people out there trying to sell non-functioning arcade cabs for thousands of dollars. Like a guy wants to sell a Mrs Pacman for 2 grand and it doesn't even work. And then further down the list, $199 for a cocktail Spaced Invaders that works. Go figure.

If they are original cabs, they can draw that much or more for collectors so really not all that surprising.

Gotta be a typo, Although, Over here there has been a few original 1978 Invaders cabs, like the one I am hoping to get my hands on soon, going for around £900
