Hello,

Gameex broke it self quite a while ago after auto updating the problem i'm having is i have gameex setup to display screen caps(images) of mame games in boxes instead of a list of names which is fine on the first page but if you scroll down then it just displays one correct line of images and the rest just show a black box

any help would be great thanks

Well, I'm not sure I've understood everything, but as first step we should have more informations. Could you please post here your GameEx.ini and your log?

You can find GameEx.ini in GameEx\CONFIG folder

You can find your log in GameEx\LOG folder.

Please, if you send them as attachments save a copy of them in txt format since the forum will not allow you to send ini files.

Cheers,

Alpha.

EDIT:

Wait! Do you mean that you see images instead of a list of games? Try to select "Change view" in upper part of the screen, select it several times until your desired list reappears.

2.4.8? GameEx is currently version 12.12...

Have you tried deleting your cache files?

Posted

yea, sorry checked ver in advanced config thought it would be the same, then opened log and realised

Have you tried deleting your cache files?

not yet how do i do this ?

Posted

2.4.8 maybe refers to the Setup Wizard's version.:)

Anyway, as Adultery suggested, try to delete all the files in your GameEx\DATA folder that have 'cache' in their extension.

Moved all the cache files to the desktop and restarted cab sill the same, currently updating some of the rom files to 0.142

it was broke before i started this but maybe updating the game list might? fix it somehow after i finish updating the roms

Do you have MAME set up as a seperate emulator? You can also try deleting the gamelist and year list .txt files which are in the DATA folder and rebuild your MAME list

Posted

Set MAME up via the gameex setup wizard no special config for it

Ok.I was only asking because you mentioned boxes and MAME doesnt have a path for boxes since there are no boxes for MAME games.

Have your tried deleting gamelist.txt and yearlist.txt and rebuilding your MAME List?

Sometimes when using that setup it takes a minute or so to find the correct snap.what are your PC specs? if you are using older HDD there is a setting for that.you can also turn off snap best match for quicker loading of images

cpu: athlon 2400 2000mhz single core 266fsb, Ram 2g ddr1, gcard: 1650x radeon ati, winxp sp2 custom nlite build

Thanks for your help didn't mean to sound snappy like, the comp is quite old now however the images dont load however long you wait and worked fine in the past

It should also be noted that we don't generally support nlite or tinyxp builds. They tend to cause more problems then they solve.

Not that this has anything to do with the problem, just saying.

Just for the sale of curiosity, what version wr you on when it was working? How long ago did you install that version?

Thats 100% fact.those builds tend to be missing very important files, usually .DLL's :o

well,

The images that work appear straight away and dont slowly appear so i guess not a hardware issue they are all .png and all seem to load fine on the last row and first screen they all used to load fine when added for a long time before running past updates

i've tried all the suggested fixes above like

i guess somthing has messed up from all the updates over the years or computer resets probably need to re-install a fresh copy of gameex

i wish i knew what ver it was but sadly not its on auto update for a long while and i've been hoping it would fix its self when updating like the os is left alone as its in a cab no keyboard or mouse just vnc <- another problem with game ex i have i'll leave that one tho lol

Posted

So you update each time a new version comes out? Could you estimate how long its been since this worked properly? A month? A week?

Whats your problem with gameex and vnc? Maybe were on to something.

Posted

i'd guess a year since it worked as it had no wifi card in for a long time like

vnc works fine on the cab but not while game ex is running blank screen used to crash gameex when a user connects not a massive problem tho

Posted

Ok so the last build it worked on was a year ago. There have been quite a few changes since then, most notably the change to the rendering system. Whats your d3d version? You are running .net framework 2.0 right? Does your video card need updating?

Posted

No offense intended, but that answered zero of my questions.

Posted

lol yea i know sorry i was uploading for a while wanted to show the problem more

not sure if i can update the video driver without screwing something else up it would prob require installing xp sp3 which would probably fail or screw up the services and registry tweaks running and might break somthing else like the light gun to mouse software etc and might not fix the issue

Posted

Oh man, your problems run deep. You need to update your service pack for DirectX (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and outdated video drivers will continue to be an issue.

Unfortunately situations like this are precisely the reason we don't support slim xp installs. As mesk said there are crucial files missing that gameex can't function without.

Id be wiling to bet you'll fix gameex, but break other stuff in the process. I'm afraid theres nothing else you can do. I'm actually surprised this is your only problem.

Posted

I Have to agree with Adultery on this one. We may be able to get GameEx working right, but if you are unable to update to SP3 and the latest video drivers and Direct X version because of an nlite install, you will run the risk of breaking something else and, to be honest, I would not want to try to troubleshoot the cascade of issues this may cause.
