[RESOLVED] PDF fit to page

Hi,

Is there anyway to change the way a PDF displays. I would like to set the PDF to display in "Fit to Page", or to change the view options in anyway?

As far as I know, it's not possible at the moment. GameEx uses Ghost Script library which is required for the PDF feature to work. Since Ghost Script takes control over the visualization of the file, there is nothing you can do in GameEx. Actually I searched in the Ghost Script forums and documentation for full screen related questions, but found nothing of interest.

I would be more than happy having the possibility of choosing the view (for me the best would be "display two pages at a time"), but at the moment I think it's not possible.

I had look in the config file in gs directory as well, but nothing there seems to relate to it. Oh well.

Thanks for the welcome. Only downloaded the software yesterday. Liked it some much, that I have already registered. Oddly, I thought the PDF feature only worked once registered, but it was working before I donated/paid. I'm using it to front-end my gamebase database and the pdf link was in there, if that made the difference.

I would make sure you have the latest Adobe Reader installed. I then open a document and maximize it to fullscreen outside of GameEx. Next time I look for the same or other pdfs inside of GameEx and open, they seem to open fullscreen for me. Not sure if this is a fluke but seems that there is memory for the last time it was opened. Let us know if that helps.

I don't think his problem is with it running in full screen. It sounds like he wants to display a full single page at a time, rather than have it zoomed in to fill the entire screen, where you have to scroll the page to read it all. I, too, don't know of any way to accomplish this, outside of just running Adobe Reader separately (outside of GameEx).

At least this doesn't work for me. I can have only scrolling view.

Pay attention that, as hansolo pointed out, the problem here isn't fullscreen. All of us read pdf in fullscreen with GameEx. The OP was wandering if you can have the entire page displayed at once (the 'fit to screen' desired option), instead of scrolling it down. Until now I was able to get only the 'scrolling view'.

A limitation in GS, I guess.

Actually it's not a limitation of GS it's how it's displayed. I use GS in CPWizard and pressing select goes from full page view to scrolling view. I just thought GameEx did the same thing. Anyway it wouldn't be difficult for Tom to add this feature.

To be honest, I don't think that I would want to have everything viewed on one page, especially a large document! To be honest, I think that the design is less troublesome than adding such an option unless it could be setup to only view one page at a time fit to the screen. Another way around this is to download either the Nook or Kindle PC apps and load the manuals or other PDF docs into them. I have the apps setup to run as PC applications through GameEx and you can view one page at a time there with the entire page on in the view.

Draco, I perfectly understand your point of view, and would agree if all pdfs were plain text only. But please think about some documents plenty of colourful images, or even some adverts that may happen to be in pdf format. In these cases you would have at least the option to have an "overall view" over the page (like jpegs), and then return to the zoomed view, as and when you want.

I think this could be a very useful option that, just because it's an option, you can use it or just leave it alone, according to your preferences.

Thanks for all your replies. To clarify, it is the ability to switch between a fit page or the current view is what I'm looking for, as AlphaUMi said.

I guess I'm the OP, whatever that stands for. So the general gist I took from that, is that it's possible for GS to do it, so GameEx might be able to do it, if the feature was added.

So, how do I go about requesting a feature?

Points well made. If this could be setup as noted and with features that could be easily and simply enabled/disabled through the Setup Wizard I have no issues with it at all!

finally with v12.11 we have the desired feature! Just press the 'select' button to change view.

Just in case someone should ask, Select in the screen view to toggle fit to screen is the same as ENTER on the keyboard.
