Hi Tom! Am I p!$$!ng you off yet? (*LOL*)

I must be nuts. I love trying to mod everything visible wherever possible... 100% custom to the end. That being said, I thought it would be cool to make my own auto update screen. I just made something fast to test, but if some issues could be looked at I'd really like to make something more permanent. Replacing this PNG works, and once I hammer down the exact location of the progress bar, something really neat could come of this project.

Would it be possible to have GameEx not overwrite AutoUpdate1.png when it updates itself if it detects it? In the mean time, will setting the file attribute to "read only" screw up the update process? I've only had a chance test it once, and it does indeed overwrite whatever I put there. I haven't been able to test changing the attribute, but when I was doing the same for my bezel before it halted the install and put up a prompt. I'm assuming this will be the case here too, but again I can only 'test' when new versions come out. Please advise. :)

No worries. I always share!

I know you do mate as does nearly every one else here. Which is why GameEx and the Forums are so popular

:D

For most of us (well, me at least but I'm sure others can agree), it feels good to give something back. Tom gives us all so much, that generosity spreads through to the members too.

Which is another reason I love it here so much. :)

That update screen matches perfectly with your wonderful BlueBox theme, Adultery!

But what if we change a theme? Even if GameEx don't overwrite the png in question, when we change a theme we should need a picture that matches with the theme, varying according to the theme's style.

In short, my opinion is to bundle AutoUpdate1.png in the theme package, and make GameEx able to read the \THEMES\YourTheme\Autoupdate1.png, according to our current theme, instead of having only one update screen. Does not this make sense?

It actually makes perfect sense. ;)

If that were to happen, bezels should be in there too instead of in the media folder of the GameEx install. Then all these elements would be customizable for each theme.

I don't typically rotate themes too often so it works for me either way. It's a good idea though!

That does sound like a good idea, so i'll +1 this lol, i feel a request coming ??

Thanks for the +1s guys! I thought I was going to have to check myself into 'tweakers rehab'! LOL

That is a great idea so we can make things theme specific.. Since the theme folder contains a MEDIA folder, perhaps if the enhancement pointed to that media folder instead?

Like a 'look here first, if not then look here' sort of deal. It'd have to be in the default theme's folder instead of GameEx's install folder then, right? That's where GameEx defaults to AFAIK.

Yes, this would be the simplest way to accomplish the task...

I had this issue when doing my Dark Champion theme but gave up as everytime I updated the standard update screen returned. Is there a way around this or does Tom need to work his magic on this?

No big deal if it cant be done but would be nice.

@massop: I'm gonna test when I get home, but I changed the file properties to read only. I see there's an update waiting for me so I'll let ya know what happens. My guess is the install will throw out a window telling me it couldn't overwrite the file with three options: try again, quit, or ignore. My solution will be (if that's the issue) to add a command to my startup.bat that launches xpadder which will re-write the file over after GameEx launches. This will do that every time GameEx launches though, so not sure if it's a suitable solution or not.

Indeed it did! No warning or anything. So either Tom changed the updater and it skips it if it's already there, or the silent installer just doesn't prompt me about not being able to overwrite the file like it used to. :)

I need one more update just to be sure of what exactly is happening.

Now on to stats.png! LOL

Thanks null!

I have something in mind, but it might take a week or two to fully impliment it. I'm still in the testing phase, and then I'll get started. :)

Well test results are in. I can set the file attribute to 'read only' and the update will skip this file and finish out. At current though GameEx does indeed rewrite this file everytime, so you'd either have to do the read-only thing or copy/paste it everytime.

Maybe in the future this will change, IDK. Either way I'm gonna whip something up for this and the stats.png and see how that birdie flies. :)
