massop
O.k I spent most of today setting this up in game EX and I have a problem lol.I am using the .lnk method, when I launch a game via gameEX it exits back to GameEX, once I exit GameEX I find that the game was actually launched but is minimised. So I have a 2 questions here.- How do I get gameEX to maximise the launched game? lol- How do I code my .bat to rotate the monitor for games that need it?Runitgamechcp 65001D:CD "D:\Games\emulated\Taito Type X\Shortcuts""Battle Fantasia.lnk"Log17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Opening Configuration File17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: GameEx: Version 11.93: Starting Log17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Operating System Platform: Win32NT17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Operating System Name: Windows 717:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Operating System Version: 6.1.760017:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Aero running17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Initializing Vista/Windows 7 volume control17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Checking for versions of .net Framework installed17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: .net Framework 2.0 Installed17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: .net Framework 3.0 Installed17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: .net Framework 3.5 Installed17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Intel® Core i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz, 3575MB17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: 3.07Ghz - 4 Cores or CPU's17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Running Randomize()17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Loading PlugIns17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Running Misc startup tasks17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Setting Menu types17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Getting Configuration Values17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Using Theme: Dark Champion17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Dark Champion17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Launching HideOS.exe17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Initialising Video/MNG DLL's17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: GameEx will check for media insertion (may affect performance)17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Hiding Taskbar17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Is Media Center running?17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Checking/Creating LCD Registry values17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Check Media Center Exit/Start Mode17:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Media Center Mode 217:38:40.8 06/08/2011: Video previews on. DJ Infinity
Some of these games don't play nice with Windows 7 So far on Win 7 I have tested KOFXIII & KOF MIRA. Kof XIII ran ok for a few mins. KOG MIRA crashed afteer about 30 secs
Adultery
Try switching compatability mode to "Windows XP" and see if that solves the crashing issue.
DJ Infinity
Hmmm forgot about that move. I'll try it soon. I booted back into XP at work stuff runs fine

Adultery
OK, so I got Tetris Grand Master up and running. Here's what I had to do that's out of the ordinary:I used the Windows Games shortcut (*.lnk) method to run these and give them a name that looks prettier.I had to set the Advanced Config to watch the process (game.exe) so it didn't lose focus and fall back to GameEx (since it launches game.bat which in turn launches the game). Since I know these games are made for XP, I also set up "Compatibility Mode" to use XP SP3 on the game.exe. For some reason, the game didn't want to load unless I hit [ESC] first. So I added a SendKeys command to hit [ESC] for me after 2000 MS. Finally I had to change "Show Desktop" to "True".After remapping my keys through the loader, and setting up an xpadder profile (in this case I even set it up to use a 4-way joystick since that's what the original game uses), all works well now. I haven't attempted vertical games yet, I wanna nail the horizontal ones first before I move on.
Adultery
OK, here's what I did to get this up and running on my Windows 7 cabinet:Download ArcadePC LoaderYou can get it from here: EmuCRExtract game files into appropriate folders in the ArcadePC GAMES folderThis step is easy to do. Just make sure you put all the game files in the root of the game folder.Launch ArcadePC LauncherIf you did the previous step correctly, you should see a green check mark next to your installed games.Setup your games and test run each oneYou can specify a few different things here, like resolution, free play mode, enable continues, set up your joystick/keyboard, etc. Some games don't allow you to change the rez, and one game won't load at all on my rig because I have dual monitors and it gives me an I/O error... (BlazBlue)A few things to try if the game doesn't launch: Change compatibility mode for game.exe or launcher.exe to Windows NT (This solved a couple issues for me). Also make sure if you have AV software installed, you set the ArcadePC folder to allow things to run from it. I use Avast! and it didn't like iRotate for games that used it. I assure you it's not gonna fubar your config, your AV probably doesn't care much for the way it hooks your display drivers. Windows Firewall also bitched at me about allowing SFIV to pass through the firewall, since I guess it collects your network data. The jury's out on why, but I have to assume the original machine could link up to other machines.Close ArcadePC Launcher and create some shortcutsIn each game's folder, you will find an EXE that launches the game (for example, SFIV_Launcher.exe). Right-click this file and select "Create Shortcut". Name it how you like it, just make sure your artwork matches it if you want it to display properly. Take that shortcut and put it in a "shortcuts" folder you can point GameEx to for your game list.Set GameEx to use the LNK method for launching Windows gamesIf you set your ROM filter to *.LNK and turn on "Show Desktop", and also set your working folder to the shortcuts folder you'll be golden. Your Cmd Line will be: ""[ROMPath]/[ROMFile]""Create an Advanced Config to watch the processYou need to tell GameEx to watch the process since it actually loads the loader. I haven't fully tested yet, but I think I may need to create seperate emulator setups since some games use "launcher.exe" and some use "game.exe", I'll report back after further testing. If this is the case, we'll have to create an emulator group. Ideally I can add both processes in the "watch" list and if one isn't runnung GameEx will ignore it and watch the other one instead. The other rat in the woodpile is iRotate. Again, I have to do some more testing on this and get back to it. Expect an update in an hour or so.Play the game in GameEx!!!If you followed all my steps, you should be happily gaming. If you have anything to add I'd love to hear it. I'll attach my Emu Config and Advanced Config(s) when I'm done going through every game.Hope this helps some of you out. Although most games are in JAP, they look really nice on my cab. 1
mesk
hmm i didnt have to use arcade loader or compatibility mode but as Brian says there is no "right" way of doing this.and yes,you do have to create a separate advanced config process for each game.when you want to setup these games, make sure you have some time to spare as this is a fairly long processalso there are some "fixes" out there as some ppl have problems with some games.as much as I would like to post a link I am unable to due to the forum rules but I can say that google is your friend
Adultery
It seems to me after testing that if you set the advanced config to watch "game.exe' and 'loader.exe' it works just fine no matter what game I play or what it uses. One config to rule them all! I should also mention that iRotate doesn't seem to be stealing focus at all, the games load right up rotated or not.Now all of the sudden I can't get Tetris Grand Master to load though, but it's the only game that doesn't for me (aside from BlazBlue), it gets stuck on a box that looks like a window. It's not creating the TTGM_Launcher.exe from the FE for whatever reason. Everything else runs just fine, and aside from the loader there's no 'special tricks' required and most games support my WS resolution..:EDIT:. There's no issue when it comes to iRotate, it's hard-coded into the loader and there's nothing to set up. How can you go wrong there? Also this switches your colors and resolutions automagically for games that need it and you can set up your controls once and paste them into each game's folder quite easily. It had to be the most painless way to get this working, and it really only took me 2 hours tops... fight games and flight games. The launcher also has artwork included already. For my money and time this way works no matter what your 'skill level' is. Just sayin...
massop
I love you guys.1 question though, How do I make an advanced emu config that watches both game.exe and launcher.exe? Thanks
fRequEnCy
I love you guys.1 question though, How do I make an advanced emu config that watches both game.exe and launcher.exe?ThanksIn Setup Wizard, in Advanced Emulator Setup you click on the button next to the Advanced Config setting for this emulator. Then in GameEx Advanced Config Editor click on the Process Wait tab. There you add the processes to wait for. Then just save and when returned back to Setup Wizard, just select your saved advanced config from the dropdown.
Adultery
Make sure you don't save over a config you've already set up for something else, especially if you're using one that's already in the list as a 'base'! I usually do a 'save as' and name it the same as the emulator I'm using it for. /side note: I had issues like crazy setting some of these up (most notably sound and no video) but ArcadePC launcher fixes these issues and all games run great for me after installing it. Usually it's a color depth or resolution problem and this launcher sets it up to address all these problems without need of a 'fix'.
massop
Thank you soooooo much, this works perfect now other than the irotate thing but ill look at that more closley tomorrow. Thanks again
Adultery
Is your AV software blocking it? iRotate really needs to be added to your software's 'safe list' or it won't let iRotate do its thing.
hansolo77
How large, in file space, are these? I'd be interested in adding them to my setup, but I'm limited. Before venturing into this area again, I just bought a 1tb drive for my server to store a lot of this stuff. That was last week. Right now, with what emulators I have installed (still only consoles and MAME right now) and the artwork (haven't started getting videos yet), my 1tb drive is now down to 132gb left! Draco1962
I have a 1.5 TB partitioned with the first partition containing the majority of my ROMs, snaps, etc. That is in addition to a 300GB primary drive which houses the emulators themselves Not even close to filling the first partition yet. Of course, I am not running as many emulated systems as you are.
hansolo77
Well, right now I've just got the 1 drive dedicated to emulation. It's only 500gb. I'm still downloading stuff in the background on the server, which is why that new drive is already full. My working plan is to download on the server, organize it for storing, then copy over everything I need as I have time/room for it. Everything is all on it's primary 500gb partition. I know this is a no-no, since partitioning is helpful in elminating data lost, and helps speed defragmenting; however...I don't really feel like repartitioning now. Perhaps, some day, I can afford a larger drive again. And instead of putting it into the server, I'll stick in the HTPC and move all these things around to new partitions. Maybe something like 1 partition for MAME, 1 for Consoles, 1 for Computers, 1 for HandHelds, 1 for Pinball, and 1 for all the extras. UHG. Do they still make partition magic? starbuck
I running in excess of 200 emulated systems including MAME, MESS etc.. I have these on 4.5T of external harddrives. I have all the snaps, videos etc. from Emumovies on these drives and all the roms. On dvd's and cd's I have another 2T of CD based games. The biggest problem is not getting HD space because costs have gone way down. The problem becomes the more space you use up the slower the system runs. Draco1962
Yes they do. It may not be needed as it appears that the Disk Management utility handles quite a few of the same features as Partition Magic within Windows 7.
hansolo77
Well, with Partition Magic, you could repartition on the fly without loosing any data stored on it.

griggs619
OK, here's what I did to get this up and running on my Windows 7 cabinet:Download ArcadePC LoaderYou can get it from here: http://www.emucr.com/2011/08/arcadepc-loader-v12.htmlExtract game files into appropriate folders in the ArcadePC GAMES folderThis step is easy to do. Thanks for the guide Adultery it's very detailed and helpful. One issue i'm having though. On some games it will load the game fine but when i hit ESC key to exit for some reason my resolution is messed up being changed to 1280 x 720 and i have to manually change it back to 1920 x 1080 from the windows display control panel. i'm am running windows 7 64. its doing this for most games but not all. Battle Fantasia is one game that seems to work fine when i exit yet SFIV i have to manually change the resolution back to normal? is anyone else having this issue? p.s. i'm doing all testing with the ArcadePC Loader. I'm not running through Gameex yet because i haven't gotten that far. I'm wanna figure out this resolution issue before i set the games up in Gameex.
