mesk Posted July 16, 2011 Author Posted July 16, 2011 Wait, what? Holy balls that's cheap!LOL yup insanely cheap.that same bundle goes for 3 change on tigerdirect.off topic:someone found a Mortal Kombat 1 PCB "nifty kombo" modded board that most likely will be dumped and added to MAMEhttp://testyourmight.com/forum/content.php?1437-Mortal-Kombat-Nifty-Kombat-Arcade-Board-FOUND! Adultery Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Craigslist?/me jealous!Would be cool to have a dev machine like that for non-gaming purposes. Can't let my computer be upstaged by the cab! Haha! Quote
mesk Posted July 16, 2011 Author Posted July 16, 2011 going from p4 to that in cab will be a huge step up,I do have another pc in house (core duo) but its more of a family PC,my gf,mother, father wouldnt be to happy if they went to use the PC (the few times they actually do) and find it in a old arcade cab though its crossed my mind more then a few times!once I was going to switch it with the p4,but htey would have noticed Quote
celly Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I must has one of thems.... Newegg? Congrats on your smokin deal! Quote
Adultery Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 The fam's is a P4 but it just seems so ssslllooowww compared to the rig, and that's only got 2 gb ram and it's not even dual channel! They can have that. All they ever do is watch annoying orange on youtube and play roblox anyways. The wifey's got a netbook with an atom and that's plenty fast enough for her to read the daily paper and do her facebook on. As long as they're contained they'll stay off my lappy! Quote
mesk Posted July 16, 2011 Author Posted July 16, 2011 Yea the p4 is showing its age, though the last line of p4's the ones that use socket 775 arent that bad, especially the HT ones.My cab p4 is a 3.6 HT and I could run all the way up to dreamcast games on it (not all usually the less demanding ones)but everything under dreamcast runs smooth.I have been thinking of doing a classic console cab, with multiple different console controllers, instead of the usual joystick setup.it would be like a nes vs cab,the snes box cab,and the one sega made and threw a genesis in to compete with N.I have always wanted a cab to show the history of consolesUPDATE:in regards to that nifty combo MK1 board it seems someone already dumped that board "years ago" but didnt know MAME needed it! D'uh someone just dropped $320 USD on that board!D'UH READ ABOUT IT HERE Quote
Draco1962 Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Nice deal! I think if the most they do is surf the web, check email, and watch the occasional YouTube vid, the P4 oughta be plenty for them! BTW, are you going for Windows 7 X64 on the cab or sticking with XP? Would be a shame to waist the extra processing pipeline that Win 7 X64 will avail to ya! Besides, XP will not recognize 8 GB of RAM (4 max for x386 version). Quote

Draco1962 Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 No disagreement from me there. I have a P4 that is currently acting as a file server using Server 2003. It will likely become a cab PC one day as I plan to build a dedicated HTPC to handle the more recent emulations as well as audio and video streaming chores. I will probably dedicate the P4 to run MAME, Daphne, first and second gen consoles/handhelds, and Pinball on it when that day comes with XP Pro as the OS of choice for it. Quote
Adultery Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Pinball never ran well enough for me to get serious about until I stepped up to a dual core. Even a split second of glitch or lag is enough to ruin a heated pinball game. The old p4 just wasn't up to the task for me, and was actually the reason I finally decided to beef up the cabinet. You have been warned! On a side note, XP has always done a great job in my cab, but I'm not running 8GB of RAM either! Also was thinking about building an HTPC. Anyone play with one of the Antec Fusion boxes? I thought it looked pretty pimp. Quote
Draco1962 Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Well just shoot my plans to Hell. Thanks, Buddy! LOL! Quote
Adultery Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Sorry, but know how it feels to fire up 'Funhouse' and have the screen stop just long enough to hear the sound of the ball drop down the middle chute. Frustrating to say the least! Quote
Kustom Kid Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Also was thinking about building an HTPC. Anyone play with one of the Antec Fusion boxes? I thought it looked pretty pimp.I think for the money Silverstone cases are better. I've never messed with either, but I did a ton of research on them and the Silverstone cases offered a lot of nice features for the same money as the Antec cases. I ended up going the cheap route and getting a CoolerMaster 360 Elite as my 2 year old likes to destroy everything he gets his hands on. Quote
Adultery Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 They do look nice, but on Newegg I didn't see one with an LED panel in front in the same price range. That was the thing that really made me consider it. I got a $50 gift credit from there and $149 seems to be the wife's 'sweet spot'. After the board, hdd, blu-ray burner/3d player, cpu, ram, and software, I may never drum up enough to justify it... probably take a year to build it!My kids are old enough to know better though, so no worries there (thank God!) Quote
Draco1962 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Ok, Grasshopper... do you want to know how to grab the pebble from the Master's hand? Find the case you are looking for along with the mobo, CPU, ram, HDD, GPU you are looking for. If you are like me, you probably have an extra DVD-RW laying about. Get that built! "Honey, it looks like this is gonna work out great, but would be really great if we could play Blue Ray disks on it..." "I found some really sweet software on the web, but it doesn't quite work as I expected or need it to..."Next, add the blue ray burner, and software (likely the items putting you over budget)! Now let any guy on this forum tell me that they have never, ever done this before and I will call them either a liar or an ugly virgin! Quote
