  1. I thought I would attempt to post a step by step (somewhat at least) detail of my cabinet build. Maybe people will see something in this that helps them with their future build. I've learned a bit more since my build and I've changed a few things too. My first step was .... I knew I wanted to build an arcade cabinet.. But how. I turned to a book called "Project Arcade." The book helped me a out great deal and it helped me in avoiding my first mistake. DON'T BUILD A CABINET THAT YOU CANNOT GET THROUGH YOUR DOORWAYS! haha http://www.amazon.com/Project-Arcade-Build-Machine-ExtremeTech/dp/0764556169 Ok, I knew I wanted a 4 player cabinet, because two of my favs were 4 players. TMNT and NBA JAM. I decided the best thing to do would be to build the control panel first and then build the rest of the cabinet around the panel. I made a cardboard design of the top of the panel first. I made the template and used the exact dimensions for each item, joystick, trackball, push button, etc.
  2. A few years ago, I build an Arcade machine. Inside is a Windows 10 build 20H2, it’s configured with 2 joysticks and 2x12 buttons. I choose Gameex Arcade Edition as frontend. Now, during corona lockdown, I felt it was time for a bit of tiding up. So, I started all over. GameEx Arcade Edition 16.74. MAME 0.229b 64b bit. Nothing else. Everything worked – I thought. I can play every game and the controls seems to work as they should. When I hit the Joystick Exit buttons as defined in “Global Exit” there is a problem. First of all, they seem to react much slower than in my previous installation. But the real problem is that it does NOT shut down the MAME game I was playing. Global Exit does return me to Gameex Arcade, and I can start a new game. But the one I started with, is still running in the background. When I exit Gameex Arcade I find to programs running. One black cmd-windows with the text: “Active code page: 65001”, and secondly the MAME game itself. When I kill the cmd-windows the MAME game disappears. If I kill the MAME game, the cmd-windows disappears. So, I guess I’ve made some kind of faulty setup. Any idea on how to make a correct Global Exit that kills the MAME game. Included log of latest attempt to play and exit asteroid. Afterwards I stopped asteroid as described. BUR, Denmark log.txt GameEx.ini
  3. M&P Amusement put together a nice arcade timeline dating all the way back to original skee-ball. Check it out!
  4. I've been working on a MAME.xml that contains every vertical game (Parent only) for my PinballX setup. Only games with the Driver marked good (Green status) have made it in thus far. In the coming days, I'll continue on adding imperfect games/drivers Feedback is welcomed and Enjoy! http://imgur.com/TFMYi1s http://imgur.com/9yhXFOq MAME.zip

  6. Hello all! Hope you are guys are having an awesome day. I have a question on the GameEx screensaver: is there any way to limit it to one game, or a small list of games that would not be the Favorites list? I haven't seen the Setup Wizard for a while now, so I think there was an option to restrict it to only Favorites there, but not a single game or a list... Anyways, any help would be much appreciated! Cheers! Sebastian1314

  8. Wondering which console and handheld games play well on a cab or using an arcade stick? Want to know what type of arcade controls can be used with each game? Want to browse or contribute setup notes for games? This is a small project I've set up to try and collate peoples' experience with setting up console games on arcade cabs. Users can contribute games onto this 'database' and share with others their ratings for ease-of-setup and a game's suitability for a cab. I found myself in the position of finishing (ish!?) my cab, but then found I wasn't sure which were the best games to put onto it. Peoples' recommendations were dotted all over forums, so thought I'd invite the marvelous cab + arcade building community to contribute to this centralized repository. Features: Star ratings for various featuresSort games by various columnsFilter results by platform, game type, type of cab controls etc.Links to more detailed setup notes such as plugin settings for the game etc....Screenshot: I'll be contributing as I go along, finding games that play well on my cab. Would be great if others could add their recommendations too. Click this link here to go to the page: https://sites.google.com/site/alienarcade74/top-console-to-cab-games Click this link to go direct to the contribution form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1hIFwO3gF3ekK-heudoEAZhq5Q_bCOgxEh0aJ3qMIlj8/viewform?entry.2133690561=magomame&entry.1202225771&entry.362976823&entry.1053481385&entry.774449246&entry.2013513245&entry.283837065 I'll also be posting in this initial post the Top 10 Games for cabs as the database changes. Hope you guys can help out!!! Oh and feedback welcome!!! Top 10 Games for Arcade Cabinets To follow when got 10 games on the list!!

  11. Hi everybody ! Do you love to play Arcade / Mame classics like Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede and Mario Bros. ? You're more than welcome to join the official GameEx Hi-Score Competition The more the merrier ! It's easy and simple to join 1. Choose a game from any of our Hi-score game threads 2. Read post #1 of the hi-score game thread to make sure you're using the correct game settings (always use 1 credit) 3. Play your game and post a screenshot of the score you earned. To make it even more easy > we have created a small guide for "Changing your game settings" and "Making a printscreen of your hi-score screen". Each hi-score game can be played constantly and even if it's not a HIGH score, you can still submit it and get points for our Leaderboard. Games We now have several games to choose from. Each month new games will be added Because we like to add games to our hi-score competition - which YOU love to play - we kindly ask you to cast your vote in our Polls. Please cast your vote in our last created poll: "5 new games to play !" I hope you'll be excited to join our Hi-Score Competition. You're more than welcome GC and HAN NEW: Game Info Add-on Adultery, our Database specialist, has created a very nice hi-score feature for his Game Info Plugin When you select a game which participates in our Hi-Score Competition GameEx will show an image with the game's hi-score table. See screenshot below: This plugin is initially created for those who have a secondary monitor. It can however also be used on a single monitor, running GameEx in windowed mode and changing the screen settings to "1" in the Game Info Plugin - Config screen.* Download the latest plugin here * For info about setting up the Game Info Plugin please click here
  12. Hi everybody, we would like to welcome you to our new GameEx Hi-Score Competition ! You're more than welcome to join our competition ! # New Hi-Score games Because we would like to add games to our hi-score competition - which YOU love to play - we kindly ask you to cast your vote in our Polls. Game of the Month Poll Each month we have a Game of the Month Poll. The most voted game will become "Game of the Month" and will be added to our hi-score competition. You can still cast your vote for "Game of the Month - June" > link Extra Games Poll We also create additional polls to add new games to our competition. In this poll everyone can choose their 5 favorite games and the top 5 voted games will be added to our hi-score competition. You can now choose to not only compete for one specific game but you can also try to become our best Hi-Score player A newcomer to our competition has the same chances for a good leaderboard-position as someone already playing our Hi-score competition for a while. Each hi-score game can be played constantly and your hi-score position on each game determines your Leaderboard total. A Hi-Score Game of the Month has the same rules and points scoring system as any hi-score game. However, after each month the results will be published in our Game of the Month Winners thread and the winner will also be rewarded with a 'champion banner' to add to their signature. After each month the previous "Game of the Month" will become a regular hi-score game and can be played constantly. You can check - at any moment - your leaderboard total by simply adding up the individual points of your current hi-score game positions. # Joining our Hi-Score Competition When you want to join our competition and submit a hi-score we kindly ask you to use our default game-settings (see post #1 of each game-thread), only use 1 credit per game and submit a screenshot of your hi-score screen. 13. Hello Draco, Maybe you - as administrator - could help me out. It may be a bald request but it would mean the world to me and I think everybody who loves to play in our GameEx Hi-Score competition. As you already know I have - together with Hansolo - setup a Hi-Score Competition in the Social Club forum (a thank you also goes out to MNMax21 for getting us enthusiastic with his Mario Bros. thread ). With input of Hansolo I came up with "hi-score submitting rules" and both me and Han are and will be creating the hi-score game threads and keeping the Hi-Score Table of each game up to date. We and others are really excited about this competition and would like to take it one step further. Please let me explain... Right now Galaga is the Hi-Score game of May 2013. On June 1st the thread "Hi-Score Competition - May 2013" will be changed back to Hi-Score Competition - Galaga so everyone can still submit their score for Galaga. We're planning to create a leaderboard(thread) - great idea by Rtkiii - where points can be earned per game. Having a 1st position on Galaga will for example represent 100 points. Per player points will be accumulated for each game and thus a leaderboard will be created. Having a leaderboard is only fun when there are more games to choose from and not just one game per month. I know you've said you don't like the Social Club to be swamped with Hi-Score threads. And I do understand this. But I kindly ask you to again consider a great alternative: creating a hi-score subforum. Our love for playing Mame/Arcade-games was and is for a lot of us an important reason why we use such a great frontend as GameEx. So having our own friendly Mame hi-score competition subforum is rewarding those enthusiastic members and will possibly attract potential new members of GameEx. DazzleHP and Hansolo and me have therefore talked about the possibility of creating a hi-score subforum and possibly having me and Hansolo as dedicated mods for that forum so we can edit each other's threads and keeping the hi-score tables of each game up to date. Having all the hi-score threads in one place will also prevent swamping the Social Club. Because we want to create a hi-score leaderboard(thread) there should be a possibiliy to compete for hi-scores at multiple games and a hi-score subforum is something we really need for this. This will result in a well constructed hi-score competition and prevent having the Social Club swamped with hi-score threads. Again, it would mean the world to me and everybody who loves to play Mamegames and play in our GameEx Hi-Score competition if you could create such a subforum. Kind regards and I hope to hear from you, GimmeClassics
  14. I was wondering...: A lot of the themes created now are made for a 1920x1080 HD setup. Those are great but...: when building a Cab a 4:3 (non-wide)screen is still the most common to use, right? So why are there less themes created for arcade cabs? I presume a lot of you guys use GameEx because of having (future) plans to build a cab or maybe already have one. 4:3 themes do fit the bill better in that scenario right? Love to hear the communities reaction on this Thanks, GC
  15. I represent a group that is seriously looking into putting together a California Extreme style (though smaller) arcade & pinball convention in Phoenix, AZ. We already host an annual con (KoL Con) and we've been consulting with Dann Frank, one of the administrators of the Wild West Pinball Convention that took place back in the 90s, so we've got the chops to make this happen. Right now we're putting out feelers to see who'd be interested in attending, but more importantly who'd be willing to put up some of their pinball and/or arcade games for a weekend. Thanks, and spread the word!
  16. Hello to all! First off, thank you all for all the hard work so far! I have no idea where I would be at if it wasn't for all your help thus far. Now for the question, lol - I've been stuck on something for a little while, and hoping someone can answer this for me, or point me in the right direction (I've been trying to look up this information on the web, but no luck so far). CPWizard is awesome!! I have it set up for use with MAME right now, and for the past few days, I've been trying to figure out how to also set it up to use with the other emulators (N64, SNES, NES, etc) to where all games in my cab, when chosen, will display the control panel before the game launches. Is this possible? And if so, how do ya set it up? Thanks in advance!! LC
  17. Article on ARSTechnica about the "The surprising, stealth rebirth of the American arcade." I think they kinda missed the mark a little. When I see the economy as it is within the U.S., it is very reminiscent of the uncertainty regarding the state of the economy and politics during the early 80's. I love the idea of the classics having a rebirth.
