  1. Hello GameEx Staff , The following video will show you the bug. Please pay attention to the corners and the big update title in the marquee. GameEx_Arcade_All Arcade Games_60_60_ 2024-11-06 15-19-59.mp4 I am sorry for the big video, but it is needed to better visually see the bug. So what is happening here: We are in the MAME-Categories-submenu. A video was picked (via Theme-editor and the video-option menu) as background for the MAME-Categories-submenu shown here. The picked video contains all theme elements (arcade cab, menue, bars etc. BUT on a black background). If you now choose a category, then a video is shown that is related to this genre. This video uses image-field 1 from the theme editor and is set to full screen resolution. This video also contains all theme elements, but this time it has a genre related background included. So if you scroll through the list, the entire screen will change and adapt to the choosen genre. So far so good, but if you switch from one genre to another, then there is a time gap, that is filled with the video that we have chosen as the background for the MAME-Categories-submenu and here you will see that this background-video is slightly overscaled, probably just by only 1%, but it is noticeable. It is bigger then the image-field 1 video, which should not be the case. This is also bad for the image-quality of the video, as it is not shown in its native resolution. This results in a slightly blurred video, losing its sharpness and including artefacts. You can notice the degrading in carefully observing the area around the joysticks in the video. Summarize: There is something wrong in the theme-editor video-option menu and it has to do with scaling. Any video you choose here, will be displayed as a full size background, slightly overscaled and not in his native resolution. Any video that you set for the image-field in the theme editor, is properly displayed. If you set the image-field 1 properties to the native resolution of the video, then it is shown as this. Any questions? Feel free to ask . GameEx ini and log files attached. log.txt GameEx.ini
  2. Some might prefer the excellent table audio files from gStAv https://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/13893-table-sound-when-browsing-tables in both PinballX Wheel & Attract modes, but if you want to additionaly / optionally play a selection of music files and/or videos in the PinballX front end then read on as this plugin might be for you.. What Does It Do Using Windows Media Player (WMP) the plugin will let you play media files from a specified folder whilst in PinballX. It will pause playback when tables are selected and then resume on table exit, or just on entry and exit of Attract Mode. Although originally intended as a music only player, it uses WMP and as that can also can also play videos i added an optional visible WMP window. The default mode is audio only, but if displaying a WMP window then that is hidden when playback is paused. So is it a Jukebox? V1 No - but if want to play random media (music or video) when you wander away from the cabinet for a few minutes (i.e. PinballX Attract Mode starts) then you can, or you can have them playing all the time whilst in wheel mode. V2 In PinballX Attract Mode? - Pretty much yes (depending on your definition), same as V1 outside PinballX Attract Mode. To Use The Plugin 1/ download the attached zip and extract the files into your PinballX\Plugins\ folder (use PBXMediaPlayerV2_1_1.zip for pinballx v3.47 and later) 2/ Unblock the files if required (https://www.limilabs.com/blog/unblock-dll-file) 3/ Open PinballX\PluginManager.exe, enable the Media Player plugin. 4/ Still in PluginManager, Select the Media Player plugin and click Configure. You'll get a message first time while an ini file is created for the plugin (in the Plugins folder). 5/ Optional - If you intend to use a visible player then you may also want to install the BackGlass Skin.zip (see https://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/22325-plugin-pinballx-media-player/?do=findComment&comment=187793) After this the plugin is enabled and will be configured with default values as screenshot below. If you want to view / change the configuration information, go through PluginManager Configure again. The screen below should show. Hopefully the options are fairly self-explanatory, but a brief description follows.. Media Location - Click the ... button to browse and select a media folder Include Sub Folders - Checkbox, check if your media is nested in sub folders under the main location Volume - Slider bar. Exit Table / Enter Attract Mode Behaviour - Resume last file from where it was left on table selection, or start next Shuffle - Checkbox, select to play media in random order Attract Mode Only Playback = Checkbox, check to disable playback in manual wheel navigation Launch Visible Media Player Player opens in own window - Checkbox, if not checked the plugin will play audio only regardless of content. Check this box if you want a visible window displayed in 'Now Playing' view. Fullscreen - Checkbox, select if you want windows media player to open in fullscreen mode Tips PinballX Audio For Attract Mode only media playback try muting PinballX in Attract Mode (PinballX Settings -> Attract Mode -> Mute Audio = Yes). If you're not running the plugin in Attract Mode only (so always on when in the PinballX Wheel) you may want to back up and then remove normal PinballX audio files, like Startup Sounds & Table Audio to avoid multiple sounds playing over each other. Audio Volume If playing with no visible WMP window then this will control all PinballX volume as the plugin is using an internal player, however if using a visible window it will control the volume of the media you're playing only (PinballX audio level will not be affected) Visible Player Best suited for cab owners with > 1 screen Open Windows Media Player on its own first, switch to the Now Playing view (bottom right of screen) then move / position & resize the player on to the screen you'll want it visible on. Right click on it and select Always Show Now Playing On Top. Right Click again and select the view you want for music files (if not playing video) visualisations etc. Close the player and it should default to those settings when opened by the plugin, although the window may resize automatically for video playback if fullscreen is not selected. Visible player is not compatible with PinballX Fullscreen exclusive, in PinballX display settings set Full Screen Windowed = Yes Additional Notes For Version 2 (Requires PinballX V3.47 or later) Adds Attract Mode media navigation for skipping tracks, playback modes and playlists. New functions are available ONLY if PinballX is in Attract Mode. Navigation Button / Keys used (as mapped in pinballx settings) left - skip back right - skip forward page/nudge left - change playback mode page/nudge right - skip to next in mode, or if in Play All mode toggle shuffle on/off (overriding default shuffle mode in plugin config) instructions - if using visible player (via plugin config) switch in and out of full screen for videos etc. pause in game - pause playback (if you have a pause in game button mapped in pinballx). Press again or skip to next track to resume Any other button / key - exit attract mode (disabling media player navigation until pinballx reenters into attract mode) Navigation button presses are accompanied by either a beep (skip) or a voice detailing current mode or selection. Player Modes Loop All (start) → Artist → Album ↑ ↓ Playlist ← Decade ← Genre During attract mode if the page/nudge left button/key (usually left magna save) is pressed the player mode will be changed as shown in the loop above based on mp3 / wma ID3 tag values, if the current track doesn't have a specific tag for the file then that mode will be unavailbale and the player will skip to the next valid mode. Likewise, if no playlists are found then that mode will skipped. During playback modes other than All the page/nudge right button/key (usually right magna save) can be used to skip to the next value found for that mode, i.e. next artist, next album, next playlist etc. Playlists Playlists for the media player are simple text files, to use them create a MediaPlayerPlayLists folder under \Pinballx\Plugins\ and then create playlist.txt files (the playlist file names can be whatever you want, they just have to be txt files). Add playlist entries to the txt file(s) as file paths, e.g. C:\Pinball Vids\Metallica Pinball from Stern.mp4 C:\Pinball Vids\Kiss Pinball 2015.mp4 etc.. Note that for playlists the location of the files does not have to be under the plugins main media folder they can be anywhere with a valid path. On my system i have the plugin config pointing at C:\Music\ and subfolders, but then use C:\Pinball Vids\ for a video playlist. To create large playlists i'd recommend using FileListCreator to save time, it's free and allows you to easily drag and drop files or folders to build a list which can be copied to clipboard or saved as a playlist. Note, if you do use this tool that you'll need to change the default format, basically uncheck all boxes under the Columns drop downs on the right hand side so the output preview is just file path & name. See also https://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/22325-plugin-pinballx-media-player/?do=findComment&comment=188275 for settings you can just load. Playlists can also be used for lists of internet radio stations - see https://forums.gameex.com/forums/topic/22325-plugin-pinballx-media-player/?do=findComment&comment=218864 Other Stuff No changes to ini file or plugin config in V2 so just copy over V1 if you have that or install as in original notes above. If you have thousands of media files the plugin may slow down pinballx startup when first run as it reads mp3 tag data. To improve this a cache file of media data is created under the plugins folder by the plugin, that file is used on following starts to remove the delay and will be recreated if you add more media files. Notes The plugin was built and tested on Win10, but i have now tested on Win11 and it (and the WMP skin) still works (but you may need to enable Windows Media Player Legacy in windows features) I think i got all the main media formats covered that windows media player can play back, but i may have missed some. If the player doesn't find some of your files (and they work in windows media player) then please let me know. Any issues Please have a look at \Pinballx\Plugins\PBXMediaPlayer_log.txt, if it's something obvious the detail should be in there. If an error has occurred playing a specific file then confirm it can be opened in Windows Media Player (if you can't play a file in WMP then the plugin can't either). Otherwise, please reply attaching your PBXMediaPlayer_log.txt, PBXMediaPlayer.ini, Pinballx.ini & log.txt files as well as the issue description. Thanks To @wrd1972 & @simbamame for help testing the plugin on their systems. Also thanks to @Tom Speirsand @Adultery for pinballx and the plugin template used, and Perry Butler for the excellent mp3 tag reader library i used in Version 2 16/06/2019 Update - Attached Backglass Skin.zip This is a skin for windows media player that is more in keeping with a pinball theme than the default media player. Use of this with the plugin is entirely optional and is intended mainly for users playing audio only files who want track information to be displayed on a backglass screen over the backglass video. More information https://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/22325-plugin-pinballx-media-player/?do=findComment&comment=187793. To install you'll need to unzip the 'Backglass Skin.zip' file and then install the Digir___0.ttf font file (used by the skin) - double click that and then click install. Next step is to install the Windows Media Player (WMP) skin by double clicking the PBX Backglass.wmz file, that should bring up a View Now option which will open WMP and allow you to position the track info on screen by dragging it to position. Close WMP and then select to use a visible player in the plugin via plugin manager. 29/06/2019 Update - Plugin Version 2 attached. Requires PinballX V3.47 or later. Notes updated. Version 1 left as attachment for anyone who doesn't want the new features or for whatever reason doesn't want to update PinballX. See https://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/22325-plugin-pinballx-media-player/?do=findComment&comment=188154 for quick demo. 12/09/2019 Update - Plugin Version 2.1 attached Allows disabling of media navigation keys/buttons via config/ini. Enabled by default. 12/09/2019 Update - Plugin Version 2.1.1 attached Added Pause playback. Changed to .net 4.0. V1 (PinballX versions up to V3.47) PBXMediaPlayer.zip V2 (PinballX versions from V3.47) Backglass Skin.zip PBXMediaPlayerV2_1_1.zip
  3. Wanted to just check if there was a change from some internal engine to the WMP engine in the latest GameEx update? Updated last night and my videos aren't playing. They are Progetto video snaps, and I know they have issues with WMP, but they were working previously so just trying to identify the issue. (Or, similar question - is there a setting that may have changed that would make them not work - maybe a video player toggle of some sort in settings?) Thanks in advance for the insight/help!
  4. I have a 3 screen cab and I just switched to Pinballx. So far I am really happy I switched to this front end. I am currently having one issue. I was trying to use dmd videos, but apparently Pinballx does not allow audio on dmd videos? The videos play fine with audio outside of Pinballx. If I play the videos as a table video the audio works, so this seems like it is a dmd video/audio limitation in Pinballx. I thought it would be cool to have dmd videos with audio playing for each table when looking through tables in the wheel. Can anyone confirm this is or is not currently possible? Maybe this can be considered as a future update? Thanks.
  5. Hey guys, I made a custom high definition startup video for pinball x. Feel free to use it on your cabs. download is in the description on the YouTube video and the winrar pass is : dazzlaa regards.
  7. Hi, I have had PinballX working fine with Visual Pinball 10.3.1 and Pinball FX2. Today I noticed that the VPX ROM videos play fine in pinballX , but the default "No Real DMD" video has stopped playing . I have read through forum posts and cannot figure out what maybe causing it not to not play the video. I have tried to assign videos for the PinballFx2 tables, but none of them play. I am running the following: Windows 10 Pin2DMD (real DMD) which works fine in for PinballFx2 and VPX, just not in PinballX PinballX 2.36 Any help would be appreciated.
  8. Hello everyone, It's hard to find a good back glass for Pinball FX2 so i decided to create them, this is my first contribution. Enjoy, More backglass coming soon, stay tuned. 9. After having issues with the built in PinballX Video DMD not staying on top with certain Visual Pinball tables (For the record this was not PinpallX’s fault but the fault of the tables and Windows 10), we decided to make a quick App (ViDMD) that displays any Windows Media compatible video and keeps it always on top. The App has no borders and can be set to any size with a simple XML change. The location of the App on your monitor (works with multiple monitors) can also be changed along with the local video URL (This will not play a web video). The App is set to loop all videos. This is handy for those like me that use a dual screen setup with the Backglass, DMD, and 2nd DMD with a looping video all on one screen. Version 1.1: Added ability to turn Always On Top on or off Closes when PinballX closes Version 1.0: Ability to change location of App on screen Ability to change size of window Ability to play any local WMP compatible video Always on top Loop videos Planned Future Improvements: Ability to turn loop on or off Download: http://projectnetb.com/index.php/2016/10/12/vidmd-a-free-video-player-for-pincabs/
  10. I searched for a DMD Video for Timeshock! with no luck so I've knocked one up, here it is hope it's useful for Timeshock! fans. Timeshock.mp4
  11. The homepage video is a real attention-grabber! But after you've seen it once, you don't really need to see it again. So, how about turning off the autoplay.
  12. Well it hasn't been thy issue for a long time and we can't rename the thread. Issue was table videos freezing when scrolling. Tables now fine, occurs on backglass. Likely a similar but different issue and cause Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I am running the latest PinballX build on Windows 8. When scrolling through tables, if the executable is not set to run as an administrator, PinballX seems to lose focus and not recognise keyboard or button inputs. I need to alt tab back to get it to respond. I am using b2s backglassed in the front end and I suspect that they are stealing focus when loaded on scrolling to the next table. If I run PinballX as an administrator this issue disappears, but then table preview videos stall when scrolling. A video will play for the first table with a video, then when you scroll forward the next video won't play. Returning to the previous table video, it also no longer plays. I am stumped. Thanks in advance.
  14. Hi there! I decided to upgrade my arcade's video card. Replaced an old nvidia for an ATI card. According to DXDIAG everything's fine, but when I run gameex (that always worked fine before), I get this: DxDiag tells me everything's fine. Using latest video drivers from ATI. If I try to force reinstalling directx (by tricking it to think I have an outdated version), I get an error telling there's another application that is using something from directx and can't be installed. Any idea?
  15. Ok, Please forgive this if this is addressed somewhere else as i think it probably is. I looked for a while in the forums and could not find exactly what i was looking for. I have used GAMEEX for a year or so now and love it! I have 20 or so emulators setup and working. I have in the past setup MAME as an emulator in custom menu options. This has allowed me to have video previews from the main menu selection. If i set it up as " MAME" i am unable to get video previews from the main menu. Of course when i go into the MAME menu i see all the video previews in the sub menus (like ALL Mame Games, etc.). Is there a way to make the videos show in the main menu also? Am i just missing a check box somewhere? Thanks and again sorry if this is already been addressed!
  16. Hi guys, I'm experiencing a weird issue in which my Emumovies video snaps are only playing for some of my emulators. Over the past month I've been setting up a new computer for a home arcade; the MAME, NES, and SNES were set up without a hitch (meaning that video snaps and other assets are being displayed properly). When I started configuring my Gameboy and Gameboy Color assets, I noticed that the video snaps for these two systems will not play in GameEx whatsoever; the other assets have no issues. Even the renamed system intro movies that I placed in the them's LOGO folder won't play for GB and GBC but they will play for MAME, NES, and SNES. Also, my ROM and asset files all share the same filenames. Help! GameEx_ini.txt
  17. Hey guys, Trying to get the .\PinballX\Media\Visual Pinball\DMD Videos to work properly on a 3rd PC monitor. I should be able to drop a video into this directory and have it play on my 3rd monitor, right? TABLE is named "AttachFromMars_FS_B2S" so I have a file there called "AttachFromMars_FS_B2S.mp4". If I drop this mp4 file into the .\PinballX\Media\Visual Pinball\Backglass Videos folder, it works just fine, albeit on my 2nd monitor instead. I have tried ALT-TAB to see if it was running on the 3rd monitor when I have it in the DMD Videos folder, but nothing is running in the background/hidden. I have also tried using the .\PinballX\Media\Visual Pinball\Real DMD Videos folder, and it also does not work. Any suggestions to get this puppy to run on a 3rd monitor? David
  18. Hello, I´m not sure what´s the best way (or maybe just my preferred settings) to include playfield previews in Pinballx . Therefore I would like to know how you handle your playfield previews. 1. What kind of media do you prefer (Images / Videos)? ...and why? (e.g. performance, optics, storage...) 2. If you use Videos: 2.1 Do you use Videos with integrated Sound? 2.2 Do you use Videos without Sound? 3. Do you integrate Sound to your "Images" / "Videos without sounds" via separated Audio files? I´m asking, because normally I would prefer to use Videos with included Audio. But there are table where such files are not available. So I went for the solution to add just for those Videos separated Audio files. But I´ve encountered that if PinballX is starting at a table where I did so, the Opening Audio file of PinballX will be delayed until the separated Audio file of that specific table has ended or until I switch to another table with integrated Audio. (I think if the Video uses integrated Audio the different Audio files may be overlayed while different separated Audio files can´t). But on the other side I´ve encountered another effect: While for Videos with integrated Sound the Sound stops as soon as I start one of those tables... Those tables with separated Sound files play their Sound even during the Loading Screen of PinballX. So currently I´m not really sure what is my preferred solution (and I don´t like mixing solutions anyway)... How do you do your setup regarding the preview Videos? Many thanks in advance for your suggestions! Kind regards, Jannek
  19. Long post alert.... I've been hanging around the group commenting now and again since I started building my cab about six months ago. It's now mechanically complete and running three versions of VP, Future Pinball, Mame, FX2 and PBA. I've put in all the lights and hardware for force feedback and so on through a Ledwiz setup but I've not implemented this yet as I wanted the video running as smoothly as possible. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I've tried just about every combo of Nvdia settings, Video settings per program and compatibility settings per program too no matter how much I changed this around (and we are talking about three months of tinkering) I could not get the ball flow in VP and FP as smooth as I really wanted......until this weekend. I'm running a three screen cab set up with a i3-4150 at stock, the DMD and backglass displays are handled by the Intel chip in my mobo and the main card a GTX560GT is handling the main screen, there 4Gb of very fast RAM and SSD's to hold the data. I have everything switched off in Windows 7 x64 so it only has to worry about pinball. Most of the wisdom on the site talks about disabling compatibility mode and there are several guide which indicate that this should be done in the individual program settings, I've found that on my set up this causes micro stuttering. If you are suffering with the issue try the following: - Back up your current settings first (always do this), the easy way is simply to use the snipping tool to grab snapshots of the various pages below - Set your Nvidea settings to stock, then change max pre-rendered frames to '1', ensure that triple buffering is 'on' and leave vsync to 'use program settings' - Enable Vsync in all VP and FP programs, in VP programs where available put '1' in the vsync and max pre rendered frames boxes . Then make sure that these programs compatibility settings do not have 'disable desktop composition' checked (you just need 'run as admin' and the correct 'run this program in compatabilty mode for....' selected) by right clicking their exe files. - Right click 'My PC', click 'Advanced System Settings', click the 'settings' button under the Performance section uncheck everything other than 'Enable Desktop Composition Mode' and 'Use Visual Styles on Windows and Buttons', apply changes close the window then open it again and uncheck any settings that have rechecked themselves (there are usually two) to ensure that only the two settings above are all that is checked. - (Optional) open the Service program by typing 'services.msc' in the run box under the Start menu and stop the 'Themes' and 'Desktop' entries then change their start properties to 'manual' - Reboot and give things a try On my set up this has resulted in nice smooth gameplay in FP, VP 921,991 & P5, PBA, FX2 and Mame (although the last three were never an issue). I'd like to stress that this is my set up only however I have built test tables in the programs, run frame rate lag analysis with help from the tech team at Microsoft where I work (note here: frame rates shown in the programs are not a measure of smooth video performance). Please note that this may mess up the older versions of VP - particularly VP8 in which case you will need to tick the 'disable desktop composition' settings in those programs compatibility settings. This is the first post where I've tried to give advice and I hope that it helps someone, I've had tons of assistance from the folk here so I hope this may pay a little of that guidance back.
  20. For the FX2 in Pinballx I have still Images they stay up on the backglass the whole time you play the game.. If I use a video for the back glass it goes blank when you go into the game... Is there a way to keep the video playing during the game
  21. Hey all, Awhile back I changed my MAME video setting to stretch the bezels and fill my entire screen. I use a 32" LCD TV in my cab and before I did this I always had the annoying black bars on the sides. I found settings on a link and was able to accomplish this. However, it's an unfortunate compromise due to the fact that I can now only see about 20% of the artwork for the bezel. I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge on a patch or settings that would make the bezel fill the outer area of the screen? Is there a way I could create my own bezel with a specific resolution that may fill the entire screen? I like the way it is if that's the only option. The playing area is not stretched or distorted, just the bezel seems to almost be maximized. It would be awesome to see the entire piece of artwork though.
  22. So ive basically stripped down the functions of gameex, for my friends cabinet, as im trying to remove as many variable as i can from the machine not working properly. Dvds seem to not play, or play properly, so ive discarded all the dvd playback and ripping features. The only one ive decided to keep is the youtube feature. But when i go to the youtube app in gameex, it only gives me options to view "most popular" and "most recent" videos and such, which are the same handful of videos that never change. When i go to search, and search a term, it acts as a gameex search and just brings up roms within gameex matching whatever i type. So, is the youtube app in gameex actually a fully functioning, youtube app where i can search and watch whatever i want? Or am i missing something. Thanks for the help
  23. Hey guys! On what appears to be near the end of the setup so I can play some games! Have two quick questions: Question 1: Bought an Emumovies account, for some reason GameEX will only download some of the gameplay movies. Any ideas as to why? Typically the first few of the day I scan over that don't have them. Question 2: What theme would be easiest to read on a CRT screen? I have tried the 640x480 and its ROUGH on the eyes, and nearly impossible to read. Can't afford any "fancy" monitors yet Thanks for the help guys!
  24. Hi to all, I've formatted my pc and reinstalled GameEx with all my emulators. There is a weird thing that happens... Some games in Mame emulator, show their snap and video previews for a very brief instant and then they disappear. I've installed any sort of codec, 32 and 64 bit. However the games run correctly. I've checked in my snap an video folders for verifying if the files of "corrupted" games are in same way different from the other, but i don't see any difference. Before the formatting all worked fine... (or almost). Is it a known problem? GameEx.ini log.txt
