Sorry I just went to Advanced Configuration > Input Settings > Enable Custom Joystick Controls > Edit and then it crashed on me. So I found custominput.ini but what do I change ? and what is the number code for the A button on an xbox game pad ? is there a util that tells me the codes? thanks
-
ok so i was way way off - glad you got it sorted - but it was weird I was experiencing a similar problem but because of xpadder keys - i'd select GTA and Dogs Life would run. It was just based on what keys I mapped that alphabetically selected games. lol nothing to do with your issue at all....
-
Thanks so much Dazzle, I really appreciate you taking the time to make some screenshots and the step by step!! I am using the xpadder plugin, but it crashed on me when I went into configure so Im not sure i was using it right. I was just running xpadder before gameex andthats probably why the menus were messed up. I also didnt do step 5 before. If I do that, will I need to set this up (create a xpadder profile) for every PS2 game I'm using? Will mapping to keys slow down any latency or anything for rhythm games etc? Thanks though, I will try this and let you know how it goes.... I'm playing GTA San Andreas at 4x res - I'd forgotten how funny this game was - nice to play my old disc on my computer looking better than it ever did in composite video on the real ps2. And I dont mind using cheat codes when I'm not playing anyone- it opens up a whole new world of mayhem in this game (dont think game genies exist for ps2?) But i think i recall a device I had for an old Sega game gear or something which was an adapter between the device and the cartridge...

Where in gameex can I set the default gamepad button for Select and Back in the interface? At the moment by default gameex uses the topmost right button (Y on an xbox 360 gamepad, or triangle on ps2 controller) for back and leftmost button (B on xbox, O on ps2 controller). I'd like to change my default Select in the gameex UI to A on xbox (or X on ps2) instead as is typical for most console games. I just cant find where to set this default in the config tool. thanks
-
I just experienced this too, but in my case it was because I was trying to use xpadder to map my gamepad to certaib keys for adding cheat codes. Are you using Xpadder ? Does your game choice work if you directly use your mouse to click the game?
-
hey thanks for the help - but can you clarify a bit? I thnik I tried what you said but I'm not having any luck. I was also getting keys interfering with GameEx's interface when scrolling through the menu the letters jump to different games when xpadder is on with this test of what i think you said. Is there a way to do it without mapping to keyboard keys? Like can I just make it so holding down select runs R1 R2 L1 X Left Down Right Up Left Down Right Up ? Or are you saying I have to map R1 to some keyboard key etc then use those keyboard keys in the Advanced Xpadder section? becuase then those keys intefere with gameex and pcsx2 and the macro doesnt work in game despite the keys (related to the buttons) showing up in notepad when I test it there. thanks for any help
-
I will preface this by the following disclaimer: I'm not 12 and have little patience when pulling a Frank Underwood and unwinding after a long day at work - meaning,I'm not ashamed to admit I rely on cheat codes every now and then to enjoy a game to its fullest. I'm using (mostly) Xbox 360 wireless controllers for my emu GameEx setup. So lets say I'm a bit tired after work and have 3 helicopters, 30 cops and 5 cars chasing me down and I accidentally set myself on fire with a molotov cocktail, which kills my armor and leaves me with a sliver of a bar of health to get out of there. So it's times like that when I could use a hand getting the timing right to quickly enter R1,R2,L1,X,L,D,R,U,L,D,R,U. Is there a way I can program my select button to be such a macro - that would enter those gamepad button presses for me (something preferably with the ability to tweak timing of the button presses)?? Such a utility must exist - right? I bought Xpadder- but just use that to play keyboard only dos games on my controller and assume it cant do that....? Do any of you guys rely on cheat codes? thanks for any ideas... P.S. This is a great idea for a GameEx feature - store cheat codes with each game and some how throw a heads up overlay onto any emu that lets you pick a named cheat code from your game pad into the game. Probably impossible to develop, but a guy can dream though...

thanks for the xpadder tip everyone - I'm currently using the JoyIDs utility (so I can get 8 xbox wireless controllers working with Saturn Bomberman) will Xpadder conflict with that? or with the Logiech software as I also have 2 more wireless F170 gamepads in the mix too. I'm hesitant to try anything else as I dont want to break anything that took awhile to set up...? thanks celly - this is a bit of a bummer since I'm running GameEx on an htpc and the only keyboard on the couch I'm using is this one: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdetails/57Y6678/460/4C2830F486C64CF7A8A1E619AB6729AA and though it's ok to type in a forum with, it's not very good to play duke nukem with i was hoping D-Fend Reloaded had something like other emus have which let you save gamepad profiles by pressing keys on the pad and assigning them with a GUI interface - guess it will be a slow setup to get everything going for dosbox...
-
i started using D-Fend Reloaded as a front end to DOSbox , but I'm having trouble getting the joysticks to work and map to keys to play the dos games. I'm using wireless xbox controllers that work with all my other emus - is there a trick to getting D-Fend/DOSbox to recognize them?
-
Thanks! I'll have a play with it, hopefully its command line is straightforward
-
Thanks - looking forward to the rewrite - I'd even pay for an upgrade for that

hey peeps Unfortunately Ive been too busy over the past few months to post here - let alone play games on the awesome Gamex- but I'm back and trust youve all been well Coupla questions since Ive been out of the loop: 1) Cant recall where in GameEx to find the current version and wondered what the latest update includes (I zip up the installed GameEx folder as backup in case anything breaks on update - that works right?)? 2) Are there any better new themes? lean 1080 sized ones with big screenshots? I tried to build one once and although I am more than comfortable with the photoshop, i found theme generation confusing and tedious - is it any easier now? 3) Anyone using GameEx to launch old DOS games? I had a search here but couldnt find how to set things up. Any hints? thanks! and its good to be back

[GUIDE] Using Custom Menus
snarls replied to DazzleHP's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Thank you DazzleHP! I've wanted to use this feature and figured it was easy, but it wasn't clear how to set them up from the interface. Appreciate the effort to explain it. -
That's a bummer. I just found out (now that I have my new kick ass gfx card) that Dolphin running at super highres works and looks awesome for Gamecube Super Mario Sunshine, but playing Alien Hominid at those high res settings gets a black screen with only audio working. This would be useful for these cases. Keep us posted if you find anything out...

in case it matters to anyone i got my AMD phenom II x4 965 3.4Ghz and it is speedy to run pcsx2 at native but adding the geforce 660 ti means i can now play all PS2 games at 4x Native res!! GTA San Andreas looks way & plays way better than on the original console... Emulators are so cool

Hi I'm just trying to setup an emulator for an old Mac SE and it's pretty basic, but maybe someone can read this and see what I'm doing wrong. I made a GlovePie script for each diskimage I'm trying to load to allow xbox gamepad to control the mac emu keys & mouse. I'm testing the old game DarkCastle. For some reason I just get a black screen. Then if I kill the HideOS - Glovepie is running and the xbox gamepad script works- but the emu doesn't run until i click the desktop? It's almost as if the LaunchBefore is paused? Ideally I'd also like this to send a ctrl-F to fullscreen the emu, as well as make the esc key send a CTRL+Q+Y which quits the emu. Also I dont know how to get Mini vMac to launch the app on the loaded image- it loads the disk into the mac emu but then i have to open the folder and double click on the application. Does anyone have any experience with this or other computer emus that might help? thanks GameWx.ini snippet [Emulator_19] Enabled=True STARTPAGENAME=15. Thanks for the tips guys! Originally I got this box a few years ago as a good HD video playback & DVB-T htpc so gaming wasnt that much a concern, and I chose AMD for that & spent more on the case which had remote controls and a mini LCD. Looks like the fastest cpu my ASUS motherboard can take is a quad core 3.6Ghz or a 6-core 3.3 Ghz- but all of those are crazy expensive and I'm not going to spend that dough unless I replace the whole thing- which I'm happy to, but this works pretty damn well 24/7 for 90% of what I use that box for. I got that X4 3.4Ghz for $75 new w fan/sink so I hoped it would be a noticeable bump from the trip core 2.4Ghz. Good to know these emus like clock speed - but don't think I'll get into overclocking as that sounds like it could be a time sink getting it stable and cool (I'm gonna use the stock AMD fan) and I don't wanna worry about voltages and thermal paste - it all sounds so time consuming - and this htpc box is on 24/7 so prob better keep it cool and quiet... I'll worry about the GPU later after I test this I guess.
-
Don't mean to hijack, but do you guys think an AMD quad core 3.4Ghz cpu will be noticeably faster for emus like Dolphin & PCSX2? Or does it all boil down to GPU? and if so a Geforce 660 Ti will kill that onboard ATI 3200 HD - right? Just trying not to buy the gfx card unless have to- still waiting on the cpu to arrive...
-
Yeah I was blown away at how well that emu works and how easy it is to setup. I just used the freeware Imgburn and ripped some of my old PS2 games to isos (though it also played the discs fine) and it was good to go!
-
I'm running Dolphin smoothly - all the Gamecube games work fine (gotta love Super Mario Sunshine). The only Wii game I've tried is Super Mario Kart which works fine mostly and is certainly playable but might be a couple fps short. I run dolphin at 1280x720 currently. my htpc is: AMD Phenom Triple Core 8750 2.41Ghz 4Gb RAM ASUS M3A78-PRO motherboard w/on-board ATI Radeon 3200 HD w/HDMI Win 7 64bit My PCSX2 PS2 games barely are playable at Native res- but things like GTA San Andreas look awesome at 4X res even without AA turned on - but like 5fps when set like that. So I just bought a very cheap AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 Ghz CPU chip off amazon and hope that helps when it arrives. If not I might buy a MSI Geforce 660 Ti card to giveit some 3D grunt and let me play all the games at 1920x1080. Think that'll work? It's really just the PS2 games that need a boost. Dreamcast & PS1 work fine w my current setup. Can't wait to play We Love Katamari in ultra high-res

Feature & Enhancement Requests
snarls replied to Tom Speirs's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Personally, I don't use GameEx as a multimedia player in Win 7 Media Center, I have been using the MediaBrowser plugin (which is excellent) before I ended up buying GameEx and really have no interest in those features or the karaoke. I love the core of GameEx which is gaming and a launchpad - so given that, I may not be the best person to comment on this so take it with a grain of salt, and hopefully you don't mind other feedback here... To me Coverflow is a gimmick and not eminently usable at all -whether for games or media files. It was catchy when Apple first introduced artwork to the ipod, but loading issues and the "3D" skewing of artwork just makes the user experience crappy to me, and many coverflow implementations don't have proper physics which further impair the usabilty. So my two cents is if there are other features more key to the core functions of gameex that get sidelined in development for a coverflow view, I'd suggest that may not be the best idea. MediaBrowser has coverflow views (which may look snazzy but I never use them), and on my htpc I find a grid or list to work much better from the couch. I feel the same about 3D carousel pickers etc. They put too much screenspace and emphasis on the currently selected item and hamper the scanning of large numbers of items to help you find the one you want. Hope you don't mind my feedback... -
I may be biased - but Saturn Bomberman is the best multiplayer game bar none. It's the best version of Bomberman and has fantastic gameplay which is easy to get, but the more you play, the more subtle techniques become game changers - along with excellent powerups and letting people who die still help skew the game with revenge on remaining players in the round, means no one gets bored. It really is good for 2 to10 players. Some others (non-sports) that pop to mind: Bishi Bashi PS1 Devil Dice PS1 Bombastic (devil dice 2) but it's on PS2 Gauntlet Wii Mario Kart - prob won't work if yr PS2 emu doesn't perform well umm that's all the4 player non-sports non-quiz I can think of at the moment - sorry none of these are beat'em ups - just read that part...

lol nothing to apologize for. I just didnt get it - i'm a bit slow maybe

Feature & Enhancement Requests

yes. this. I was originally wanting to have the emulator names more subdued next to the console names, like: Sega Dreamcast (Ootake) so deisgns can be nicer, but maybe we just need some kind of info or tooltip for those issues?
